Actually here it is in better quality than Twitter allowed; I can still contribute something (courtesy of @Forkball)!

Still wondering how they're going to balance all those pikmin while introducing the dog too. I hope electric instakill is back, yellows feel largely useless without it.

the split screen looks like Bingo Battle

Gimme split screen co-op!!

I'll bet it's a new type of battle mode that has this bomb pedestal thing as some kind of payload. Pikmin 2 and Pikmin 3's battle modes had different rules, so I bet they're changing it again.

i dont usually buy full into leakers but the guy who mentioned 2d mario and a snes remake leaked some stuff that really couldnt have been predicted in the past and papa genos is saying SMRPG remake, not gonna doubt him again after he leaked the Prime HD shadow drop. kinda sad we might already know the big opener and closer but a remake of mario rpg would be amazing, really curious about the scope/how much they change, and a 2d mario has potential to be great as well. kinda sad that it pretty much cements no DK this year but it is what it is, im already pretty satisfied with zelda, pikmin and fire emblem

Oh no, the leaks are starting to sound genuine, I have to bow out of this thread now, see you guys in a few hours haha

HMMMmmmmmm are they just doing “one person moves, one person aims” for co-op??? That’s extremely disappointing if so
The second player screen has mutant Pikmin Dog (and you can see it in the first player screen) so I think it's traditional co-op

Though might just be a mission instead of the campaign

One thing I'm interested in is if they can make a 2D Mario that feels both fresh and also is seen as equal to SMB3/SMW in the canon of great Mario platformers. The NSMB games are well made and there technically isn't much wrong with them, but not a whole lot of people would say they are as good or better than the classic duology. Part of that is because of how iterative they are, a problem similar to the one 3D Zelda had for a long time where all the games stood in OOT's shadow. Maybe Nintendo will come up with some new mechanic or idea that totally rethinks the series, or they manage to make something that feels similar to the NSMB games but is more exciting and novel. Really curious what it will be.

For me I think the big thing is if they can constantly deliver novel and interesting level concepts like 3D World did, which is my favorite 3D Mario, as well as a good mix of creative visuals and soundtrack instead of the same reused assets over and over.

Story mode co-op was introduced in Pikmin 3 Deluxe, so even if Pikmin 4 only has Galaxy 2-style co-op for the main story it'll be a cut above Pikmin 2 and base 3.

Alrighty, later today will be when Famiboards either celebrates harder than fans in the World Cup or turn this place into a nuclear holocaust from rage. Cya then folks :>

Not for FE4.
FE4 was never released outside of Japan, and it's one that fans have been clamoring for a remake (or at least even a localization) for quite some time

the ds games were remakes of fe1 & fe3, not fe4

The remakes were for FE1 and FE3 which were the Archanea games aka Marth's story. Which those remakes were Shadow Dragon and New Mystery of the Emblem. The latter never releasing internationally.
Oops, I my brain went and said "Final Fantasy" rather than "Fire Emblem".

Jesus fukken CHRIST I've been trying to play catch up since page 170 thirteen goddamn hours ago just from skimming. I don't need a summary, but holy hell. And I definitely won't be able to catch up as quick tomorrow morning, so I hope whoever does take the time to read this is just as excited

And don't forget about Zangeki no Reginleiv this time!
You! A man of culture! Yes please!

Hey all, glad to be with you even in spirit even with all the crazy shit I’ve been though and all the bad headaches I still get and they’re not hundred percent gone yet. Getting there but not quite. Thank you @Raccoon , @Dragoncaine, @LukasManak22 , @VolcanicDynamo , @Aurc , @merp, @Derachi USER=46]@Brofield[/USER] , @xghost777 , @Skittzo and @Plum for staying in contact with me. Really appreciate it.
Much love Legion 💜 Fingers crossed above all that the headaches will at least not plague you during the Direct itself

Y'all act like you never seen a Nintendo Direct before
Jaws all on the floor like Reggie just burst in the door.
...okay, now I get that this is a riff on Eminem, but for the last several hours I kept looping this in the head to the beat of "Open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur"

listen I really like monke and dinosaurs
Also a man of culture! Monke and dinosaurs!

No new Golden Sun
No new Punch Out
No new F-Zero
No new Star Fox
No new Mario Baseball
No new Donkey Kong
No new Wario Land
No new Custom Robo
No new Chibi Robo JK Chibi Robo sucks lol

Switch is dogshit confirmed
You take that back about Chibi Robo (even if it's only one good game, but that first game was real good.), but anyone who recognizes Custom Robo is a friend of mine.

Alright everyone, I've just updated the OP for what I expect to be the penultimate time. I'd like to close out my time as OP with some introspective remarks.

I've spent much of this year's hype cycles stewing in resentment of the regularity of the Nintendo news cycle and the precision with which some can now predict it. My mentality was one of chaos worship as I longed for the uncertain times for Nintendo news of years past. In addition to 2020, which I see as the height of these threads despite the lack of an actual Direct that year, Direct hype as we've come to understand it began in a very uncertain time for news about Nintendo Switch: the start of 2018. The first new year for Nintendo Switch brought with it great intrigue, as we didn't yet understand how the software composition of the platform would look in the years to come.

However, the past several days have brought me to the conclusion that my yearning for this feeling is misguided. What we all see embodied in @LukasManak22 is the maturation of Direct speculation: a robust commitment to facts, reason, and understanding of why Nintendo will do what and when. Yes, he knew exactly when the February Direct would be, as did many others, based on precedent alone. This week however will be a triumph for simple reasoning: there are no Nintendo games after Pikmin, and they need to have them announced by the financial briefing on Friday. It was cognizance of Nintendo that brought us here, not just a passive deference to patterns. I, for one, am very satisfied by how this story ends, though I wouldn't have said so mere weeks ago.

As I said before, Direct speculation has matured, both fundamentally and superficially. Our improved understanding of how Nintendo markets games represents a fundamental maturation of this endeavor, while the simple fact that we are now on-topic more than not represents immense superficial improvement. Indeed, the community finding a home has created a superior environment for both casual discussions and enthusiast ones like this. While the circumstances that led to its creation were obviously distinct from this, I have to thank @bellydrum for improving the activity of this community in an effort merely to save it.

As an aside, the third discussion topic that I previously alluded to felt unneeded and outright counterproductive as the thread gained momentum. While I consider the guided discussions great appetizers and their creation a success, this thread no longer has use for any guidance at all. Where we're going we don't need rails.

I hope that every last one of you gets something out of this week's Nintendo Direct. For the first time in a few years, I'm feeling excited myself.
Miyamoto, reading this, eyes squinting in disbelief, the urge to upend teatables rising over "maturing speculation"

(but for real I understand a great deal where you're coming from and I can empathize with this a great deal; hell it's why I flipped from September to June. I look forward to actively believing in something good happening and it coming to fruition.)

...#TeamJanuary4Lyfe tho

Lastly, I don't know who you are. I don't know what you originally typed nor if anyone saw what you wrote before deleting, but I just want to say: I appreciate your username, and as a fellow member of the TimeSplitters fanbase dear God I hope we get an announcement sooner rather than later.

Didn't this dude predict that Metroid Prime Remastered would be shadowdropped during the February 2023 direct? Or was that someone else?

I'd prefer the TTYD remaster too, but two Mario RPG remakes makes me think "Porque no los dos?"

he was also the first one to leak that Baten Kaitos picture that turned out to be real IIRC

I am glad to have an outlet for my hyperfixation here. You all make me realize I’m not alone on being excited about the allure and mystery of what Nintendo’s cookin’. Lots of fun speculation and jokes along the way, too. They really are the Willy Wonka of the games industry and it’s no competition. Regardless of what happens, this is all fun in its own right.

Could the majority of 2H new games this year be Mario? Baseball, Party, RPG, and 2D? While they save MP4, FE4R, and DK for next year? Of course a SMRPG remake isn't technically new and I'm sure there'll be other remasters/remakes (KIU, FZero, etc.), but that's kind of it seemingly for Switch, right? Since the next 3D Mario will likely launch NS2 next year I think.

It is weird exactly how many Mario games are seemingly piling up. In addition to the four you suggested we have had The Thousand Year Door HD suggested as well, plus Mario Kart and Mario Rabbids DLC, and guesses for a Mario party game. Pretty wild to think the last new Mario game announced was Strikers back in February of last year so there has been a huge dearth of Mario and suddenly a feast. Really interested to see what we get on the Mario front on Wednesday.

In the interest of kickstarting discussion, what game / announcement are you most excited about for the seemingly happening Nintendo Direct this week. This is not necessarily the announcement you most believe will be there, but one you want to see most that you do think has a good enough shot of being there.

For me, it’s 100% Metroid Prime 4. It has been six years since it was announced and all we have really is some Facebook art. It’s time to see it and at least get some sense what it is about as it is the next “big” Switch game with Zelda out.

For me, it is 100% Super Mario RPG HD or Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door HD. Both sound like a pipe dream and too good to be true

I'm leaning towards the rest of Nintendo's 2023 looking something like this atm

June - Everybody 1-2-Switch, MK8 DLC
July - Pikmin 4
August - Nothing
September - SMRPG Remake, Pokemon DLC
October - F-Zero GX HD, MK8 DLC
November - 2D Mario
December - Pokemon DLC

I think in this scenario the direct would open with 2D Mario and probably end with a Prime 4 reveal with a vague 2024 date, with Pikmin 4, SMRPG and Pokemon DLC getting dedicated sections in the middle to break up the headlines.

I didn't know you were European (I kinda assume most people on sites like here are in North America since I thought Europe had their own forums). I'm now relistening to your old posts (in my head) wherein you were so sure of things with a catty British accent .
But am not a Britain!

But for people who are there long enough I actually see a lot who is from which part of the planet based on their posts, especially in Direct threads. When there is morning here, it's night in USA so people who live there are not posting and viceversa. We are just changing the positions and make everything we can to let's the hype rolling.

Wouldn't be the first time. One of the Direct Minis ended off on Pokemon DLC, and I think the September 2019 Direct announced Polteageist and Cramorant
Pokémon hasn't been featured in a single Direct since the Pokémon Presents branding came into use. To show up in a Direct now would be a substantial change to the status quo.

I suppose that Prime 4 can appear in this Direct of they feel the need to have a already a big 2024 game

Also has a way to say "yes 2024 is still Switch era expect more switch software"

SMRPG remake. Even though I haven't played the original, I'm just excited for the return of a true Mario RPG. Plus, I need that Yoko Shimomura Mario music. It's been too long.

Pokémon Presents began in 2013. Pokémon has been in directs since then and no, not just NSO stuff. In March of 2020, sword and shield
Expansion pass information was in a Nintendo Direct Mini. Pokémon Snap was in the September 21’ direct. In fact, Pokémon is a regular in the September directs, and occasionally in the June ones (though typically based around E3), and often contains new news on the games.

You’re simply incorrect stating Pokémon news doesn’t happen in directs anymore. It’s actually quite common. They just don’t typically announce NEW Pokémon games in a direct anymore.

Either Prime 4 or 2D Mario for me. Extremely curious to see what they've come up with for the latter
