StarTopic Nintendo General Discussion | ST24 September 2023 | Barely Able Will Star as the Main Poster in a Brand New ST (temp.)

Hey everyone, the plan going forward for the Direct Speculation thread is set now. The Speculation thread will remain open through the airing of the Direct for the spoiler crowd (Pyoro is leaking the Direct). This General Discussion thread and the ultimate Direct thread (ie “Nintendo Direct announced for Wednesday at 7:00 AM” or whatever) will be leak free! When the Direct ends, the Speculation thread will be directed to the ultimate Direct thread to reunite the two crowds!

Btw if it wasn’t clear, by all means the non-spoiler crowd is more than welcome to keep speculating and having fun here!

Why is the Apple Pencil 2 so good? I’m falling in love over here.

I still gotta get one! Honestly the iPad is so fun and feels good to use as a couch computer. I do wish it could run some macOS apps, but the number of apps I wish it could run that it can’t or doesn’t have an alternative for is shrinking.

Writing songs that have words is way harder than songs that are just musics.

I like musics a lot better.

That's practically impossible unless you're using it for 10h straight.

I feel like your E3 question is in mocking scare quotes BA compared to how others have read it, so I’ll pick the Ubisoft host Mr. Caffeine. That guy gave off some weird energy between not knowing how to pronounce Tom Clancy, his time travel noises and motions, and bad jokes.
I guess I wanted to give some latitude for the bad marketing ideas as well. More just a fun way to get some great E3 moments out there.

F-Zero means something different if the topic of conversation is Mega Man X

It's not a moment I've been able to watch live, nor is it one I'm particularly fond of because it's kind of what killed SEGA consoles, but from a purely marketing point of view, it must be this

This is mine. I also think the Sony press conference post Xbox one always online where they just undercut that whole thing was genius. The later instructional video was next level. Xbox one was probably already relegated to bad sales but that really torpedoed any upward momentum.

Legendary night. Sony won the generation in the span of four minutes. I was laughing my ass off the whole time.

Despite the protests of the eldest daughter and the Mrs. we're an Apple free household.
My old boss's wife did the whole "Apple household" thing, but without checking with him first. 😅 Bought them both iphones and a new MacBook as a surprise, presented it to him by saying "now you can do some of your work from home!" And he told her "that's a very sweet thing for you to do, but none of the programs I use for work will run on this."

So she uses their very expensive MacBook for Netflix and internet browsing, and he bought a bargain PC to work from home. 😅

At least having apple products and a product from a different ecosystem is much more doable nowadays. I remember having an android phone when they first came out and a MacBook. Was basically impossible to do anything (like download music, remember those days?!?)

Back at my first job, a shiiiiiiiiitload of project managers wanted to have Macbooks, wouldn't listen to any reasonable argument against.

So of course they all got them.

2 weeks later our sysadmin was yelling curses so loud you could hear them on the street because everyone of those new Macbook owners wanted him to put Windows on it because they couldn't come to terms with MaxOS and the different software they had to use for their stuff.

Yes, very happy that the devices themselves are mostly becoming bilingual so they can at least chat with each other.

Haha! So many people want "shiny new and expensive thing" not knowing how to correctly operate it and DEFINITELY not knowing how much strain these devices, especially i-devices, put on sysadmins and those who are in charge of the business IT. Even being able to simple print on an intranetnetwork with stanrd Xerox-printers is a huge hassle with a Macbook.

Man today was wild

Typhoon over Tokyo (but it was quite manageable), rain rain rain, saw a bit of Ginza, went to Akihabara, a nice old man sitting next to me while having some tonkatsu gave me his coupon for a discount (he was super cool, we communicated in broken Japanese and English, but it was worth it). And Akihabara… holy shit. It was cool.

Super Patato is way over priced. I went to Retro Game Camp, far cooler. Beep was fun too.

And I got Mother 3, wooooh. Its only the cartridge, but getting it in a box is near impossible for an acceptable price.

And I got Super Street Fighter II Turbo, Starfy 2, Jump Ultimate Super Stars and Biohazard for PlayStation for very reasonable prices.

That just goes to show what an amazing job microsoft did in the 90s and early 2000s. I remember hating Macs because I just didn’t get it, but now that I use them for work I wouldn’t go back.

Also, Macbook build quality is generally far superior to other laptops. I have a gaming laptop, costs pretty much the same as a Macbook. Functionality aside, I can do tons more on the gaming laptop than I could on the Macbook, it just feels cheap.

I guess it all comes down to personal preference. I prefer iPhones and Macbooks, the ecosystem just works, I could be filling out a spreadsheet and making a phone call on my iPad and move on to my iPhone and Macbook seamlessly. I can’t do that on Windows and Android, so convenience is also a factor.

I remember when jailbreaking was a huge thing, but now I’m just like whatever, that’s all just fluff and I don’t need any of it. Like, someone was saying to me once well you can’t play these emulators on your iPhone I can. Teen theguy hated that I couldn’t, adult theguy says okay but I have a Switch now and gaming on phones sucks peen.

Got a bad ear infection today. My primary doctor seems to be booked today but they said he’ll give me a call. Hopefully he’ll prescribe some antibiotics over the phone cause he gets pretty stingy when I try to get my antidepressants refilled without going in.

Ayyyyy, I got hit with a baby typhoon while I was in Yokohama! Surely it's a rite of passage.

Your Akiba adventure sounds amazing too, hooooly cow an actual physical cart of Mother 3 😮

Also!!! Not sure what sorts of food you're into, but there's a place my friends took us to called Pepper Lunch, they have several locations so you might find one close. It's sorta like fast food yakiniku and it's really friggin good, we went back multiple times.

I’m jealous but I’d be kit hunting myself

This is really really really going to be a really really really long weekend. I should probably play some video games to pass the ti-
blood starts to seep out of a paper thin cut across my throat as a Famiboards Ninja appears from behind me
“We don’t do that here,” he whispers into my ear as I fall to the ground in a puddle of my own blood. I hear the sound of a phone dialling out.
“Hello, 911, there’s been a murder in the building”
the Famiboards ninja takes off his mask to reveal that he was Steve Martin

Someone quoted me in the direct thread while I was asleep but I am not going in there with the leaks and I put it on ignore so I won't be tempted by the spoilers. It ruined the last direct for me so avoiding it at all costs this time.

Yeah, don't enter if you wanna avoid leaks. It's the wild west in there.

I have a work-provided Windows machine that I exclusively use to do my job. All of my personal devices are Apple (M1 Mac Mini, M1 iPad Air, iPhone 12 Pro Max, AirPods Pro 2, Apple Watch Series… something, I forget)

I really love how everything is just everywhere without having to think about it. I take a photo on my iPhone, and it’ll just be on my iPad when I need it. I start typing something on my iPad, and then I move over to my home computer (which unlocks automatically with my Apple Watch) for the better keyboard, etc etc. I know “it just works” is a oft-repeated phrase with regards to the Apple ecosystem but it’s true: stuff just works. I’ll never switch to Windows or Android, Apple stuff is just too convenient.
