Fine with a SMTV Complete being a separate purchase cause that means I can have a version on a platform that can run it at a decent framerate

Apparently, greavard was leaked a bit before his reveal, on 4chan, double checked, not sure how long before the presentation he was leaked.

I just tried looking this up, and it appears that the 4chan description happened about 4 hours before Grevard's official reveal while Pyoro uploaded their pic about 6 hours before.

I don’t think FE shows up at all this year. They’ll keep trying to sell Engage.

Thing is, they got all of Engage's DLC out of the way quickly. Very quickly. And unless they announce a second expansion pass for Engage (which I very much doubt), it feels like Nintendo and IS were just trying to get Engage and its DLC out the door ASAP and then leave it at that.

That being said, while I would be pleasantly surprised to see FE at the upcoming Direct (if there is one of course), I'm still adamant that it'll be a September reveal with an early 2024 release.

Considering Baten Kaitos is a relatively niche JRPG remaster which was already showcased in a Direct in February, I could see them doing this shortly before the Direct to get ahead of the Direct noise, and only have a brief showing at the Direct in an ending sizzle reel with the release date.
BK would definitely be prime sizzle reel material, I don't think they'd show another whole trailer for it after it was already shown in the last Direct. So having a new trailer out now and then it being a brief mention in the Direct makes sense.

Probably because that seems to be Square's go to style for these types of remakes currently.
There have been plenty of SE remakes that do not make use of HD2D such as Actraiser Renaissance, Tactics Ogre Reborn, and the recent Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters. Only Team Asano has made use of the HD2D aesthetic for their games.

New 2D Mario would be exciting if it doesn't look identical to the NSMB style. I've grown tired of it in its entirety.

I know the rumor SNES title isn't Chrono Trigger, I know it isn't, but ooooooooooooooooooh my gooooooooooooooood would I lose my mind if it was X.X

Fair point. Although I wouldn't really count the Pixel Remasters because they are, well, only remasters and were kinda minimal effort :v

Edit: Obviously, they could go a totally different direction for SMRPG, you have a good point there.

I would love some HD2D games that aren’t turn-based rpgs.

Imagine an HD2D Mario platformer. Or maybe Zelda 2 remade into a modern game with the HD2D style.

I didn’t want potential fun discussion lost in the thread (especially if it closes tomorrow on announcement or just doesn’t happen) so I made a thread asking what people would want to see in a potential Mario RPG remake for those interested. Join in!

Not sure if it was mentioned in here yet (I was out of town all weekend) but the Mario Kart news channel started their series of track spotlights for Booster Pass Wave 4 on 6/16. This is a surefire notification that the Wave 5 announcement is coming very soon.

I think we’re at least a year or two off from CT getting a remake. Takeshi Tokita just wrapped up directing the Live A Live and he’d be the best candidate to direct a sequel. My personal expectation is that DQ 3 HD is being used to see how the Toriyama art style translates to HD-2D and they’ll tackle CT after that one. And the game has an anniversary coming up in 2025 or 2026 so it’d be really good timing.

That can't be accurate, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten the Twitter only Everybody's 1-2 Switch. I can't find anything about E1-2S on Youtube.

Fair point!

I feel it's SMT4 Complete instead of SMT5. What will they complete SMT5 with? It didn't get any substantial DLC. Few Mitama boosts and 2 lame sub quests. SMT4 "Complete" actually make sense, an HD release of both games in one package. Maybe even as a full game, like finish SMT4 and continue SMT4A with all the exp and demons you had in SMT4.

Oooohhhh baby let’s GO

this isn't a traditional time for one but I'm feeling Famicom/NES Remix 99

Hmmmm I’d play it!

Interesting, that's a good sign. Maybe the person who leaked it on 4chan and Pyoro had the same source.

I would laugh so hard if it turns out itsfuckingnothing.gif. I mean there probably is a direct but still.
I don't think there's ever been this much smoke that led to no Direct at all. We're getting something without a doubt.

Still thinking the "wonder" in the tweet means something, like maybe Wonder Project J. Watch us get a remake of that in English, and SMRPG just gets put on NSO. 😂

I'm going in skeptical and not expecting much.

Alright everyone, I've just updated the OP for what I expect to be the penultimate time. I'd like to close out my time as OP with some introspective remarks.

I've spent much of this year's hype cycles stewing in resentment of the regularity of the Nintendo news cycle and the precision with which some can now predict it. My mentality was one of chaos worship as I longed for the uncertain times for Nintendo news of years past. In addition to 2020, which I see as the height of these threads despite the lack of an actual Direct that year, Direct hype as we've come to understand it began in a very uncertain time for news about Nintendo Switch: the start of 2018. The first new year for Nintendo Switch brought with it great intrigue, as we didn't yet understand how the software composition of the platform would look in the years to come.

However, the past several days have brought me to the conclusion that my yearning for this feeling is misguided. What we all see embodied in @LukasManak22 is the maturation of Direct speculation: a robust commitment to facts, reason, and understanding of why Nintendo will do what and when. Yes, he knew exactly when the February Direct would be, as did many others, based on precedent alone. This week however will be a triumph for simple reasoning: there are no Nintendo games after Pikmin, and they need to have them announced by the financial briefing on Friday. It was cognizance of Nintendo that brought us here, not just a passive deference to patterns. I, for one, am very satisfied by how this story ends, though I wouldn't have said so mere weeks ago.

As I said before, Direct speculation has matured, both fundamentally and superficially. Our improved understanding of how Nintendo markets games represents a fundamental maturation of this endeavor, while the simple fact that we are now on-topic more than not represents immense superficial improvement. Indeed, the community finding a home has created a superior environment for both casual discussions and enthusiast ones like this. While the circumstances that led to its creation were obviously distinct from this, I have to thank @bellydrum for improving the activity of this community in an effort merely to save it.

As an aside, the third discussion topic that I previously alluded to felt unneeded and outright counterproductive as the thread gained momentum. While I consider the guided discussions great appetizers and their creation a success, this thread no longer has use for any guidance at all. Where we're going we don't need rails.

I hope that every last one of you gets something out of this week's Nintendo Direct. For the first time in a few years, I'm feeling excited myself.

This is 100% fake. He basically explains Jump Force, but less shit and by a different developer.

And even if it was real, Scamco wouldn't announce this in a Direct. They normally save these types of announcements for Sony's State of Plays.
Really? I'd have assumed that these anniversary celebration games first get announced in the physical magazine.

I do have a 2 hour train ride tomorrow morning. A Partner Showcase announcement and the forum melting down would make the ride more entertaining....

I don't envy anyone who has to sit through a full day before getting to that announcement.. in EST, thankfully, it's a sleep away

I know its unlikely, but I would love if we saw Budokai Tenkaichi 4 here before its, hopefully, shown at Bandai's showcase at Anime Expo. 15 years of waiting for a sequel to 3, I'm a bit antsy on the game lol

god I would do a lot for a 2 hour train ride rn

I get to wake up early to drive to the Amtrack station, get on the train for 2 hours, arrive at the office where I'll mostly just talk to coworkers and pretend I'm paying attention in meetings, eat the company's food, gets nothing substantial done, and then it's another 2 hour train ride back.

How do you not love Direct Season. So much better than playing games.
Yeah. The anticipation of the announcement of games we only know exist based on rumors and (informed) speculation—and the announcement of those announcements—has genuinely given me a greater dopamine rush than playing a game that I’ve waited 4 years for and waited in line for a questionably priced collector’s edition of. I’m starting to think I have a problem 😅.

That all being said, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed this rollercoaster of a month with you all, significantly more so than last summer, and it looks like the outcome will be even better as well. I’m going to bed now, but I’m looking forward to seeing you all bright and early tomorrow morning (or later today, depending on where you live) for the final stretch of this long, tumultuous journey.
