StarTopic The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |ST| Linkin' Parts (Please Tag All Spoilers)

I just like the vibes of the Sky in Skyward Sword a lot better. Skyloft is the better opening area and is a better town than anything in BOTW/TOTK. Flying around on the Loftwings is super fun. The Sky in TOTK is just kinda boring to me, outside of the Temples.
the Great Sky Island is literally bigger than the entire Sky in SS

I'm trying to remain as limited on spoilers and others' inventiveness as I possibly can, but sometimes I'm watching my wife or my friend play and we all learn something insane together and it's INCREDIBLE! 😂

After thirty hours in I feel like I've barely scratched the surface, I really need to complete at least one phenomena but I just keep getting sidetracked doing a MILLION other cool activities 😆 I can't believe I'd ever say it, but I see zero reason to play Breath of the Wild again- after Muddle Budds, Puffshrooms, Dazzlefruit, the sky areas, the Nausicaa dead forest depths, and the Fuse Arrow ability, I'll never go back. I had no idea Tears would make me say that, but it's true- it's truly an 11/10.

I can't get over how alive every single inch of the map feels, and how much there is to help NPCs with! :)

BOTW had some of my favorite sunsets and it continues in TotK. I love standing on the sky islands as the sun begins to set over the horizon. You really get a sense that you're alone and far away from the rest of the world below.
The oranges and varying shades are absolutely GORGEOUS from the sky view, just unbelievable every time I get to see one up there.

YES

It really hits when you're reeeeeeally high up too.
Honestly from BOTW to TOTK they really nailed how the game looks at sunset, sunrise, daytime raining and late night with a full moon. Beautiful game.

Reminds me of a streamer doing a blind playthrough of BotW and he literally shed a couple of tears watching the sunset. It and TotK really are beautiful games. I’m honestly more enamored with TotK’s look than GoW:Ragnarok which I’d played before it.

Y’know I like all the random little things you can do that aren’t really tied to sidequests or shrines or anything. Like bringing a picture of Mattison running around in Gerudo Town to her mom. No rupees nor rewards, just relief for Rhondson’s anxiety. And it’s heartwarming.

On the funny side of the spectrum I love that after you finish (sidequest spoilers) the stable quest with the Zonai survey team in underpants , you can randomly meet other survey team members having a laugh at those poor saps. “I’m glad you opened their eyes… to the naked truth” says this lass called Bissi as she tried to stop herself from giggling.

Had a VERY productive day in TOTK today. Completed the overworld/sky map, found the rest of the memories, did like ten shines, found a bunch of Koroks, did a labyrinth, and...

Both Hyrule Castle and the Spirit Temple! God I love the mech!

Hit 105 hours yesterday. 100 shrines, 49 light roots, 3 regional phenomenon, a bunch of side quests. Gradually trying to decide what things I'll leave undone before wrapping up the story, but also I don't think I can put the game down and sort of want to do as much as possible before I roll credits...

Man, yesterday, i prolly had the best "fight" situation in this game yet.

Without spoilers: I just basically fought "smarter", not harder.

With spoilers:
It was that one quest in Akkala from the nothern stable, where you have to deal with 3 pirate ships for the stable lady.

Somewhat similar to Lurelin Village, but more focused since the monsters are only on the ships. I did that last week and left with pretty serious losses in terms of equipment (weapons, shields, bows and arrows).

So this time, i thought to myself "Nah, let's not brute force this one too, i don't wanna lose so much stuff again!".
I ended up using items a lot. First, the strongest and intended "boss" monsters of each ship each ate an arrow with Muddle Buds on them.
So the ground monsters basically started fighting each other.
I used that moments to glide up and use the bullet time to deal with the flying monsters and went up to the ships poles again.
Then i waited until the monsters killed each other and for the survivors to start throwing their stuff at me since they can't reach me up there.
What followed were a couple of moments of "Lemme rewind your thrown weapon, eat your own attack".
And the two that survived this had the honor to face me in Trial by Melee Combat.
Not.
I threw Puffshrooms at them and abused the backstab attack.

Results: No lost weapon, no lost shield, no lost bow. Just a couple of arrows and a few easily farmable items.

After that, i did a couple of quest in Akkala and some depths stuff. Dunno if i just didn't notice it yet in other regions, but in Akkala the vertical gameplay across all three layers, as in, do stuff in one, find stuff in one of the others while doing that, do the stuff from the other and find and seamlessly dive into that stuff again, is sublime.

To be honest, i was a bit unmotivated yesterday to play TotK. Mainly due to being tired as fuck and the heat over here, but when finishing up yesterdays session, i was all hyped up again.

I have to say it ... it's simply an achievement for a game being able to do this.

(Dungeon spoiler) Mineru is making a solid case for being my favorite Sage ability. Sticking stuff onto the mech and using it to clobber Bokoblins is so fun. I’m also doing Hyrule Castle now, it’s pretty cool how fake Zelda is leading you around!

I absolutely love bombs, muddle buds and puffshrooms in this game. That’s not even getting to all the stuff you can pull with Zonai devices!

For real, sometimes I’m a bit tired from work so I figure I’ll do just one shrine or escort one Korok… but then I get pulled into the world hard again.

Muddle buds are probably my favourite item to stick to arrows, just so much fun to watch the enemies rip each other to shreds :D

I don’t know if anyone has done this yet, but it’s the funniest thing.

If you have the mystic hair, start descending from the sky in a flat star like shape and then very quickly circle your left stick.

Congratulations you have a head banging Link.

TotK passed Mario Kart 8 and is now my second most played game on the Switch at 125h, it's only behind Stardew Valley (160h). I'm pretty sure this is also the longest I've played a single playthrough of a game in my entire life, and I'm not even close to finish (only did two dungeons so far).

Kinda irritating that, because I have an OLED, I can't easily see what my most played games all time are on Switch. I can see what my most played on the OLED are, and I can see the recent play times on my account page, but I do have some idea. Tears of the Kingdom was the quickest to join the 100 hours plus club, but is probably still below a few other games.

The internet just taught me that stakes make different sound depending on how deep they sit in the ground when you hit them.

Yeah we were discussing that a while back, it’s mind boggling how robust the physics engine is.

I'm pretty sure this is also the longest I've played a single playthrough of a game in my entire life
Ditto. I think I’m at 200 hours so far…

So Hyrule Castle was fun! (Area spoilers) Took me a while but I found all the Royal Guard armor pieces, and damn does Link look good in it. Might have to look into upgrading that. It was tons of fun chasing after Zelda, trying to figure out how to get to places. Boss fight isn’t my favorite but it was cool having me and my sage spirits vs the squad of Phantom Ganons. Really fun place, and it’ll be a great place to go back to whenever I want to get some good weapons.

Then reporting back to Purah (after quest spoiler) we have a lengthy discussion about our next step and whoops I already found the fifth sage and the Master Sword. This is the problem with being a silent protagonist, Link, you’re not being properly communicative. Anyway I get the go signal to finally head to the final battle, but first I need to get that final tear and finally explore the Ring Ruins.

I know it kinda defeats the "you can do everything when you want" idea behind BotW and TotK, but i really think it would've been benefitial for TotK if the Dragon Tears weren't all available do to from the moment you arrive on the overworld again.

They should've made it so that only the first one was doable, and after watching the cutscene the sky dragon would appear and shed another tear, unlocking the next one. Basically unlocking and doing them in the right order.

That way, they also could've held back the ones that tell you plot progression stuff, like the Master Sword one for example.

Agreed. Literally pulled up a map from the internet so I don't accidentally spoil myself on the dragon tear stuff. Although if (minor quest spoiler)you just follow the directions of the quest givers and avoid everything that's not near where they've told you they wanna search next, it's not too bad, I guess.

I really enjoyed BOTW great plateau tutorial but this time the opening didn't click that much with me. As someone who really enjoys Twilight Princess slow opening my opinion probably diverges from the majority.

While I have a lot of problems with Skyward Sword linearity the sky was much better imo. This one only have puzzles and almost none interesting islands.

Technically you're right. You kinda can get the right order if you do what the game really urges you to do after the tutorial part.

But as reality shows, that doesn't really work out well enough. ^^

Also, while Impa does hint that the hidden area in the forgotten tempel shows you the right order of the teas, i don't think it's flat out stated.

So you could be a "good person" and follow the games intended ways and still end up getting the wrong order of the tears. ^^

Re: Dragon Tears Honestly an easier solution would be to simply have the cutscenes unlock in order instead of having each story bit tied to specific locations. Not that I have much more to add to that, I didn’t really pay attention to the cutscenes haha

Im trying to complete the 4 main quests soon as im around 100 hours in. Just in the Desert exploring more for my final phenomena and having a great time. Its one of my favorite areas so far, may do some sidequests and more caves before I finish up.

After that idk when Ill complete the game lol as I want to finish some quests in Hateno, Akkala, Lanayru etc

Ok, has anyone destroyed the barriers between a group of bokoblins and a group of Constructs and then just sit back and watch them fight?

I think so far, I've seen the bokoblin camp win 4 out of 4 times, until today, where the construct camp won, so now the score is 4-1 in favor of bokoblin camps.

And of course I swoop in after the fight to beat the survivors and loot everything.

certain people can say what they want but when I see all the youtube videos of the crazy shit people are building....it was probably right for Nintendo to go in this direction

Oh I got to try this lol. I believe there are many areas where they are near the Constructs

Now that’s science! I think I only did this twice, but yeah it’s pretty cool.

Got the final tear, pretty much what I’d expected. Made Zel-dra appear though which also meant I got to nab a horn! Not much attack power but apparently fusing it to a weapon gives it healing properties. Intriguing!

I found Mineru after the second temple, and turns out she’s supposed to be the last sage you recruit. Huh! Thought I was done with the stormy sky island since I already had her, but progressing the Ring Ruins quest eventually results in the storm being cleared away (plus snazzy new clothes), revealing another sizable sky archipelago. I have a good feeling about this place, it’s bound to have a shrine and other goodies.

After nearly 200 hours I went back to figure out that one Goddess statue puzzle and...I completely forgot where the gate was lol.

Totk search for the 96 metascore continues. It seemed that everything was lost but a long streak of 10s brought it back near the 96.

Got the Master Sword and progressed the Lanayru questline. Checked my playtime and it's past 90 hours.
Forgot how to get into Korok Forest on the surface so I ended up coming up through the Depths. Amber Earrings help a lot with taking hits, and I brought out the sage summons for the Gloom Spawn fight, so it wasn't too bad. Funnily enough, when I went after the Light Dragon, she was going past the Skyview Tower in the north, so I pulled the Master Sword while I was above the geoglyph shaped like it. Afterwards I realized I hadn't been back to Great Sky Island since I left it, so I checked out the top of the Temple of Time and tested my Master Sword. Tested out the Master Sword against the Flux Construct up there, who had took a ton of food and arrows to bring down on my first attempt but went down pretty quickly this time. Still don't know where Impa went, I can't find her in Kakariko or Lookout Landing.

Zora quest is definitely neat. Finally figured out what "wind fish island" meant and was able to go through the Waterworks. It's a fun cave for what is, but you do feel the absence of Iron Boots. Saved last night after doing the shrine near what I'm assuming will be the Water Temple.

Also if dragons are immortal where are all these dragon bones coming from? Zelda's been flying around for thousands of years, and you're telling me some random goblins have been making bows with the skeletons of her newfound kin?

Between his poorly constructed signs and the places he’s been assigned to (which includes the middle of nowhere) I’m beginning to think Hudson deliberately gave Addison the very important job of putting up those signs far away from him.

Just look for bodies of water.

The answer to that might be simple enough! Seems like dinosaurs are lumped in with dragons in this world, so dragonbone is actually dinosaur bone

Ok yes please lol

Ok, go to Grinnden Plains which is west of Lake Hylia (a bit south-west but mostly west). There is a large rock which has fallen from the sky that you can climb and at the top you can fire a fire arrow at the barricade which will then burn it, and both camps will see each other and then fight. Coordinates for the rock are, -0809, -2866, 0149 but it's easier to see.

Another spot is right by the flight range, called Dronoc's Pass. Teleport to the nearby tower and head southwest and just land on another large rock that fell from the sky and do the same thing.

Every time I try to use a gacha machine I continue to curse the lack of wraparound menus in the inventory. If they're not going to do that, at least split food from everything else

are you getting out charges from the pause menu or the d-pad menu? from the pause menu it's really quick: sort by type, right stick to flick quickly to the bottom where the charges are, X to go into holding mode, and mash A 5 times

Pause menu. Right stick helps but it won't scroll to the bottom row. Right now I have zonai charges in the bottom right of the 39th row, so I have to right stick scroll down, then left stick scroll down, then left stick scroll to the right. It would be much easier if I could just press up and left from Golden Apples

Main quest line spoilers:

so I realized I completely sequence-breaked the game with the fifth sage/spirit temple by reaching Thunderhead Island early. I didn’t know until after the fact there’s an entire quest line about trying to reach that island and get rid of the storm. Am I still able to retroactively go through the steps to get rid of the storm?

Yes

Got the last Korok two days ago and have been taking a teeny little break from the game since.

I used a map to track them all down, marking them off as I found them. Clicked the last one off and I was still ten short, so had to find a second map and go through my in-game map, comparing it to the second map and marking every. Single. One. all over again.

But it’s done. One thousand korok seeds. Feels simultaneously great and ridiculous lol

The highlight was flying my hover bike over the edge of a cliff to try and find a korok somewhere near the bottom of a ravine, tilting my bike too far forward and Link bailing out, eating shit all the way down the side of the cliff and rag doll cartwheeling into a hollowed-out tree trunk, only for my hover bike to come tumbling into the tree trunk with me and somehow reveal the hidden korok. I have to assume it was one of the ones where you break an acorn to reveal them, and my air traffic accident just happened to do it for me.

There’s never been a shortage of giant creatures/monsters in Hyrule’s past for skeletons to belong to, even in the small glimpses into Hyrule’s past we’re afforded through all the games. Also immortality isn’t the same thing as invincibility.
