The Switch 2 might not hit the levels the Switch 1 did, but I'm betting it sure will feel like it when it's impossible to find the first 6 months.

Mario is the definition of evergreen. Nintendo can launch a Mario game with the Switch 2 and it will sell millions over the years, long after the system launch. Just like....
  • Super Mario Bros (NES)
  • Super Mario Land (GB)
  • Super Mario World (SNES)
  • Super Mario 64 (N64)
  • Super Mario Advance (GBA)
  • Super Mario 64 DS (DS)
  • New Super Mario Bros U (Wii-U)
What's interesting about this list is that the only original Mario 3D that released with its system was Super Mario 64 in 1996. Since then, all Mario 3D games have been released within the consoles' first year or so.

GameCube: September 2001 --> Sunshine: July 2002
Wii: November 2007 --> Galaxy: November 2008
3DS: February 2011 --> 3D Land: November 2011
WiiU: November 2012 --> 3D World: November 2013
Switch: March 2017 --> Odyssey: October 2017

I'm not saying that the next 3D Mario won't launch with the Switch 2 ( It would be the perfect launch title for me ) but this pattern is funny

In terms of hardware sales, I don't think that the Switch 2 will match the Switch 1 simply because there was an incredible COVID boost in sales for the current hardware. The Switch did numbers in its fifth and sixth year that should straight up be illegal.

In terms of sales relative to its predecessor, this would be the worst failure in the last 30 years other than the Vita and Saturn?

Just really low expectations, lol. The PS3 is one of the worst failures in gaming history and hit 87m.
I mean I'd be fine with 80 million units sold for Switch 2 but I am sure investors would balk

It's putting the cart before the horse anyway, maybe Nintendo will surprise us yet again
80 million is the low bar for still obviously very successful but not infinite growth capitalism successful. Comparing a device that sells 80 million to the Vita or Saturn is laughable though.

And the PS3 was not a failure by the end of it's run and it's laughable to say it was. The PS3 was like the 3DS, a device that shot itself in the foot out the gate, but was able to patch up it's wound and have a very successful run.

In terms of hardware sales, I don't think that the Switch 2 will match the Switch 1 simply because there was an incredible COVID boost in sales for the current hardware. The Switch did numbers in its fifth and sixth year that should straight up be illegal.

What Switch is doing in year 7 should be illegal as well.

i'm expecting at least 100M for switch 2 unless Nintendo absolutely blows it for their first year like the wii u

Except for the 3DS, the rest of those systems had great launch games so they were able to make it without a 3D Mario (one had a 2D Mario even). The stars seem to be aligning for a Switch 2- 3D Mario marriage on launch day, but time will tell.

Now that we have a Switch 2 ST I'm pretty sure we've officially jinxed it and Nintendo will not name the console "Switch" anything.

Nintendo games I expect to launch between September 2024 and August 2026 (the first two years of Switch 2)

Probably next gen exclusive:

3D Mario Next
Any new casual IPs that take advantage of the Switch 2 hardware
Mario Kart Next

Probably cross gen:

Pokémon Legends Unova
Mario Party Next
Casual games that don’t need to use Switch 2 features
Lower budget games
Twilight Princess HD
Metroid Prime 4
Pokémon Gen 10
Fire Emblem Holy War remake

Maybe cross gen, maybe next gen exclusive

Forgotten Land 2
Metroid 6
EPD Tokyo 2D platformer

The question will be whether or not Nintendo has semi big but not huge games that could run on the Switch 1 (probably) actually release on the Switch 1 or not.

But I could see a first two years of only two major Nintendo exclusives on the Switch 2.

y'know what

if they make a hybrid that basically functions the same as switch but doesn't have backwards compatibility

then naming it "Nintendo Swap" or some shit would be the best marketing choice

Dunno if MP4 will be a launch title, but I'm sure it'll be used heavily in pre-release promotion and I could see it being the first major title to release after launch, and that's good enough for me.

What do we think is going on with the rumored EPD DK game? Do you think its coming, but it’s cross gen or will be exclusive to Switch 2?
I think it's coming but it'll be Switch 2 exclusive. We may get a few more cross-gen games than normal due to the Switch's success, but I still think people are overestimating the quantity. That's usually not Nintendo's MO for games that weren't originally announced for the earlier system.

Haha we fooled Nintendo! By the way, did anyone else just get a ceist and desist from Nintendo in their DMs?

I really want to believe that we get a Star Fox game early in the Switch 2 lifespan.

Just wait till you hear my Mario Galaxy opinions

Some predictions/hopes

When it comes to announcement timelines, these are the 2 most likely scenarios that I see happening:

H1 Launch: Announcement and reveal trailer in January, Full Presentation in March and Launch in April/May.
H2 Launch: Announcement and reveal trailer in March, Full Presentation in June (during E3 period) and Launch in September/October.

They will want all attention on the Switch during this last holiday period, so they will not reveal it before January.
At the very best they will make a public statement "we plan to launch a new system next year", but definitely no reveal trailer or anything like that before January.

If they're gonna have 2 SKUs at Launch (which I don't think they will) this is the only way I think it can happen:

Standard model: LCD Screen, 128GB/256GB Storage, 399$
Deluxe model: OLED Screen, 512GB/1TB Storage, 499$

I feel like the combination of OLED Screen + more storage is the only thing that could justify a 100$ price difference because I also don't think there will be a digital only Switch 2, Maybe as a very late revision in the consoles life cycle or maybe as a cheap model (lite), but if not we will need to wait until the Switch 3 to see a digital only model be the default option.
But I really don't think they will have 2 SKUs, this is just me coping and hoping because I want an OLED Screen at launch.
If it's only one SKU it's gonna cost 399$, they won't go above 449$.

DS is the last console that can be added to NSO, I feel like Gamecube-Wii-3DS games are simply too high value in Nintendo's eyes to be put on a subscription service and They would rather make Remakes/Remasters/hagi-ports of games from those consoles.

As for games, 3D Mario will most likely be there at day one because they need a system seller and Zelda wont come before 2027, Mario Kart will arrive within one year.
Prime 4 will be out at launch most likely with a dedicated cross-gen version, but if not at the very least there will be a next-gen patch.

And lastly, for the love of god, I really hope the Switch 2 OS isn't as barebones and souless as the switch one, the Switch 2 will almost certainly have at least 12 GB of ram so they have no excuse.

Maybe it's been long enough to be dead now, idk, but I do think it's funny how the fanbase was basically like "nah doesn't count" to Zero and has been treating Star Fox like a dead franchise for basically all of the Switch's lifespan.

Series I see returning in next gen

Star Fox
Wario Land
Endless Ocean remakes
Mario baseball
Wave Race

kinda not hard to when the game is a retelling of a retelling

My biggest hope for the next console is that they don't reset the retro game catalogue. I don't want to wait years just to play DKC2 again on a new console.
Although maybe if they started from scratch again they could make a good N64 emulator this time. BUT I DON'T WANT TO JINX IT

Next-Gen predictions (Spoiler: it's REALLY LONG):

-Talk surrounding it is going to be radio silent until early February 2024 (official and unofficial):
-Furukawa states in an investor's meeting that Nintendo's leap into the next-generation is starting in Late 2024 and that more news are right ahead in the coming month.

*Instead of a Nintendo Direct in February, we're finally getting a Direct in January, it reveals a remake of the first Unova games and Metroid Prime 4 with a small teaser, both cross-gen titles with a vague 2025.

March 3rd is the day:
-The day prior, at 10AM EST, Nintendo says the following on all their social media:

"To celebrate 7 years of Nintendo Switch on March 3rd, be among the first to discover our next-generation platform. Watch the Preview Trailer tomorrow at 7AM/10AM EST #NintendoSwitch"

-March 3rd comes and we get our first look at: Super Nintendo Switch. The trailer emphasizes it's capability of up to 4K120 output while docked (most games are gonna be 4K60) and 1080p120 while in handheld mode, the blazing-fast storage solution and it's battery life being 5 to 9 hours, Ray Tracing and shows the new Joy-Con. Games shown are: the next 3D Mario, Metroid Prime 4, Pikmin 4 and TotK in 4K60 with other graphics enhancements, Cyberpunk 2077, RDR2 and RE4 Remake. Trailer ends with: Coming September 2024.

-8 days later Nintendo states that a presentation is scheduled for May 17th.

The Super Nintendo Switch Presentation, presented by Yoshiaki Koizumi and Shinya Takahashi:

-It starts with a new trailer for Metroid Prime 4, with Ray Traced graphics, high res textures, scenary with a higher polygon count and many more on-screen effects and post processing. It's like comparing The Witcher 3 on Switch with The Witcher 3 on Xbox Series S. Release date: Winter 2025.

-The following is talk about Third-Party support. Here it's revealed that: Cyberpunk 2077 is a launch title with RDR2, Baldur's Gate 3, RE4 and Final Fantasy XIV following soon after. Monster Hunter 6, Star Wars: Outlaws and DOOM: Year Zero are confirmed for a day-and-day release on Super Switch.

-Now it's time to talk about: THE SUPER JOY-CON. It looks quite similar to a Steam Deck, expect it doesn't feature the touch-pads. The difference between the Super Joy-Con to it's predecessor are it's resistive joystick and (analog) triggers, which can apply force when being used for additional immersion.

-Next is shown the new OS: fast and controllable by other devices like smartphones and computers (it won't work if the console is 100% shut down or without Internet access). You're away from your Super Switch but knows what game you want to play next? Open the Nintendo Switch app and tell it to leave X game opened for when it wakes up; you can also change it's settings (themes, rearrange apps/folders, icon, username), make new a Mii, buy software through it, view achievements, send messages/invites to friends, etc (Everything that's possible to do with the console is possible to do with the app). Similar to the Xbox Series, it's possible to resume your last 3 games played to the state they last were. The eShop isn't garbage anymore, features Nintendo Switch games natively and has a rating system of 1-5 stars and a recommendation system based on your most played games.

-Going back to game reveals: Pokémon Let's Go! Johto and it looks like a next-gen game for God's sake. Similar structure to Let's Go! Pikachu & Eevee, 4K60+RT, launches November 15th. Ring-Fit Journey! A new Ring-Fit which takes full advantage of the Super Joy-Con motion sensors, coming Holiday 2024 with a new balance board for $70. Xenoblade Chronicles X time, now fully remade for Super Nintendo Switch, coming in Holiday 2024. And if you don't like remakes, you're unlucky because here's a Fire Emblem: Genealogy of War Remake, coming October 2024. The next-to-last new game shown is: The Legend of Zelda: Apocalypse, a new take on top-down Zelda made by EPD Tokyo and supervised by the minds behind Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, slated for a 2025 release.

-After this many new game announcements it's stated that, for $10 each or an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription, users will be able to upgrade select Nintendo Switch titles to take advantage of the new hardware's capability by adding Ray Tracing, higher fidelity graphics and both a 4K60 and 1440p120 game modes. It's also confirmed that the console IS backwards compatible and activities made on Nintendo Switch are moved to Super Nintendo Switch once the account is logged onto the new device.

-Before the final announcement of the day, it's unveiled the launch day and price of the Super Nintendo Switch, that being: September 13th 2024, Mario's birthday, with the price being $399.

-Now it's time for the final announcement: a new game from Nintendo EPD, the next in the Mario series: Super Mario Islands. Featuring gorgeous 4K60 ray traced visuals, Super Mario Islands is an open-world take on 3D Mario, where Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy and Toad visits multiple (big) islands in search of Power Stars before Bowser unleashes doom upon the universe once again. The game is a launch title for the Super Nintendo Switch, coming out on September 13th at $70.

-The presentation ends with Koizumi saying to keep being excited about the console, to expect even more news in the following months and confirms a new Mario Kart and Animal Crossing are in development for the system, nothing is shown.

What are devs Nintendo should moneyhat or hire for Switch 2 exclusives or timed exclusives (like Mario + Rabbids, Deathloop, etc)

Is Embracer so desperate for money that Nintendo could scoop up TimeSplitters 4.
Valve for console-exclusive Half-Life 3

Have Team Ninja make a DC Ultimate Alliance game.

Most people see those franchises as not currently dead/having been revived, but what they got was less than whatever Zero was in terms of originality.
probably because zero is objectively worse then 64 and the original game

The series doesn't need to be good to be active.

That's why it's funny that because Zero was a miss, people basically didn't count it. Because that's not... how it works.

IMO if you have seen a release in the last 10 years, you are not a dead franchise.
I feel like exceptions can be made for series who's studios shut down like Chibi-Robo and Mario & Luigi, I have a hard time believing they'll come back any time soon aside from maybe Chibi-Robo getting a HAGI port.
I agree though.
