[A Pokemon Presents confirms Detective Pikachu for October 20th, 2023, a new Mystery Dungeon title for January 2024, and details the DLC]
Nintendo Direct: June 2023
We open with...
Splatoon 3 Side Order, launching this August. Looks rad, obviously.
Yoshiaki Koizumi hopes we liked that. It's as close to new 3D Mario as we're getting this year.
First batch of headlines (what would even be here? Weeb shit? Just Dance? Indies that aren't Silksong, resulting in "Where's Silksong?")
New first party title reveal: Rhythm Heaven is back - and harder than ever!
Rhythm Hell launches on Nintendo Switch this December.
Yoshiaki Koizumi passes us over to Shigeru Miyamoto, who begins by reminding us all to buy Pikmin 4. He lets us know a Pikmin 4 Direct will be available to watch shortly after this presentation, but first, he'd like to talk about Super Mario. He thanks everybody who made the Super Mario movie such a success, and knows we'd all like to see what's next for Nintendo's mascot. Please take a look at this:
- Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games: Age of the Cheese-Eating Surrender Monkeys launches on Nintendo Switch, October 6th 2023
- Dr Mario 99 will be available for NSO subscribers on Nintendo Switch... later today!
- Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Super Mario Land, and Mario Paint (somehow) will all join NSO... later today!
- Mario Kart 8 DX Booster Course Pass Wave 5 launches... in July!
Miyamoto thanks us for watching, and says one of those general things about how everyone at Nintendo is working very hard and they all know we like Mario, or whatever. He says he has one more thing to show us:
-
New Super Mario Land. It's got 'New' in the title, but it's not 'New' in aesthetic, music, or world themes; it's
new and wacky, taking its cue from the unconventional settings of the GB games. Hand-drawn visual style. Launches on Nintendo Switch November 17th, 2023.
- Thanks Miyamoto-san; more headlines, including the sneaky return of F ZERO:
F ZERO GX HD, which launches September 1st, 2023.
- 51 Worldwide Classics/51 Clubhouse Games is getting a sequel:
51 Classical Era Games. Play classic games like Ancient Egyptian Senet, the Royal Game of Ur, Nine Men's Morris, Tafl, and Patolli. This is the most expensive game NdCube have ever made, requiring research arrangements with dozens of universities around the world so that Nintendo and NdCube could figure out how the hell the games of the ancient world were actually played. In the end, they made up the rulesets. 51 Classical Era Games launches November 3rd, 2023.
- more headlines, including games people like.
Surprise Eiji Aonuma! He has a few things to share with us, including:
- Ganondorf and Zelda amiibo available at some point in the future
- Tears of the Kingdom DLC:
Wave 1 launches this September and includes Master Mode, which features reworked temples, extra Master level shrines, gold enemies, and some new enemy types: Aeralfos and Armos Constructs join the fray. There'll also be some new overworld bosses: we see Manhandla and Aquamentus. Master Mode also introduces the new Tingle Tuner, which turns the game into a survival horror. The louder the Tuner sounds, the closer Tingle is...
Wave 2, Ballad of Awakening, is teased, with Kass narrating from an archipelago high above the southern seas of Hyrule. The mists clear, and we see... a giant egg on a mountain in the sky?! Wave 2 gets a generic spring 2024 date.
Aonuma thanks us for our patience. He has one more thing he'd like us to see:
- It's 2D-HD! It's turn-based! It's strategy! It's...
Triforce Strategy?! Team Asano and Team Aonuma are collaborating on this Triangle Strategy-inspired Zelda spin off. Balance the Scales of the Goddess, choosing between Wisdom, Power, and Courage as you recruit characters to save the kingdom from civil war. Triforce Strategy launches in 2024.
- Whew! Koizumi is knackered, and thanks us all for watching. Before we go, here's one more thing:
Metroid Prime 4's first proper trailer closes out the presentation! And confirms a launch date of March 22nd, 2024. That's all, folks.
