If we’re getting a new 2D Mario announced, it can’t be a Mini, right? That seems like way too big of a game to shadow drop, especially at the height of Mario Movie hype

Sorry I’m just bugged out of my mind that in 2023 we might actually get an announcement about a Super Mario RPG remake.

I was one of those big Geno truthers during the Smash Ultimate DLC cycle (COVID made me a little squirrely) so to see that come full circle (well …kind of) feels so surreal

so does Mario RPG remake kill the chance of TTYD remastered?
No but if it's real and it does happen this year, then TTYD remaster is definitely not this year.
But you never know with Square Enix. They co-own the game, they might have asked Nintendo to reveal it years prior, like how they did with Dragon Quest 3 remake lol.

The more news we get the more my anxiety rises while i do love me some 2d mario , no one is mentioning Metroid Prime 4 anymore, going to hurt for it not to show up again :/

can't wait for the freak out when some random spirte is altered to be more in line with mario standards and people talk about "The mandate"

This just happened to pop up the day after RGT85 criticized Zippo for the endless rumormongering on the Spawncast this Saturday. Throughout the podcast they repeatedly said Nate might appear, so Zippo was probably listening in to piggyback on any Nate teases and instead gets insulted by RGT85, hence the blog post.

Ok can you send me that clip of Zippo eating shit? I really wanna see

DQ3 remake was announced at their own event with no systems announced yet

Can someone please teach me to not be disappointed if Metroid Prime 4 doesn't show up?
I wish I could help you, but I can’t even help myself with this.

So many people will breath a sigh of relief at the announcement of a direct tomorrow, while all 84 of us Metroid fans will just start to sweat.

I don’t think so. TTYD could be a shadowdrop, with Super Mario RPG Remake coming in November/December.
A remaster of TTYD can be done by almost anyone while Mario RPG remake is almost certainly being done by Square Enix. TTYD remaster could be good 2024 schedule filler in the same way the M+L remakes were for late 3DS.

If the Mario RPG rumors are true then the "Geno in Smash" demands are never going to die until it happens.

This is the only straight-up "it's a Mini" we've gotten, but even then it's got the caveat of "I'm extrapolating from third-party stuff":

Shouldn’t count as we haven’t had a major internal Nintendo leak in over a year and a half(everybody 1,2 switch… whose release wasn’t leaked should say a lot). So nobody’s got too much till marketing material leaks or it goes up on the backend in some form

Headlines start rolling:
Direct Narrator Voice: “Microsoft’s coming to…get Jiggy with it?!?!”

Phil Spencer: Hey, Nintendo fans. Phil Spencer from Xbox.

Four years ago, we worked with our incredible partners at Nintendo to put Banjo-Kazooie into Super Smash Brothers Ultimate as download content.

Last year, we also saw the return of the original Nintendo 64 release come back to Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack.

The iconic duo turns 25 years old next week, so we are pleased to share with you, on this Nintendo Direct, the next look into the newest entry in the Banjo franchise.”

I’ll stop there I can’t lmao BUT WHAT IF

Nate seemed pretty confident about it releasing this fiscal year, maybe even calender year. If they won't show it this week, they will in September.
I just feel like Metroid is more of “June-level” announcement, if that makes sense. I can’t picture Prime 4 re-reveal being in September. A new trailer, sure. But that would be the second trailer, with this week hopefully being the first.

Don't do that. Don't give me hope.

Thanks. I don't think you can conclude what type of Direct is happening from the quality of third party announcements. It's all old shit, weeb shit, or old weeb shit regardless of whether there is a general Direct, Mini or Partner Showcase.
Who knows. Even Jeff had a similar take.

TBH after Metroid Prime Remastered was a shadowdrop, I can’t imagine any other Gamecube remakes not getting the same treatment. What a cool thing: here’s a brand new version of a thing you like, and you can play it right now.

I'm highly skeptical about a SMRPG remake but it would certainly be a crazy announcement.

New 2D Mario is great even if I'm disappointed we probably won't see DK again.

Yeah, it's definitely a June type game anc I don't know how to explain why. It just feels right, 6 years after its E3 reveal.

I dunno they may look at the sales and feel a regular release is a better idea

I honestly feel like we've had more major third party announcements in Partner Showcases and Minis than in General Directs, especially recently. Like, Monster Hunter Rise and the Personas were announced in Partner Showcases, and we typically get at least a couple "low-tier" announcements at Generals

So by that logic General Direct confirmed

I don't really agree with this. I think Prime Remastered launched the way it did because Nintendo knew there was an audience for it and because they'd already devalued the game by releasing the Trilogy package.

People asked for Prime for years and rumours had abounded for most of the Switch's life, after all, so Nintendo had a sense that people would be willing to pay for it. While we've seen GX and TTYD rumours here, they don't have the industry wide coverage that Prime leaks/demands got, or the kind of coverage potential Zelda ports have had. I think Nintendo know they'd have to do more work for stuff like Paper Mario and (especially) F ZERO to get an audience. I also expect they'll end up being full price releases like every other remaster.

With Zelda, if they come, I can't see Nintendo backing away from their approach to it as a prestige title. Even the very divisive Skyward Sword remaster got a 5 month lead in, amiibo and joycons, after all.

you know what

these are all great points

Keep Mario and Donkey Kong separate please. I'll accept the sports, mini games, and Mvs.DK, but keep their main franchises far away from each other as possible. DK is big enough to stand on its own without needing that plumber franchise absorbing it.

Nate just tweeted it’s a “possibility not certainty” for this FY, so I wouldn’t read that as pretty confident
Possibility is better than nothing. But I just want to see the damn thing. That’s literally it. Show me a trailer. Something! Anything! Please!

What did PapaGeno’s say?
Essentially he's received multiple DMs from someone (that he doesn't know) throughout the last few weeks that said that there is a Mario RPG remake and that it would most likely be revealed at a direct near the end of June, which all lines up with what the current rumblings are.
