So if you still haven't played Origami King perhaps you should get it while it's on sale because it's the best game
Origami King was close to a 10/10 game for me. The main reason it isn't was because of the combat. Music, GFX, Story & narrative where all 10/10

I still feel it is very strange for a company like Nintendo to be holding up finished title while other company had no qualm in releasing unfinished title lol. What's so different between Ninty and other company there?
It's not a new thing for Nintendo to intentionally sit on certain titles for scheduling reasons.

Majora's Mask 3D was held back to coincide with the western release of the New 3DS. Ever Oasis and the Superstar Saga remake were added to the eShop servers (though were inaccessible) months before release. Superstar Saga hadn't even been announced at that point.

How would you all feel if 2022's lineup was:
  • Pokémon Legends: Arceus
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land
  • Splatoon 3
  • Fire Emblem
  • Mario + Rabbids 2
  • Sequel to Casual game
  • Triangle Strategy
  • Bayonetta 3
  • The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3
  • Advance Wars 1 + 2
  • Metroid Prime HD Remaster
Would you be satisfied with 2022 if this was the lineup?
To me this is way better year than 2017. In fact i don’t think any lineup even outside the switch era will top 2022 if that list is real

I just know in my heart of hearts that Nintendo has been sitting on a finished Sin & Punishment 3 for close to a decade. They're just waiting for the day when gamers finally develop good taste.

There are lots of games here that I will be interested in buying, but I will also be disappointed in how it's lacking in major new IPs.

As crazy good as Emily's list is, it's only 12 games. One of those games is a Square Enix title published by Nintendo outside Japan, and another is an Ubisoft title published by Nintendo in Japan.

There'll be more than those 12 games from Nintendo in 2022. Maybe some of that stuff will be new IP. One thing that's missing that could be due soon is Style Savvy, which recruitment ads indicated was in development. Some stuff will be eShop only. Some things will surprise everyone. Maybe Detective Pikachu finally emerges.

Nintendo published 20 or so games every full calendar year the Switch is on the market. That indicative list is fantastic, but it's not everything that will appear in 2022, and I'm sure Emily wasn't suggesting that's the comprehensive, complete line up.

The regular combat was bearable (which is not the greatest praise I know) but the bosses were great. Everything else about the game was simply perfect.

Let's all agree that if only 50% of Emily's list is going to happen in 2022, then we should gift her a full year of Famiboards.

Not Nintendo related:
Thanks to the early BF deals and Amazon.de being on a price-match-EVERYONE spree i just got GotG PS5 and ToA PS5 for a total of 62 bucks at Amazon.de.

Cool.

Orange and black Gamecubes were the best, sorry. And the mint green one, if that was actually real.

I would play everything here (well, casual sequel pending more information). Some of the best Nintendo IPs and a heavy slant towards RPGs and strategy games feels custom-built for me. Here's hoping!

Extremely satisfied.

Yes:
Pokémon Legends: Arceus, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Splatoon 3, Mario + Rabbids 2, Triangle Strategy, Breath of the Wild 2, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and Advance Wars 1+2 are all locks for me.

Maybe:
I might buy Fire Emblem (depending on its setting) and Metroid Prime HD Remaster (I own MPT so it would depend on how improved the version is). The sequel to a casual game is something I'm unlikely to buy and depends completely on what it is and how it plays.

No:
Bayonetta 3 is the only game that I definitely won't buy. I hope it turns out well for series' fans, but it's not my cup of tea.

My cold take too. I think if they had used the combat system more sparingly rather than it being for every mook, it would have gone over better. I thought it was quite cool, but not nearly cool enough to carry the ubiquity it had.

Warmer take: adding EXP wouldn't have been a fix. It would have made it worse.

Looks like there's some decent sales this time around for games. Well gotta look into what the Mrs. might get me for christmas. ;D

Go on, i'm interested.
it’s like the first game but now you can explore the wets that were previously verboten

Hotter take: EXP and level growth isn't really necessary in any game (maybe in pokémon because it's cool to see them evolve). It just makes everything grindier and more boring. It's ubiquitous now and a requirement of every game because our lizard brains love seeing the little numbers go up.

Mouthwatering lineup. Adding Silksong, Sports Story and the usual array of amazing indie titles that always show up and my wallet's crying.

This and this.

I bristle immensely when people say that what a game that doesn't use RPG style levelling needs is RPG style levelling.

I'm not thinking of anyone in particular. How dare you accuse me of that!

The truth hurts, and pain can make you sad.
no I'm just sad that you don't enjoy other video games

the thought of anyone not enjoying mario kart or wii sports and wishing they played like pokemon has ruined my day and I just woke up

Oh I certainly enjoy other games, but:

sigh I just know I'm going to buy this again and be disappointed (again) that there's a really good game in here waiting to be found underneath the charm if the devs could just scrap all the annoyances out like the gacha and crafting grind. But I will always support the people that gave us Legend of Mana and Mother 3.

Real take: Every game would be improved by becoming a turn based RPG.

I genuinely believe this.
I'm going to allow this because it's a necessary evil to counteract the "turn-based gameplay should be erased from history" people, one of the greatest current threats to humanity.

I had never heard of this until yesterday but it looks so much like Legend of Mana I'm surprised I didn't know about it. Do we know if this removes any F2P gacha elements from the mobile version?

Turn based Wave Race would be like Bravely Default. You can 'wave' and forego the chance to move, saving up energy, or you can 'race' and take a huge step forward but expend energy.

Cruisin' works similarly but it's Cruise and Yeah!

The Gematsu article with the trailer didn't have any details on changes. IIRC the gacha was mostly a bonus raffle thing I think? Which was in the trailer briefly. But the game had the requisite F2P stuff with an emphasis on grinding crafting materials and some timer based stuff (I think growing the eggs?) which was odd because the game wasn't F2P.

The game overall really wears the Legend of Mana inspiration on its sleeve (although I think the character art is better in LoM, this is closer to Magical Starsign/Vacation) and it's a good framework to build a game around. But they swapped out the combat for something more akin to a roll & move board game with some very light combat. It was enjoyable but it ultimately didn't hold my attention. I'm hoping they tweak things so progression moves at a more engaging clip and putting it on a dedicated gaming system will work better for it.
