I still don't get the hate for the early One Piece anime. After they caught up with the manga, it's become pretty long-winded, that is true. But the first ~500 episodes are fine.
As someone who is trying to give the anime a chance (I don't have netflix anymore) when you say "first ˜500 episodes" you do not encourage me to keep trying (I've seen the total of 3 episodes so far).

Talking of One Piece, am I making a mistake starting the manga?

In two ways:
Both the "what the fuck" time commitment, and the potential for the anime to be a better experience all around.

Feels like I might be making a mistake.
Having dabbled in both the manga and anime this past year, I would say the manga is the better experience. It's really easy to unwind with one or two chapters a night, and the pacing is such that you always feel like you get something every session. The anime is fun but, ya know, 23 minutes (plus commercials if you don't pay for ad free content) can be a big ask.

Instead of thinking "oh 1 ep down, 900 to go :')" one should think: "oh I enjoyed this episode, I can't believe I wont run out of content I enjoy for quite a while! :D"

It helped me! It's all about which mindset you have when starting a show, it's not a race and you do it for your own entertainment after all!

Speaking of.. i'm probably 100+ episodes behind myself LOL (atleast I'm caught up on the manga so the urge to watch isn't that intense rn)

OP ASIDE,
I've gotten Digimon Survive while it was on sale and am looking forward to playing it!

I don't really dislike the pre-Marineford episodes per se and it's how I watched it initially. But I also started when I was a teen and nowadays I find 500+ episodes a massive time investment. One Pace cuts it down to around half which is still a lot but more manageable.

It's true though that the pacing gets much worse later when they do one episode per chapter.

It's called Famiboards yet it's welcoming

Once it hits Skypeia it just becomes a slog imo. It's fine up through Alabasta if you use a filler guide but after that it just becomes bloated and stretched out, and the manga already has problems telling story arcs succinctly.

I mean, the anime is much more of a "what the fuck" time commitment so on that front the manga is probably smarter. I'm not the best judge on that front though since I much prefer reading to watching stuff - I don't have the patience for even much shorter anime than One Piece is. That being said, it's typically pretty widely agreed that the One Piece manga is a better experience than the anime

As far as starting One Piece in general, absolutely give it a try at least. It's a very fun story and surprisingly consistently high quality given how long it's been running

The manga is better, without a doubt

On top of the animation and pacing eventually going to shit after a while in the anime, there are little side-stories that the anime never bothered to adapt, so you can only get those from the manga. Plus there's no filler to skip.

Oh, Skypeia... that was a slog enough in the manga!

Final fantasy XIV: "You completed this side quest. This person has joined your party and will remain permanently with you until the final main story"

The final main story quest is literally the only story quest remaining. The side quests to get these people permanently in your party only become available when the final story mission becomes available. Square Enix!

Didn’t realize this, but being the OT host is a goldmine of FamiCoins. I bet @xghost777 is going to be the richest member on the forum with the direct thread heating up.
Yeah definitely the OP of the hardware thread has it with their 77,000ish posts in their thread, but I’m certainly raking in the famicoins haha. I only have a small amount in the bank to accrue interest.

You know I still wish they’d do a new Dr Mario using the assets from the defunct mobile game
Hear me out: Dr Mario Trauma Team. Atlus game spinoff with all of the most left field characters that were released in Dr Mario World. I need Dr Nabbit as an otolaryngologist (does it have a mouth? How can it be a throat doctor?), Dr Blooper as radiologist doing contrast studies with the ink, all of the myriad Baby characters as NICU specialists, King Boo and Dry Bowser doing the autopsies in the morgue. Great crossover ideas.

I need this now,

On other news, it's good to see that bamco is actually adding new story episodes to OPW4 and it's not just the characters.

The Shadow Temple is kind of underrated when people talk about best dungeons in Zelda (or even OOT). The sense of dread is palpable, and I love the spooky skulls talking about the blood and greed of Hyrule. Bongo Bongo is kind of a weird boss though, not really that satisfying to take down since you're constantly trying to deal with bouncing around on his... bongo.

Now to the desert

Dammed cashless business!! The worst part is that I actually had the cash since as a tourist you don't have to pay the bank exchange rates / fees but I couldn't use it where I wanted to. Felt like Home when he goes to the Itchy & Scratchy theme park

Manga > One Pace > One Piece

every one piece fan that starts off saying they wont read the manga reads the manga cause the anime just becomes ungodly horrible with one good episode every 50 episodes.

anyway very unrelated but fire flowers in wonder feel entirely pointless, I get they have to be there but can they do something that doesn't want to jus t make me use the bubble flower instead, ig it'll be used as a weak throwaway powerup.

One of Ocarina's greatest achievements honestly is its phenomenal atmosphere.
A combination of its evocative music and ambient sound with its moody visual design creates such a potent sense of place even today. In a way, its early 3D graphics actually help with this as their abstract nature provokes our imagination to fill in the gaps.
As far as vibes go, it's up there with the likes of Metroid Prime, Shadow of the Colossus, or SNES Donkey Kong Country.

As a One Piece fan I'm impressed by the people who stick with the anime. The anime is simultaneously a bigger time investment and has less substance than the manga. Plus in the age of Youtube it's easy to look for clips of the actual good parts of the anime.

Thank you for contributing to our local economy! Sales tax is steep in this area. Hope you had fun.

I'm going back next year, but really it wasn't the sales tax, rather my credit card fees for international payments. It's sucks that I had to pay more because some business won't accept cash

The atmosphere and vibe of the dungeon is excellent, but IMO it's just not really that great of an actual dungeon. I'd probably rank it last among the adult Link dungeons (or maybe 4th, Fire Temple would be the other bottom one). But I heavily favor more puzzle-centric dungeons and the Shadow Temple is definitely more of a combat-gauntlet-style dungeon, so I can see that shifting it around depending on preference

Hm, so I was made aware of me needing an iPad for work going forward. That's fine from my pov, just ... it makes my whole quest looking for a ~ 14" Windows laptop feel redundant. I'll be needing a Pencil Gen 2 and at least a Smart Keyboard Folio as well, so I'm basically getting a slim and light Apple laptop at that point. Right now it looks like it'll be an iPad Air 5 (2022), which means it's really not going to be the largest of devices to work with. But hey, it's small and pretty versatile.
Not sure what I'll do about a Windows laptop now, though. 🤔

I always never understand the idea that Nintendo fan will eat up any slop the company put out without question when in reality we are hardest fanbase to please, if we see 1 small deviation from what we wanted in our crazed headcanon we will cried and bitched endlessly about it and call for the termination of the person making it.

Well, the advantage is, with Oda having reached "Snail on weed" pacing even in the manga, the anime won't need anymore anime-only filler content.

I remembered the thriller bark arc in the anime dragged on so much I have to start reading the manga and resumed watching the anime when they reached sabaody.

Given Germany got the anime dub with ... lots of time in between seasons ... i fell out of the anime after Skypeia. So everything after i read via the manga.

But the current pace of said manga became so bad that i just dropped off halfway in Whole Cake Island.
Honestly, as interesting as everything after Whoile Cake sounds in summaries, i don't think i could've handled the Wano arc running for almost 150 chapters over -> 4 YEARS <-

Sorry Oda, get your shit together.

I'm really looking for smth to play at the moment..

I don't know what it should be. Ideally it's something with strategy, even better if it's turn based. I'm considering Pikmin 4 or Advance Wars 1+2 (but for the second one I'm hoping to get it at a discount).

Recently I've been replaying Into the Breach but I'm good for now, I've already played the Fire Emblem games.
Not really into Pokemon atm.

Anyone has any recommendation? :)

Tactics Ogre.

Speaking of pirates...
This game will never come out, will it?

If you're into (turn based) strategy and like Fire Emblem and Into the Breach, I'd definitely give Advance Wars a try!
