According to a Nate tweet made today he's only aware of a Switch 1 version of Prime 4.
Whoa, hold on, I think we've all been burying the lede here because this is huge.

Many people were confident that Metroid Prime 4 would be, at least, crossgen, and have jumped to the conclusion after today's Switch 2 news that it won't release until 2025 as a result. But this could indicate that it could still release this year, if I'm not mistaken?

That alone would make 2024 not the dire year for the Switch that people are predicting.

I think many people were convinced Metroid Prime 4 would be cross-gen after it missed the September direct, but it could also be that revealing and releasing in 2024 was the plan all along.

We aren't getting a February general direct, but we shouldn't write off the entire year just yet. If Prime 4 is only releasing on the current switch, it could easily be re-revealed in June and release in the fall.

The Process is pogged up. Everything will work out in the end, regardless of what hardware MP4 ends up on. Trust Retro Studios. Trust The Process.

not a big deal considering he also doesn't know any first party switch 2 games outside speculation

I just searched how many times I've said "it's Retro making it" or something along those lines. It was a lot. Gonna save myself some time in the future with this

If Prime 4 was even close to release without being held back for Switch 2, it would have been shown over TTYD HD.

TTYD HD was a pretty weird announcement immediately before SMRPG HD.
Also nate's not the best when it comes to software rumors as seen this week with the Xbox stuff and backtracking what games were no longer Xbox exclusive

Ok I’ve got it.

Nintendo has a big presentation in June. Here they reveal the first gameplay of Metroid Prime 4, releasing exclusively on Switch 1 as the big holiday 2024 game.

At the end of the presentation, they give an extensive look at the Switch 2 and confirm full backwards compatibility.

Thus (hopefully) not interfering too much with sales, allowing a new 3D Mario to be the big Switch 2 launch title in 2025. I assume if Mario and Metroid launched on the Switch 2, the majority would pick Mario.

I still really think the worst sign for the Switch’s 2024 lineup was that TTYD was their One More Thing.

Just not a game that needs a long promotional time and a game that could distract away from SMRPG and not a huge title.

So it makes me skeptical of Prime 4 in 2024.

That would handicap the switch 1 versions sales pretty hard

Depends how long they wait in between releases. Metroid games usually sell well up front and then drop off a cliff. If they time it right I think both versions could do pretty well. Especially if there is additional content to go along with the upgraded Switch 2 version.

unless it's 5 years apart new content exclusive to the Switch 2 version would be a massive slap to the face to those who bought the Switch 1 version

it's the partner direct next week that's killing the idea that Nintendo has anything Major planned for this year outside Pokemon maybe

Prime 4 would obviously be GotY in all our hearts, but stuff like Rebirth, or Process willing, Silksong, could possibly claim it at the Keighley's. Plus, there are always games that come out of nowhere and are extremely impactful.

Not saying it would be exclusive. Just that it'd be more attractive to get on Switch 2 once it is released. Plus, suckers like me would double dip in a second.

Maybe the Metroid marketing blowout (regardless of when it happens) that Grubb heard about is a situation like Breath of the Wild, where during June Nintendo will only show off Metroid Prime 4 alongside a few ‘smaller’ titles like Luigi’s Mansion and TTYD if it’s not out yet.

Metroid Dread was a summer reveal, with a 4 month leadup to release. There's nothing preventing Prime 4 from being a similar story.

I don't think Nintendo want to bring back the game into the spotlight until they're absolutely certain they can hype people up with a short release cycle. What would be the point of having it in the last major Direct if the game was over a year away after all? It'd just mean more waiting.

I hope we get some cool unlocks. I wanted the Dread Suit in Prime Remastered, but no luck there, so hopefully it'll be in MP4.

Could do something like Horizon Forbidden West, where the base game is on both last gen and next gen, but the DLC expansion is only on next gen.

It was only Starfield. The rest of what I said happened exactly as I described.

And being aware of only a Switch version of Prime 4 doesn't mean there isn't some other version.

Any thoughts on how a potential hardware delay would or wouldn't affect Prime 4?

Would be cool if Dread (or Metroid 6 👀) has save file connectivity with Prime 4 for unlocks. Dread Suit, playable Fusion, etc

Or it’s a Metroid Direct that will also announce Metroid Prime 2 + 3 pack and Samus Returns port

Nintendo postponed the Switch 2 just to let us fully enjoy Prime 2 HD in May, Prime 3 HD in August and Prime 4 in November

2024 will be remembered forever as the year of Metroid

If it takes a 2025 2witch to finally get a Metroid Direct then fair trade imo
Honestly, best timeline.

Let Prime 4 have the spotlight all to itself this year..

Dunno how much of a chance for GOTY conversations it has, it could probably hold its against Star Wars Outlaws and Dragon's Dogma 2.
FF7R, Stalker 2 , Hades 2 and Elden RIng DLC weem to be harder opponents

Don't curse the process, because of the forbidden knowledge.
The forbidden knowledge being that the 307th prime number is 2027.

edit: aw shit the 306th is 2017 when the games was announced.
Don't you put that evil on us, AllEsche. Don't you put that evil on us.

At this point I am honestly unsure of what is the better option for Prime 4.

Save it until 2025 to be a Switch 2 launch title, or release it this year as the big game?

As much as I want to see/play it yesterday, I also want it to get the chance it deserves.

If they want it to be a tent pole franchise they've got to treat it as such, market the ever loving fuck out of it. This is the game of the year, buy it or else.
Unless it's the sole first party single player game on launch, the 2witch won't do much if anything to boost sales.
