If you think Pyra and Mythra are bad designs, I can add you to my ignore list.
I'm guilty.

Metacritic wasn't around then so I guess you can use the GBA ports as reference?
No clue. Just saw Jon saying something to that effect in that GVG video. I thought it was neat trivia 90s/90s

wouldn't be the first time I was deceived by(or just misunderstood) a lovable youtuber tho lol

I do wonder why this doesn’t has as many reviews as you would think a Mario game would. Did Nintendo just not send this one out to as many outlets for whatever reason? Or maybe smaller outlets were just too backlogged with all the games coming out these next few weeks.

I have been on radio silence since the Direct. Is there any review you'd recommend that has a lot to say but still stays away from major gameplay spoilers?

listen, that's just his backassward school district lmfao. A 93 is a standard A or A-.
The specifics, sure, but grade inflation in general is standard.

I've graded college-level math in both Australia and the US. In Australia, if you got 85+ that was a High Distinction, the highest grade. The next grade was Distinction, which was 75-84. I would say, on average, that a Distinction student at the Australian student would comfortably get an A (which usually had a lower cutoff of 92-94) at the American university.
This isn't an American thing
It absolutely is (see above)

What the fuck is wrong with America

100-94 A. 93 - 90 B+. 89 - 84 B, etc. No minuses. Counties around here were known for having a stricture grading scale. When applying for colleges, you were given your county GPA and a converted GPA using the more common state grading scale. Growing up, my county was ranked among the top 10 best public school systems (not sure if it's still the case). Granted, it's a really affluent area so having a lot of tax money helps but the county did put a higher percentage of its tax revenue back into the school system compared to other countries in the country so that definitely helped.

only famiboards could springboard mario wonder reviews into an indictment of the insufficient rigor of american education

I love it here I love it here I love it here I love it here

100 to 90 was A in functional districts.

I high school I think 94 was B+ for me.

A: 95-100
B: 88-94
C: 80-87
D: 70-80
F: 0-69

…C-F I don’t remember as well. But I think that was the range. Uni shifted grading to 10 point ranges eg. 90-100 A; 80-90 B; etc.
this feels like some private school shit lmao.

anyways we should get back on topic before a mod yells at us

No real surprise here. Sometimes I think we are our own worst enemy, arguing about silly things like reviewer penalizing game just for being short even if it's not really short in relative to other 2D Marios, etc.

The game is GREAT. The game would have to be that to have earned "Mighty" badge (Mighty = top 10% of all games - the cutoff is 84%)

Public school in Virginia. And yeah we can get back on topic.

Proud of Mario for getting a solid B. :)

In my school district, a 93 would actually be a B+ on our grading scale. Maybe Dring just had a really tough grading system growing up

Lol everyone in my country would have had an F then...

There exist a 'little 6 culture' here. Scoring a rounded up 6 is enough so why would you bother with getting a 9/10? (This is mostly a thing under uni students, but also in highschool

But a 6/10 is no 60% in most score calculation a 5,5/10 is more like getting 50% of the points

Ontopic: Hell yeah time for some Mario! First time playing it together with the BF on friday!

How wild is is that both Insomniac and 2D Mario broke their 80s curse for games releasing on the same day?

Honestly, part of me is just glad they’re close because if one was a lot higher than the other, we’d probably end up having more people be weirdos about it.

Gonna be a great weekend between the two.
It really is an incredible week for video games!

Wtf. I thought the grading system was standardized. I'm from America and even in university it's a pretty standard B is a 80-89, A is a 90-100, etc

I can’t help but respond. You might be right, it’s been quite some time. I do feel like 87/88 was the B/C range tho.

On topic again - this might be the first 2D Mario game I’ve ever beaten. That’s certainly something.

I believe I remember the brackets being:

A: 94-100
B: 84-93
C: 74-83
D: 64-73
F: 63 or lower

That’s really just off the dome, though, and I’m old. But I also schooled in VA!

It needed to be a 2D Zelda

Balance is not restored
I choose to believe the reason we haven’t seen a new 2D Zelda yet is that they’re taking the same approach they did with Wonder to give it as much time and budget as it needs to be something special.

I’ve never heard of a B going into the 90s, that’s wild. 90 was always the cutoff for an A at the highest, and it would usually dip into the 80s.

This does also seem right lol I can’t trust my memory anymore

I actually just polled some others from my graduating high school class. My A-C numbers were correct. D, F are a bit off. Seems it was definitely not standardized at the time. I think since then they've moved closer to the 90-100 A etc.
