I might cry when I see the new Monolith Soft game in 4K. I know many many of us will be through the roof when we see it.

I'm so ready for them to cook with improved hardware... give us something like the original Xenoblade X trailer showing off a beautiful new world and what's in it

omg this is going to be the dumbest post ever, please forgive me, but what's the difference between this and the hardware thread?? lol
hardware is for technical stuff specifically, like the chips in the console, what DLSS version and technology it uses, etc. we're not gonna be discussing stuff like that here. this thread will be for non-technology oriented speculation like games, gimmick, etc.

Thank you :)

Amazing, i would much prefer to live in this thread as hardware stuff fly's over my head lmfao

Assuming the 2witch is just Switch but better, it isn't going to be a necessity for the majority of switch owners, heck sales haven't really slowed down until this year.
I could see it launching H1 maybe around the MP4 release, because honestly the early adopters will be the hardcore audience. Better to save the big seller (3D Mario) for nearer the holidays where the general consumer would be more likely to pick up new hardware.
Also totally depends on whether there will be 2witch exclusive titles in that first year, especially with something like a new 3D Mario which I can't imagine won't be cross-gen.

Side note, I think RDR2 or something of that calibre will be the Skyrim moment in the 2witch presentation.

This is the exactly kind of thinking that limits a console launch, lol

You WANT your launch game to be something casual audiences actively want, it's what gets them to buy the console... hence, a system seller

gonna be tough to follow to threads at the same time, especially if news happens and both start moving fast

That's assuming the casual game is exclusive, which I highly doubt it will be. This isn't a wii u situation, the overwhelming majority aren't looking to jump ship.

You shouldn’t automatically assume that the hardcore audience cares about Metroid. 3D Mario is the much safer pick for a system-seller at launch.
I didn't assume that, I assumed that the audience the game is catered to would care more than the casual audience.

Well, if hardcore audiences don't care about Metroid, and casual audiences don't care about Metroid, who the heck cares about Metroid?
There are dozens of us! Dozens!

what do you think will come first new 3D zelda or New 2D zelda?
I can't imagine a new 3D Zelda coming out like 2 years after TotK, so 2D Zelda.
I could see a new 3D Zelda getting announced with a teaser before a new 2D one is shown though. They like to do that a lot of the time.

Kinda just hit me how the adventures of Champion Link are over, I really hope the next mainline Zelda goes even further into making Link an actual character, the BotW trilogy had my favourite version of Link so far because of that. Was nice getting multiple games to flesh out a depiction of Hyrule like that.

Nintendo is Sauce, therefore it’s SuS.
That’s what SuS implies.

So while I’m on team H1, I have to admit that I don’t believe Nintendo will release a 3D Mario in H1 so close to Mario Wonder. A September release seems more and more realistic.

2D Zelda. Late 2024 or early 2025. Cross-gen but play it on Switch 2, there where will be an additional dungeon that uses one of the new gimmicks of the new system.

Y’all better not will this into being a late 2024 launch or I’m gonna be upset
This is very much my expectation - September at the earliest but I feel like the holiday slot is too valuable for Nintendo to rush a launch for H1. The fact that we've only heard third and fourth hand rumors about a new console tells me it's still quite a ways off.

Launch titles won't stop existing by the holiday. If it's a big system seller it'll help sell the system both at launch and during the first holiday.

Also, whether there will be Switch 2 exclusives during the first year? Yes, yes there will be titles exclusive to a new system in the first year of that system. This isn't a pro version, this is a new system. I would assume there will be more exclusives than cross-gens.

Your plan seems like a very halfhearted attempt to actually sell this thing, throwing out a cross-release hardcore skewing game "around" launch, then waiting like half a year until the big seller which apparently also launches on the Switch. With, seemingly, the possibility of no exclusives the first year.

You realize that the Switch 2 will be their priority next year, right? Which entails trying to sell the thing, which entails exclusives, presumably a big title at launch (Metroid can't run lead, especially considering Japan), and a much less prioritized Switch lineup.

Pros of a H2 launch: I have more time to try to clear my Switch 1 backlog.
Cons of a H2 launch: I won’t use that extra time to try to clear my Switch 1 backlog.

Outside of A Link Between Worlds, there’s no 2D Zelda games that could be remade.
I think youre forgetting about The Legend of Zelda, and Zelda 2, and A Link to the Past, and the Oracle games, and 4 Swords Adventures, etc. They have a lot of 2D games to go through if they absolutely need to remake a game lol

The Oracle games seem ripe for a remake ala Link's Awakening. I'd rather get a new 2D Zelda first, but I'm all up for Oracle remakes at some point.

Let me just quickly throw in one of my wishes for the Switch 2, then (which I originally posted in the General Discussion):

I can only hope the Switch 2 comes with a fan profile / cooling system that is as good as the current one when playing handheld; especially looking at the OLED, which I sometimes don't even notice being actively cooled. That's how quiet the thing runs. The fan noise is one of the things which makes the Steam Deck so much less attractive to use for me, and capping everything to 10 watts and lower does help (and saves on battery, too), but also limits the devices potential and usability in some ways. Not ideal, then.

Fair point, but I meant more in the sense of spreading out first party single player experiences. A Mario Kart or another multiplayer game with widespread appeal would be an excellent launch title.

I don't doubt there won't be exclusives I just expect most of them to be 3rd party, I just don't see many if any 1st party casual games being exclusive in that first year.

Not halfhearted, just conscious of the fact that the "I need new hardware/Switch is underpowered trash" crowd is a vocal minority.

Of course they're going to prioritise 2witch, I just don't think they're going to suddenly forget about the massive install base they've got in the background.

So hard to remake that they might as well make a brand new game tier: Zelda 1, Zelda 2, Phantom Hourglass, Spirit Tracks

Already got a remake: Link’s Awakening, A Link to the Past (kind of)

Would not have been put on NSO if Nintendo planned a remake any time soon probably: Oracle games, Minish Cap

I guess but it wasn’t really that popular? Four Swords Adventure

It’s a Link Between Worlds remake time or just make a whole new game.

While I generally do think that in some cases NSO means that we won't see a game re-released, Link's Awakening is on NSO and has a remake. If you go ask people if they'd rather pay $50 a year for a subscription service to play a Gameboy game, or $60 once to play a remake of said game with modern graphics, controls, UI, etc I'd wager you'd see most people go with the remake. They could remake the Oracle games or Minish Cap and it would do fine.

Good idea for a thread, given there's a lot to discuss that's not hardware focused.

For example, how long until we get Kirby Air Ride City Trial 99 as a Switch 2 NSO exclusive?

Link's Awakening is on NSO and has a remake.
Yeah, but it ended up on NSO years after the remake was released. I do agree that a game being on NSO doesn't necessarily mean it can't be remade, but I don't think we have a case yet where the NSO release of a game predates the remake.

I have a weird wish, I would say, about the Nintendo Switch 2's reveal, and that is I hope they reuse the same music from the 2016 reveal, a.k.a Ha Ha Ha Ha (Yeah), it just captures PERFECTLY the Nintendo Switch's vibe and would be hella nostalgic to hear it again in the succesor's reveal trailer.

Do we know the band that released that song? I wouldn't mind listening to a whole album in that style.

Right when I turn on my switch OLED I hear the fan turn to full speed lol. My switch lite never did this but my OLED is LOUD when starting up.

The Oracle games are also kind of weird to remake because

1. They share so much in common that they would be hard to sell as two separate games

2. But they’re probably more work than just one game would be due to how hard these graphical effects (the seasons one would be miserable) would be to do.

3. The games are fairly popular, but not that popular.

4. They’re pretty similar to Link’s Awakening which feels weird to remake after Link’s Awakening

Just don’t see it after they were added to NSO.

New game time

They packaged two Advance War games into a $60 game. They can do the same for the Zelda Oracle games.

To be clear, I am not expecting these games next year or that soon. I still think that a new 2D Zelda will come sometime in the next two years. I just don't think it is fair to rule out Oracle remakes as never happening. Never is a long time.

What if it isn't a remake? What if it's the Pokemon Platinum to a Diamond and Pearl, type of deal. But it just so happens to be 25ish years late. Then it's a new* game!

*kinda

Brand new console is dropping within the next year, and all y'all want are remakes of games we can already play on Switch, smh.
I'm not doing that. I want something original. Something that can only be made by taking advantage of the next Switch's hardware

Mario Party Superstars 2

Launch lineup:

Hey You Mimikyu
New Super Hotel Mario 3D,
Donkey Konga (New Funky Mode)
Star Fox Sub-Zero
Zelda Wand of Gamelon (Full 4k Remake)
Metroid Prime 4: Other F(ederation Force)

Obviously new (especially exclusive, not crossgen) games are the most exciting thing to wish for, but I also really want the DS library to hit NSO as part of the launch!

So... the eternal loop moves here, and the other topic will become a desert place!

I’m more excited for what games get showcased in the Switch 2 reveal trailer than I am for the system itself. I remember back in 2016 when Skyrim was shown off and they were quick to be like “uhh haha that’s just a mock-up it might not even happen” and then January came around and Todd Howard showed up during the Nintendo Switch presentation.

I think Final Fantasy will take that spot. I don’t know if it’ll be Final Fantasy Remake, 16, or Rebirth, but there’s nothing else “jaw dropping” from a third party that I can think of that would garner such a big reaction.

I would have said Persona 6 instead, but I am 99% sure Xbox will have that game’s marketing rights locked down.

Final Fantasy wouldn't feel like a wtf moment (well it definitely would have pre Switch days), I think it will be Cyberpunk 2077.
