It’s equally weird that they resurrected the Infogrames name tooThe fact Atari acquired Intellivision is so mind blowing weird to me
It’s equally weird that they resurrected the Infogrames name too
Don’t remind me. I don’t think it was BHC but something else I saw recently made me realize they’re still not done scraping the barrel of 80’s pop culture for reboots and decades late sequels or spinoffs. Maybe the Ferris Bueller spin-off that was announced a couple months back? You call that weird? There's a trailer for a new Beverly Hills Cop!
Everything comes back.
Just my youth isn't, i stay old.
Every day my hate for this AI-generated crap grows largerit's massively, massively inefficient code — for venture capital dickheads to run for nonsense cash in their little fiefdoms, and arrogant dweebs who won't just fucking draw something for once in their damn life to feel good about themselves — that burns through an unbelievable volume of crucial shit, worsens the climate crisis in a three-pronged attack, and literally kills people
Hey! I've wrote a that is was a really delicious sandwich, not something Furukawa could get for cheap while on the run between meetings!YouTubers today: According to a leak at Famiboards dot com Nintendo is buying checks notes Subway?!
So you're telling me the company that makes umbrellas is bad? What have you done?! You sold Steam to Umbrella Corporation!
So you're telling me the company that makes umbrellas is bad?
Maybe they should've renamed to Umbrellas and death, a lot of death, we're basically only selling death, almost no rain protection Corporation, it would save a lot of people from confusion.Umbrellas ... and ABC weapons.
Solid diversification if you ask me.
They want to turn Steam into a bio-organic weapon! Don't ask me how. They'll find a way.So you're telling me the company that makes umbrellas is bad?

Definitely the other side of the "games are art" coin.do you ever think about the sheer amount of time and human effort that is spent on things that are then yeeted into the ether forever never to be experienced by other humans again
Shoulda posted this in the hardware thread the other day when people were singing the praises of AI and saying those who are against it are ignorant luddites.I am once again begging everyone to remember that generative AI horseshit burns through real resources on earth
and that the "cloud" was named to imply no physical footprint (for marketing) when it's all massive massive data centers, now turning into even more massive data centers
and that early, kind of conservative estimates are that generative AI right now burns through 33x the electricity of a purpose-built function
reminding you also that electricity is a physical resource and nearly all means of getting it cause a degree of pollution or carbon emissions — and the lower instances demand hazardous materials in high volume
(when I told y'all I loved that the Switch was "underpowered," I wasn't joking! but it sure is manufactured, so the footprint is far from negligible...)
AI also burns through freshwater resources — roughly 16oz per every 5 to 50 ChatGPT requests depending on region — with an estimated ten million ChatGPT requests per day right now in the early stage. that's 50,000 gallons a day.
that's just text requests! I don't have data on images, let alone videos, but you can bet your ass they're MASSIVE burns on electricity and water!
so I want you to look at the extreme rate of AI growth, take what we know about it all right now... and then frame that in our current world and climate
where we've had increasing power grid failures that quite literally kill people
where drought is increasing and shitheads are sticking pipelines through the great lakes, one of our biggest reserves of freshwater — while other shitheads are racing to buy control over water sources in the vile-as-fuck "Blue Gold" strategy
where extreme weather, hot and cold, require electric countermeasures and water supply to keep people alive
when we are practically out of time to stop corporations from pouring out greenhouse gasses if we want a future on earth — the planet is resilient, sure, but humanity is comparatively not
AI will fucking kill people. not in the boring-ass base sci-fi way, nah. this isn't "smart" shit. it's massively, massively inefficient code — for venture capital dickheads to run for nonsense cash in their little fiefdoms, and arrogant dweebs who won't just fucking draw something for once in their damn life to feel good about themselves — that burns through an unbelievable volume of crucial shit, worsens the climate crisis in a three-pronged attack, and literally kills people.
and you bet your ass poorer people who don't give a fuck about AI will be dying from this disproportionately, vs. all the rich assholes and armchair whiteboys who will profit from this bullshit.
so my hatred of AI is not just superficial, or limited to all the artists fucked over. it's well-rounded.
Mild chuckle
I'm always saying this.I’m increasingly starting to wonder if maybe all this nostalgia pandering and endless franchises is a pox. That maybe it’s ok for things to die and be left behind so that new things can take their place.

1. CULT OF TRADITION. The old ways are best. The New is not worthwhile.
2. REJECT MODERNISM. The development of Western philosophy post-Enlightenment is seen as a descent into depravity. See also : Reject post-modernism, which is seen as an even greater descent into irrationality.
3. ACTION FOR ACTION'S SAKE. Action is to be taken without reflection or introspection - that's for weaklings and degenerates. Often seen in a derision of "intellectual elites".
4. DISAGREEMENT IS TREASON. Analytical criticism cannot be allowed. A pantomime of discourse may be allowed, but only within the accepted framework and only if reaching the foregone conclusion.
5. FEAR OF DIFFERENCE. Outsiders are your enemy. Those who are different are evil and want to corrupt you and destroy all you hold dear.
6. APPEAL TO A FRUSTRATED MIDDLE CLASS . Capitalizing on genuine frustrations by pointing them toward convenient scapegoats. Real concerns used a recruiting tools.
7. OBSESSION WITH A PLOT. There is a conspiracy run by THEM. You are besieged by THEM. THEY are behind all your ills. THEY are working in the shadows to enslave and destroy you.
8. THE ENEMY IS BOTH STRONG AND WEAK. When rhetorically convenient, THEY are all-powerful. When rhetorically convenient, THEY are feeble, stupid, weak. The rhetorical focus shifts regardless of self-contradiction, because all that matters is positioning the enemy where the speaker's goal requires them to be at any given moment.
9. PACIFISM IS THE ENEMY. LIFE IS ETERNAL WAR. There must always be an enemy to fight. When that enemy is defeated, another must be found. When they cannot be found, they must be created, even from within. There is always the promise of a Final Solution bringing Ultimate Triumph, but it can never be achieved.
10. CONTEMPT FOR THE WEAK. Elitism disguised as populism. Everyone of US is superior to THEM, cockroaches and drains on society that they are. But people are sheep who require strong leaders, who are by their nature superior to others.
11. EVERYONE IS TAUGHT TO BE THE HERO. A CULT OF DEATH. Where in myth the hero is exceptional, in fascism everyone must be the hero. They crave heroic death, the reward for heroic life. In seeking it, they send others to die. (See also: Militarism).
12. MACHISMO. Disdain for women and femininity. Intolerance of non-standard sexuality and gender expression.
13. SELECTIVE POPULISM. The People are viewed as a monolith with a single will, as interpreted (in reality, determined) by the leaders. Democratic institutions are viewed as illegitimate because they run counter to the narrative of the existence of a single Voice Of The People.
14. NEWSPEAK. Vocabulary cannot expand. If anything, it must shrink. Variation and nuance in dialogue means variation and nuance in thought. This cannot be allowed. Therefore categories must be binary. Definitions are simple and limited. If it cannot be boiled down into snappy catchphrase it does not exist.
But imagine how much more impactful it woulda been if a robot absolutely guzzling natural resources had written that instead of a human personThis reminds me: I was playing TLOU Part 2 last night. You know how the characters will shout the names of the people you kill when you discover them to try to beat into your head how senseless the conflict is?
One of the people shouted "DREW" last night and it stopped me right the fuck in my tracks. Absolutely the scariest thing a game has ever done to me.
for absolutely no reason, definitely not due to any relevance, I will now post the fourteen properties of fascism from Umberto Eco's "Ur-Fascism" essay
Eco grew up under Mussolini's rule and distilled the properties of fascist regimes into these tools and strategies. Not every regime has every tenet, but if you recognize any of these... you probably live in a fascist state!
Literally shaking right now.But imagine how much more impactful it woulda been if a robot absolutely guzzling natural resources had written that instead of a human person
