I skate to where the puck is going to be, not where it has been. And we’ve always tried to do that at Team June, since the very very beginning. And we always will.

bizarre thing to say when you've aligned yourself with what they've almost always done in the past
Many people said that June Direct is tied to E3, so it is not really a same thing. It's different. Not to mention the "it's quiet on insider front" as some would say.

June: Mini Direct confirming MINI games like F ZERO GX HD and 51 Worldwide Classics 2
July: Mario Direct confirming MARIO IS 2D AGAIN BUT NOT LIKE LAST TIME, Dr Mario 99, Paper Mario Shut Up Whining Edition, and Luigi's Mansion Maker

In an alternate timeline we would all be making are bingo cards for the upcoming E3 Direct. I wish we weren't always guessing when the next direct will be.

where did the sudden "mp4 wont be crossgen" wave come from? i thought most people accepted that it made sense lol.
I just never felt there was any reason to believe Metroid Prime 4 was crossgen. We don't even know anything about the next system yet.

The Heart:
PRAISE @LukasManak22 ! June Direct! Switch 2 announcement! Beautiful new 2D Mario! Zelda Enormous Sky Islands And New Towns DLC!

The Mind:
2022 style Twitter trickle. Switch Mini. Mario Kart DLC. Splatoon DLC. Zelda Have Some Extra Identical Looking Shrines You Fucks DLC.

I’ve seen a lot of people (not just in this thread) talk about games being cross gen… MP4, new Mario, TotK (previously)

In my mind, saying a game is cross gen implies that there would be two separate versions of the game, with slight differences. Graphical fidelity, performance improvement etc. on the two different systems.

Personally I don’t think there will be any ‘cross gen’, only backwards compatibility (with some performance patches for select games).

Anyone else?

I like to hope that Nintendo just adopts the Xbox Smart Delivery model. No worrying about what version to get, or if there’s an upgrade or whatever. If you own TOTK, it just installs the correct version for what hardware you own.

I'm hoping for this too. If the Switch 2 isn't backwards compatible at all then Nintendo is setting themselves up for another Wii U disaster imo

This is interesting, but I think including numbers from across multiple platforms skews the data a bit because of drastically differing install bases and attach rates.
Oh 100%. The only way to get the right data per franchise is to do some magic mathematics on the games with a weighted average based on the total sales numbers of the console it was on. Which would also mean that some things would be... interesting as you have games also in packs like Super Mario All-Stars or Metroid Prime Trilogy and I am crazy but not that crazy :p.

Monster Hunter is the best thing on the Nintendo Switch tbf

Generally it is a problem in entertainment, where people atribute everything in a film/game/etc to one person.
This reminds me of this classic gem:

It's always funny when companies play it coy because of legal mumbo jumbo but still have to give enough information so that everyone knows what they're talking about. Kinda like when you censor a swear word by removing just one letter.

I really want to play super mario rpg, nintendo doesn’t make snes classics anymore so I can’t buy one. They shut down the Virtual console that sold it so I can’t buy it from them. Why don’t they want me to play this game?

"Job posting means it's only just starting development"

someone is gonna say this won't they?
Kyoto, yesterday probably, and Miyamoto, bleary-eyed and sore-headed, wakes up from the Switch Success Party Nintendo have thrown every other day since late 2017, and makes eye contact with a stoned Koizumi, who is checking his phone calendar

Koizumi: Fuck man, it's 2023! This thing's been out for seven years! gestures vaguely at a Switch on the floor, the screen still covered in lines of coke

Miyamoto: wipes nose Time to make a new one.

I’m sure Nintendo would love for you to be able to play it

SQUARE ENIX HOWEVER

This isn't too far above MSRP, you can find other sales like this.

No but I do think 2024 is kinda a hard lock at this point
I think Nikkei said the same not too long ago; that development-wise everything was going smoothly but it wouldn't launch until next year.

Quick edit: yep, I remembered correctly

I think the big question re: new hardware is now “is it coming out in March 2024 or November 2024”

but also this is the direct thread so let’s stay on topic
team june lets go

Thanks, definitely more than I want to pay just to play mario rpg, but it doesn’t seem to be coming to nso any time soon, and i dont pirate games. So maybe I’ll bite the bullet lol

not that it really needed to be said but uh

I don't think it's coming in 2023 lol

I don't think a new Switch is coming this year but it's important to note that the job posting includes language about handling and correcting post-release defects. Basically they're just looking to hire more people to work in their hardware development division who are always doing work in the background whether it's for an existing console, one that is coming out soon, or one that is coming out 6 years from now. It's like with game development. Development doesn't start when the full team is place. Companies are always hiring and people in and out the middle of projects.

Forgot it was only last month we had Nikkei saying spring 2024 at the earliest. Pre-Zelda and post-Zelda time periods are entirely different spheres of reality for me.

Guess now is as good a time as any to suck it up and grab an mClassic if nothing is changing on the hardware front lol

If you going to get an mClassic ends up triggering Nintendo announcing ReDraketed, i want you to know that i will always cherish your financial sacrifice.

Honestly at that point I don't think I'd even be mad, just impressed that this is what it took after all this time lmfaooo

I wonder when pre-orders for the new system will open up... maybe 3ish months before release, like the switch? I need to prepare myself for watching 5+ tabs and constant refreshing.

yeah I am not missing out this time around

I'll write a god damned scalping bot for a single console if I have to

preorders will probably open in like September 2024, maybe late August

Maybe it will be like Wii U where I can just walk right in on launch day and buy it without a pre-order.

Prepare to be fighting bots online, or ladies who wanna have a rooftop Switch 2 party at retail.

One way or another, you'll be fighting. ^^

(Knowing my luck it just means Marseille will announce the mClassic 2 a week after I can no longer refund it lol)

I just hope I'll have enough leeway to save up ahead of time for this. Shit's gonn be esspenseeve.

Can...can I get in on the scalping bot if necessary? 👀 I've been lucky before securing my launch Switch and Zelda CE but I don't necessarily believe that luck will keep going now haha

In retrospect, it's kind of telling how much the Wii fell off in popularity by 2012 that there weren't tons of scalpers trying to capitalize on something with the Wii brand on it with the release of the Wii U.

I always thought the Wii was an unmitigated success but it such had a severe drop after the first half. I think even if the Wii U were called Wii 2 and had much clearer marketing, the Wii brand was mostly dying at that point and there probably wouldn't have been such a fever to buy one as there was in the Wii's first year.
