Kinda strange about Spider-Man. I'm actually a fan of the series, and i got the CE for the first game on PS4, even platinum'd it ('cause it was easy as heck) ... but didn't even pre-order the new game nor have any intention of getting it down the line.

Yeah. I had fun with the first and should probably play MM, but I got a little irritated with the gated off structure and forced side missions (which if you explored early meant sometimes you would literally just have to swing around waiting for the next story mission to unlock). It also was too samey with each act having their own side missions that were basically repeats. Of course, motion and combat were some of the best for an action game. Haven’t read reviews here but do hope for more set pieces and boss fights as that was the most fun. Probably will get when it inevitably is $20 or on plus.

Janelle Monáe was absolutely amazing and wonderful. It's been amazing to see her go from playing a venue that was not much more than a club to selling out a big theater, with a show that had immaculate production values. And the voice is still killer.

Seriously though, as soon as I saw the sprites casting realtime shadows I was hook, like, and sinker. I've been gushing like crazy about it between the RPG thread and the game's own release thread. It's pretty much the game I've been wanting someone to make for a verrrrrry long time.

Also "RPG salad with my favorite ingredients" is a really good way to put it, that's how I feel about it too!

Another week, another Weekly Question! And boy, what a week we got coming up! Super Mario Bros. Wonder comes out in just a few days! But it's one game in a stacked month. Spider-Man 2 comes out the same day, we got a new 2D Sonic releasing on Tuesday, and lots more before and after them. What's your most anticipated game of the month?

If you have to ask me what my answer to that question is, you clearly don't know me well enough.

Alan Wake 2 is what has me most intrigued, but I still have to eventually start my replay of the first game Every time I tell myself that I'm gonna sit down and start, some BS always comes up.

Gosh, I've never really jumped on any Analogue products - always sell out too quickly, tend to have better solutions for other systems - but I may consider eyeing this. What is arguably just as exciting, though, is the controller. Analogue bundles 8BitDo controllers for their systems, and if you scroll down...

...there's a new, currently unannounced 8BitDo N64 controller.

I get why folks like these analogue FPGA products, but I know they’re not for me at all. They’re expensive, limited, and I would much rather get one of those portable emulator devices like the Retroid Pocket or Ayn Odin.

To me, Analogue devices are like spending a bunch of money on vinyl records, a high end player, amp and speakers. It’s nice if you want it, but I’m okay with Spotify, my phone and AirPods.

Fascinating indeed. I'll hold off on reviews first before I bite the bullet (also because I do have a 99 lbs CRT I only recently lugged up to the top of my condo building lol), but if it ends up being the most practical way to play original games with modern televisions this sounds extremely promising.

I'm new to the whole aftermarket FPGA consoles, but what necessarily does it mean that they offer 4K resolutions? Is it just the textures from the game cartridges aren't muddied through composite cables, or could you theoretically download fan-made HD texture packs?

...there's a new, currently unannounced 8BitDo N64 controller.

it looks neat but frankly the only controller I’m waiting for out here is a Gamecube NSO controller.

the second they make that — and I get my little claws around it — I will be satisfied

the new analogue thing is as good a time as any to acknowledge that, despite being considered impossible for the hardware for years, there is an N64 core for the MiSTer FPGA platform being developed at a pretty astonishing rate. the Analogue 3D will definitely have the advantage of putting out 4K natively, and MiSTer doesn't support physical cartridges in any way, but otherwise, I'd expect that when all is said and done, both will replicate N64 games with a similar level of accuracy. and even though MiSTer prices have gotten pretty ridiculous in the last few years, I'd be shocked if the 3D is somehow less expensive. plus MiSTer has support for like... every piece of video game software released prior too (and its an open-source platform!! and you won't have to wait 2+ years to actually get one!)

Not posting much lately because of an ongoing family emergency, but I've just done the eponymous sequence in Sea of Stars and this game really does just get better and better as it goes along. Getting some much needed immersion in this gem right now.
