I don't remember exactly how it went down but weren't last summer's announcements basically weekly, smaller directs or treehouses for about a month? Something like a mini, Xenoblade 3 look, partner, treehouse or something.

I remember at the time, people were disappointed by the rollout, but when you put it all together, it was pretty substantial.

I bring this up because I just proactively want people to not give up too much hope if the direct this week is a little smaller than they are anticipating. Your good news may still be coming! It may just be spaced out more to digest.

I honestly feel like we've had more major third party announcements in Partner Showcases and Minis than in General Directs, especially recently. Like, Monster Hunter Rise and the Personas were announced in Partner Showcases, and we typically get at least a couple "low-tier" announcements at Generals

So by that logic General Direct confirmed
I don't really agree with this? I know major is relative, but stuff like the Level 5 trilogy of announcements, Octopath Traveler 2 reveal, the Live A Live Remake, and Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak were all revealed in general directs.

the Mario game will just be a video game based on this 5-second scene from the movie and will be the first ever $80 Nintendo game

To be clear about PapaGenos he just reports a whole lot on existing leaks and rumours, but IIRC he's never gone full-out "I am revealing the existence of Smash Ultimate Deluxe featuring Geno." At most he's stated why he believes something is happening instead of making a blanket declaration that he has insider info.

Headlines start rolling:
Direct Narrator Voice: “Microsoft’s coming to…get Jiggy with it?!?!”

Then they show off a new Dance Central (published by Microsoft) game with this song.

Game is designed to use the Joycons instead of the Kinect.

is there any evidence that that twitter account isn't just one of the ones that posts possible announcements en masse and then deletes the one that didn't pan out so it can claim to be legit months later?

and if it is seemingly legit, has anyone speculated the new mario could be called "super mario wonderland"? because that would be a fun title

Hey all, glad to be with you even in spirit even with all the crazy shit I’ve been though and all the bad headaches I still get and they’re not hundred percent gone yet. Getting there but not quite. Thank you @Raccoon , @Dragoncaine, @LukasManak22 , @VolcanicDynamo , @Aurc , @merp, @Derachi USER=46]@Brofield[/USER] , @xghost777 , @Skittzo and @Plum for staying in contact with me. Really appreciate it.
You're a cool dude, Legion. I'm deeply sorry to hear of your continued struggles, but I'm happy to see you checking in with us! Thanks for the shout, mate.

Apparently he heard the rumblings of an SMRPG remake since last week. Suspect, but he's also the guy who leaked MPR's shadowdrop and the promotional image for Baten Kaitos I&II
Yeah I remember he called those things. The Metroid Prime Remaster drop was crazy to think it was real

When I went to bed last night, I was feeling a General Direct or a Partner Mini.

Now with all this, I'm feeling a normal Mini Direct.

Tune in in 13 minutes to see how I'm feeling next.

Honestly I'd vibe with an artstyle like the movie. Fully 3D with detailed, lively and imaginative worlds. And of course butter smooth, fast paced platforming. Hoping to see more movement from the 3D games.

He also did say in the case it does get delayed again internally it could be held for an early 2024 direct.
Fingers crossed then I guess. It's time and we deserve at least some kind of teaser or update!

It's very possible that a new 2D Sonic and a new 2D Mario come out around the same time. Old people are gonna have a hell of a time.

I don't see Prime 4 this year either. H1 2024, possibly as the last flagship Switch title before Switch 2, is my prediction.

Assuming Nintendo doesn't "kick the can" on Smash by just announcing Smash Ultimate DX for Switch 2 with another round of dlc characters, the people crying for Geno will be drowned out for people wanting Mega Man, Cloud, Snake, Sora, Ryu, etc to all return.

Yeah that's kind of the thing isn't it? A little hard to imagine Geno making it in if the likes of Cloud, Hero and Sephiroth aren't present...

I find y'alls lack of faith disturbing. Prime 4 will be out before May next year and we'll see it tomorrow. I don't know how or why, I just know it Samust happen.

TBH after Metroid Prime Remastered was a shadowdrop, I can’t imagine any other Gamecube remakes not getting the same treatment. What a cool thing: here’s a brand new version of a thing you like, and you can play it right now.
The schedule is going to take priority though, so if there's a dry month they want to stick a remaster/remake in, but it's not a month with a direct, shadowdropping doesn't make much sense.

imagine an SMRPG remake announcement coming alongside an announcement that Geno is the first character in Fighters Pass 3
That'd be fantastic, bypass having to deal with Geno speculation.

Sort of. For base, the fanbase is just going to assume their characters are returning and then be shocked and outraged when they aren't, if they don't.

For DLC, the cut vets are going to take up a lot of the discussion, but there's no way people won't be talking about newcomers as well, and if SMRPG gets a remake, the Geno fans will have plenty of fuel.

I don't expect Three Hopes DLC... but what about a sequel?
Based on recent history and assuming no delaying factors (i.e. tied to new hardware and new hardware is delayed), I expect another Nintendo-exclusive Koei Tecmo title by the end of 2024. I don't have a guess if that's a third Hyrule Warriors, a third Fire Emblem Warriors, a fourth Marvel Ultimate Alliance, or a new Nintendo collaboration. I'll take any of them, and I think any Direct in the next 18 months could have the announcement. So, you have my sword/axe/lance!

hey, just came across this on twitter. is this true? for me it looks kinda fan-made, but you never know, with how things been going on lately.

I was just about to post this. I’ve seen multiple people tweet about it, so it’s most likely real. More fuel for the Direct fire. We’re almost there baby

Real or not, we're due for the full reveal of this expansion and Ubisoft's marketing for it has been picking up. This is already on my list of things that has a high likelihood of being shown in the Direct.

When will we stop thinking about a mini direct? We had like 2 in the entirety of the switch life and they both were early year direct, one during the pandemic era which we should start thinking as non canon. I get that people got hugely burned during last year june partner's direct but last time we knew it would be a partner's direct like 2 weeks before it, we're 2 days away now and we're hearing big mario rumours, why should it be a mini direct?

I guess the good news is that we will likely know tomorrow whether we should expect a general.

To be fair, setting expectations for a mini doesn't mean setting expectations for a bad direct. We've had minis (partners included) that have been better than some general directs.

If SMRPG gets a "remake" I can see it going both ways:

  • a fairly simple 2DHD ish remake with some QOL improvements
  • a more ambitious 3D remake with graphics like Mario x Rabbids, completely rethought mechanics, unique cutscenes etc.

Personally hoping for the latter, and I'm also hoping they're looking for a way to revive the non-paper RPG games (which aren't really RPGs anymore, anyway)
