Because the Star Fox Zero thread was bumped I went and got the Wii U plus Star Fox out of storage.

Excited to buy a Series S tomorrow. When I unpack it and set it up on Saturday, I'll introduce it to the Switch and make sure it knows its position in the pack.

I am actually very much looking forward to getting one and trying Game Pass because I spent most of 2002 to like 2016 playing across Nintendo systems and Xbox so maybe Series S is the opportunity for Xbox to win back a permanent place in my set up

I'm going to post again about 3D World because it's so much fun! I made it to the final world and beat the mystery house level (after MANY failed attempts) only to realize that in order to 100%, I have to beat every level with every character. I might be playing it a while longer... it works out though, I have been trying to avoid RPG's/long games for the next few weeks while I finish the semester. 3D World and Hades have given me some great pick up and play options recently.

To be honest, I feel like it looks a little dull. I'm not sure the auto-attacking mechanic is for me. I tend to prefer the classical arpg as in, when I press a button, the action occurs. I still do like turn-based, but I find I'm not quite as immersed in such games. I'm pretty picky on the games I do end up enjoying when turn-based is the predominant style. Now Xenoblade just looks like it takes this a step further. I could be completely wrong, but from watching clips, it looks like you just end up watching most of your fights rather than participating.

I really wish there was a demo...

Honestly I would still pick XC2 over XCDE if your main doubt is the battle system. It is true that XC2 is the slower of the two to really engage in its "full" combat mechanics, but it is also by far the most fun of the two in my opinion.

Early game (defined by "all that happens before you have a party of 3 members + blades") there are some tricks to speed up the combat and making it more "active", and once you have 3 party members you can really have fun with it.

My main tips are:

1. Learn how to stutter step for a faster art recharge: tutorial
2. Always use the "narcipear jelly" you buy from the dessert shop in the first location as pouch item (faster art recharge)
3. Skip all the side content until you have 3 drivers
4. When you have a party of 3, resonate at least 1 rare blade on Rex and 1 rare blade on Nia (if you have the expansion pack, resonate the Ebullient Core Crystal on Nia)

I also was in your position when I first tried it because the game looked interesting but the combat system also looked like a mix of boring looking and overwhelming.

I’m very envious of Forza and Halo

Maybe I’ll have to see if my old computer can run these games..

It's intended to encourage multiplayer since you can complete the level with up to four characters in one go, but it's still kinda crappy. I never managed to 100% the game because of this, despite doing three all stars runs across Wii U and Switch.

I eventually came to the conclusion that I just don't care about Monolith Soft games. Aside from the blatant sexualization that plagues their titles, I care little for their storytelling and combat design.

I see. I can just speedrun the earlier levels with everyone since I have all the stamps and stars, but doing the crown world levels 5 times sounds scary. I might still get it done if I don't start playing something else over the next few weeks, but it will be tough.

Pretty much the same for me, I tried Xenoblade on the 3DS and came to the conclusion it wasn't for me. I honestly just did not understand the combat no matter how hard I tried, and once I kept dying against a boss I moved on to other things.

Happy thanksgiving to all who will be celebrating (and happy Thursday to everyone else. You get paid leave and health insurance most likely so that’s better than 2 days off). Kids woke up at 6 AM as is routine for the day off. So they have been playing and I plan on playing picross all day while football is on in the background. The chocolate cream pies are turning out magnificent. Will have to post pictures when done.

Where is the AC thread here on Fami? I got to unload some turnips because I felt hella ambitious this past Sunday trying to get back in the game lol

Ok, who did this?

If it helps, get to the end of each crown level world, then turn on the controllers to get the other characters in there? Could save some time.

As much as I love 3D World, I've never gotten all 5 stars. I did all the levels with Mario and most with Luigi, though the Mystery House ended my hopes there. Maybe one day I'll do it. Makes how easy getting 5 stars is in Bowser's Fury pretty funny.

Everyone is welcomed to have their opinion on stuff, unless it turns into another "you are stupid if you like X" like it is from certain mods in other places

bonus points for implying that XC2 players are all potential sexual predators

The kinds of implications one could make about people just based on the games they enjoy... of course, if it's about certain darlings they will net you a nice ban.

I'm really tempted to get one myself. I'm still not sure how I feel about 500 GB for an all digital console, so I'll probably wait and see if they introduce a 1 TB version sometime next year. But other than that, the proposition is really tempting. Especially because it doesn't need its own appartment like the other current gen alternatives.

I will try that for sure with champion's road and the mystery house (if it lets me do that in the final room). I haven't attempted champion's road too seriously yet but I can already tell I won't want to do it 5 times.

Now that you mention Bowser's Fury, I'm reminded that I have barely played it. I'll get to it sometime!

Yeah, the storage side of things is a little irritating, but I'm definitely planning on using it less than the Switch so I don't think I'll run into issues in the short-term. The lack of a disc drive is also slightly annoying because I'm sure I still have some 360 games which I either might revisit or which I never actually played because I bought them second-hand after release (hello, Lost Odyssey). But, on balance, I think a Series S as a complementary machine to my Switch is a good move.

Plus, my white SwOLED and Series S have the same colour scheme so there's that.

Depends a little on how you play. I find 500GB (in reality much less than that) a bit limiting for Xbox One/Series games so there's some fridge juggling involved if you're in the mood for some Wii nostalgia. You can still play your OG XBOX, 360 and unoptimized ONE games off an external HDD as well, though.

when you entre the "deals" section of the eshop which sorts games by which ones are selling best

How fucked up is it that Nintendo never released an update to allow you to change the settings on a Wii U without the gamepad? They were just like "fuck you, our way or the uh sourway"

Oh man, Bowser's Fury is lovely. A short but sweet romp that nicely combines the power ups and platforming focus of 3D World proper with more open progression. That's a title I really want to go through one last time before the new year. I already played it twice - once on my own, another time as the assist Bowser Jr. while my partner was Mario. It actually became my partner's favorite 3D Mario! They said that Bowser's Fury reminded them of how fun 3D platforming could be and loved mix and matching power ups to tackle different situations.

They really did not want anyone to even so much as imagine the use of a Wii U without a functional GamePad within 3 feet of the player.

I played TWEWY on the DS in 2008 as a high school-attending teenager. The main character's attitude struck a major chord with me, and that game, frankly, gave me a new outlook on life. It absolutely means the world to me. That game is an all-time classic.

NEO TWEWY came out when I was almost 30, in a year full of other games I wanted to play. I played the demo. It was alright! I actually found the teenaged characters charming and believably written. I will probably play the full game at some point, if I could get it digitally for the price it's going for physically at American Wal-Marts.

But real talk: in the 13 years since I played the original, the urgency a TWEWEY sequel would conceivably garner from me fell precipitously every year. If this game came out in like 2011/2012 on 3DS, it would have been a Day One Purchase for me. In 2021? Yeah, I'll get it on sale I guess.

The lack of a disc drive is gladly not an issue for me since I haven't owned an Xbox yet. It would be dealbreaking if I was considering a PS5, though, because most of my PS4 library is physical.

I still own the OG 500 GB PS4 and I know I've occasionally ran into issues there, so with how much bigger current gen games are I can see it becoming an issue quickly. If I get a Series S, it would be a supplementary console to my Switch, but I still feel like 1 TB should be the bare minimum with how much space games need nowadays. I know they wouldn't be able to do ghat at the current price, though. Those SSDs are expensive.

Today I learned Kirbys air ride was a n64 game originally

Does anyone know if it was ever confirmed that Sakurai worked on this version of the game?

Apparently it was spun-off from an extra mode in the cancelled sequel to Kirby's Dream Course, but he was working on Super Star at the time and then moved onto Smash 64.
