Pre-Release Metroid Prime 4: Pre-Release Discussion Thread

Where/when was 2 not just echoes?
Japanese release.

I'm hoping gimmick will be timetravel like Tanabe said all those years back! If so, Generations, Continuance, or Chronology would fit.

Huh, the more you know. Wonder why they felt the need to add that?
Cultural differences I guess, even if it's just in what sounds "cool".

The Persona rereleases are actually called Persona 4 The Golden and Persona 5 The Royal there.
They think "The" makes it sound cooler while over here it just feels grammatically incorrect or weird.

Ehh, they're one of the 6 teams with a chance to win the title this year and will probably make a big trade to get better soon.

The entire idea was to just select the highest rated prospect possible at each pick and 4/5 of those guys failed was the issue (Embiid was a massive success, but Noel, Okafor, Simmons, and Fultz were busts) whereas you would generally expect 2 or 3 of those guys to turn out.

But yes, sometimes the process doesn't lead to the results you would expect historically. Fultz and Simmons were...... really weird busts.
Not to derail but don't they have a chance every year? They're the Dallas Cowboys of the NBA, and I say that as a Philly fan.
They’re never gonna win with Embiid as their best player as he collapses every year in the playoffs.
Maybe not this year, as long as he stays healthy. I have way more faith in Nick Nurse than I ever did in Doc Rivers.

Getting back to Metroid, we all need to trust the process. Doc Rivers is Bandai Namco, Nick Nurse is Retro. Let Retro do their thing, and the results will come.* Salvation is soon, my Fami friends.

*come back to me in June

As a kid I really wanted Metroid Prime 3 to have the subtitle "Refractions" before it was revealed. I even drew up a design doc for the possible "Refractions Visor" the game would feature. So let's do that this time, lol

First it was Metroid Prime, then Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, followed by Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. I think I have it:

Metroid Prime 4: Arcana

The namesake sells itself with mystery, allure, and full of lore; exactly the kind of franchise Metroid is.

Hypothetically speaking, if Metroid Prime 4 is released in 2025, the distance between its announcement and release will be the same as the distance between Super Metroid and Metroid Prime/Fusion.

With the recent rumors, I'm wondering how a potential switch 2 release in 2025 impacts Prime 4's release.

On one hand, heavy speculation, and maybe even common sense points toward this game being cross gen. If that theory is correct, then we might be waiting a few extra months after 2024 ends to play Metroid Prime 4.

On the other hand, I don't recall any official reporting or even rumors that said Nintendo was taking this approach. It's just been "they're probably doing this because it makes sense" - in other words, complete speculation.

If a cross-gen release in March 2025 results in better sales, I think it would be worthwhile to wait. I unfortunately think they have missed the best window to release it on switch 1 only. But if there was never a switch 2 version of Metroid Prime 4 to begin with, it will probably release later this year. I know most people don't want to believe that, but I'm just saying it's possible. We don't have enough information to definitively say one way or the other.

It's been a weird day. I guess we should be prepared for anything at this point.

According to a Nate tweet made today he's only aware of a Switch 1 version of Prime 4.

I think it was always going to be positioned as Switch's major sunsetting title after Retro picked it up, it makes sense to release it to the biggest install base possible since Metroid is no system seller. An October release like Metroid Dread seems believable, guessing Switch 2 would've launched in November originally with that kind of plan.

I really struggle with the idea that Prime 4 will be a cross gen title. Unlike the two cross gen Zelda titles the Power difference between Switch 1 & 2 is likely going to be massive as opposed to the the GC/Wii and WiiU/Switch power gap.

I suppose it’s possible that the Switch 1 version could be native res and 60fps and the Switch 2 version exactly the same but 4K, but It would still be underwhelming graphically compared to the other Switch 2 launch tiles so I doubt this would happen, or Prime 4 could be pushing the Switch 2 hard which would mean the og Switch gets a Blurry/low fps game that looks and performs much worst than Prime Remaster did. I think there’s zero chance that this would happen.

Im still hoping that Prime 4 is going to be the Switch’s last great game before the Switch 2 is out.

i doubt it since brazil aslo said that he heard that with the S2 delay Nintendo has no game we (famiboards) would consider major this year

There's no shortage of famiboards members who will bend over backwards to remind you Metroid isn't a system seller/sales giant etc. Depends on his definition of major I guess.
