Personally I'm super happy Kirby is going 3D because I thought the formula was wearing thin after Star Allies.

I'm just wondering if Kirby's part of an overall trend from Nintendo we are seeing. I really miss DK and a new evolution of 2D Mario past the "New" style would be exciting.
iirc monkepd is supposed to be 2D, if you believe that sort of thing

They need to put Yoshi to rest for a while and bring back the GOAT

Nobody knows if the hypothetical DK at EPD is 2D or 3D, but they did hire staff for a 2D project. That being said, it's also possible they're collaborating or assisting EPD 10 with a 2D Mario. Question marks abound.

Would Nintendo really release botw2 and xenoblade 3 around the same time, I feel like 2 big open world games like that should release a few months apart rather than both in the holiday season.
this is a fair point, and it's why I can see them sitting on xenoblade for half a year

I think the fate of Mario Maker (for the time being) will depend on what Shigefumi Hino works on next, especially since the series director has left Nintendo. He was actively moved off Pikmin to work on all three Mario Maker games.

Regular 2D Mario will probably be sooner rather than later. NSMBU Deluxe was apparently finished in 2018 but was held back. That Kyoto 2D game contract job was put up back in October 2019.

you've gotta be fucking kidding me
Pikmin 3 had two directors. The other one has only been credited on Hey Pikmin as a character supervisor and Pikmin 3 Deluxe as "Chief Director" since. So he's more than likely the one on Pikmin 4.

Hino also has a long history with 2D Mario, so it isn't a surprise that he was brought on for Mario Maker.

Wario Land is the 2D platformer we truly need, yes.

but it'd be cool if Next Level were working on a 3D Wario game, you know...

BotW2 September. Bayo 3 October, [Something Else] November, Xenoblade December.

Good enough gap if you ask me.

Mario Maker 2 is one of the best games on Switch and I'm holding every person who did not buy it responsible for its performance

Especially you, the person reading this

I bought Mario Maker 2 and I regret buying it. Probably only put a few hours into it. Never tried many of the updates either.

Wasn’t nearly as much fun as the Wii U game. I think they should’ve let like a mouse pad for creating levels or something. It sucked making levels in Mario Maker 2.

But I did guess that we wouldn’t get about game series for level creation, even tho it had that blank space. Not the best prediction to make sadly

I don't think XC3 will be December for that reason.
Definitive Edition and Torna were may and September releases respectively, I think it can release anywhere between May-September. It would make a good May release if it was announced at the TGA, but I think June or July would be the perfect spot. Of course the month that isn't the one that Splatoon launches. It can come in the same month as a game like M+R 2, or the casual game and etcetera.

I know I often say I'm trying to will a particular reality into existence, but Next Level making a 3D Wario is the dream reality I am actively and persistently attempting to will into existence.

January: Pokemon Legends
February: Stinky Horse Game
March: Triangle Strategy, Kirbeh
April: Mario + Rabbids 2
May: RE Outrage
June: Xenoblade 3
July: Splatoon 3
August: Bayonetta 3
September: Fire Emblem 17
October: Prime HD
November: BotW 2
December: some shit nobody cares about

It is known.

I am Yeah!ing this valuable information, not this Pikminless timeline

I bought it despite the fact that, as a Pikmin fan, its failure was in my interest

Jin. What a splendid soul.

"In the course of a lifetime a man will see uncountable meetings and partings. Yet, as your life's candle sputters and dies... whose face is it that rises to greet you? Happy is the man who can sleep in the comfort of the smile he sees then. No... I don’t wish for "forever". Even just for one moment... It’s enough... if it’s with her. And yet... what is the man to do... who has not been afforded that chance...? The road stretches on without end. I cannot but walk down it. As long as I keep walking, I can hold out hope that one day, the time may come... when I see her smile again. That hope keeps me afloat..."

I love Jin, we share the same existencial fears.

Traditionally, the "red" version (Red/Gold/Ruby/Diamond/Black/X/Sun/Sword) sells better than the "blue" version (Blue/Silver/Sapphire/Pearl/White/Y/Moon/Shield). The exception to this is the second generation games and their remakes, where Silver and SoulSilver outsold Gold and HeartGold, mainly thanks to Lugia's appearance in Pokémon 2000 and the anime.

To add some perspective:

Blue = Original ; Yellow = 3rd Version ; Green = Remake

Kirby or Splatoon 3 in March would make me an extremely happy cappy.

Barring a surprise new game dropped before then, it looks like these are the next two Switch games I'll be buying, so it'd be nice if I don't have to wait 6 months or more for them.

The good thing with this year is given how Nintendo titles are set up, it is just very likely than the Direct will occur in February rather than Jan/March because of :
  • Arceus in Late January
  • Triangle Startegy in early March which should get its second demo
  • Need to date Kirby and AW which are still officially slated for Spring and 2022.
I won't be waiting like a foot for a January direct it seems.

We should start with the predictions then.

Here's a wild guess: Square will ditch the cloud versions of KH1.5+2.5 and announce that they'll bring them natively.

And announcement of Final Fantasy Tactics & Tactics Ogre Remastered versions.

And Dragon Quest 3 remake dated for September.

And Final Fantasy IX remake with no target date.

And Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary collection.

This is gonna be a s Square mega show isn't it.

I'm starting to think the casual stinker is tomodachi 3

"Everybody's Tomodachi" or variant even sounds like a good title, and horse people wouldn't be out of place in such a surreal game. and as fun and weird as they are, it's definitely a shallow series

I'm ready for a Twitter Direct with dates for Advance Wars and Kirby sometime in December.

I've just accidentally purchased a non-English game on the UK eShop. It was a visual novel I've had on my wishlist that went on sale for the first time. The description is in English, and the trailer has English subs... And to top it off I read a review of the English localisation for PC before I purchased. Admittedly, the box where it says supported languages only lists Japanese and Chinese... But I didn't even think to check...

What are my chances of getting a refund?

I'm in bed so will give it a shot after work tomorrow as I need my console's serial number to contact Nintendo.

Can't believe this game is on the European eShop without a bold warning it is not in English or any other European language. Oh my days.

The game in question is: https://www.nintendo.co.uk/Games/Nintendo-Switch-download-software/Christmas-Tina-2005016.html

If anyone is interested in the title you can buy it in English from Manga Gamer.

is the ds considered retro yet
My completely arbitrary designation on “retro” is less about time passed but more about percentage of time. So if we think of console gaming has having started in earnest in the late 70s, by 2000 one might consider 80s games to be “retro” because they exist in the first half of console gaming history. So I might think of 90s games as “retro” but not 00s quite yet.

No chance, lol. Tomodachi Life is the 10th best-selling 3DS game.

It WOULD validate 'NoA have bad taste Theory', but it doesn't fit the clues at all.

I'm going by GameCenter CX rules; so the DS won't be retro until 2024.

damn this thread moves fast on days I don’t look at it. I’m about to go assemble a bench for the entrance of our house while listening to Eiichi Ohtaki’s album A Long Vacation. What’s up!! How’s everyone doing

The DS is absolutely retro

Also a new Tomodachi Life would be incredible
