StarTopic The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |ST| Linkin' Parts (Please Tag All Spoilers)

I definitely prefer the overall look and feel of Zonai tech and architecture to Sheikah, it's a nice calming feel.
The zonai architecture feel reminds me of Starwars High republic era(white/gold colours). And since im totally into those books it was nice having such a vibe in Zelda.

Sheikah tech and colourscheme is more idk...scrappy feeling and gloomy. I know it is based on old pottery but still

can someone please point me where is Hestu is located? i already unlocked the entired central Hyrule map and still has not found him.

The color scheming of the Shrines is so much pleasing then breath of the Wild.

Anyone feel the same way? I also like the spiral to identify them in the overworld. Clearly done for the Sky launch and traveling. Very nice art direction
The locations of many shrines, this time around, also seems to be easier to spot from the air and more difficult to spot from the roads.

I also like that
the light roots correspond to shrines on the surface; my first trip to the Depths led me to a shrine in Central Hyrule I hadn't spotted.

I thought I was doing well when it comes to finding caves, but I just got to the point where you are told how many caves there are left to be discovered and holy crap. There are a ton of them and I suck at exploring.

There are plenty of new jams, but if you're looking for some bombastic hook I'd stop worrying about it and let it hit you whenever it does.
Yeah you're right, BotW took a while to unveil it's jams as well (although that had fresh town themes ofc.). Sometimes I need some time to get my bearing on something new.

Also good suggestion!
Jesus fucking Christ.
I entered the cave under
Lookout Landing
expecting a small tunnel or something. Ended up after 90 minutes in
Hyrule castle.
Insanity!
I finished it but never found the exit on the other side - wouldn't mind a hint :p. They hid the path forward in those very well!

I can give a hint that will make it easier for you to find caves. It is a bit of spoiler but the smallest kind of one.

Playing through the game, I'm wondering how much Age of Calamity influenced this game or how much Age of Calamity knew of certain things even if they didn't know how it was implemented. I actually want to replay Age of Calamity after finishing this game to see how they relate. Gameplay wise the Monster Control missions and other things feel like there was a slight interest in putting actual battles in this game. Story wise...

The fact that time powers are used in both games (even if it's through a robot in Age of Calamity) and are associated with Zelda makes me wonder if that game was getting us ready for the idea of Zelda doing some time travelling in this one.

This game man...this game.
Visited Eventide Island and I was kind of surprised
there was no shrine.
Until I discovered
the cave with a freaking pirate ship in it.
So so good.

Ok, I have to vent:

I hated the second face of the Water Temple boss, and because the boss killed me, the game erased the pic that I took. F u game.

I’ve found a few pieces of armor. Making me enjoy the game now sinde everything I’ve been finding when exploring is just materials which does nothing for me.

Last couple chests. Some pants. Hopfully some upper armor now. Still no climbing gear tho 😞

I know there are a million more interesting contraptions and gameplay bits people are coming up with, but I can't help posting this screenshot. This bit getting between two sky islands was so cool. The rush when something works so well is just incredible.

You're right, it really does seem similar!! (I still need to read The Fallen Star, tried twice but it just wasn't sticking with me like the first two did)

I think I know. I have used it once, but never again. I will use it again down the line when I am done checking the whole map out.

It's the cherry tree thing using the Satori, right?

I'll take all the arrows I can get lol

I'm always running on empty
I was like that until I started smashing every wooden box I see. Now I always have more than 100.

But yeah, I will happily take arrows from chest.

Speaking of which, perhaps it's the way I am playing the game, but this time around I feel happier when I find good weapons inside chests. Maybe the game is harder than Breath of the Wild or it forces you to engage in combat more frequently. I don't know. Whatever it is, I'm happy with it.

EDIT: Damn. Accidental double post. Sorry!

I happily take arrows from chest because it means I won't have to drop a weapon/shield/bow to get shrine completion

I have a question regarding horses, if anyone knows the answer. Shouldn’t really be a spoiler, but putting in it a spoiler tag just in case:
Is the BotW save data transfer for your horses a one time thing, or if I go get a new horse in BotW after already having started TotK will that new horse also appear in TotK when I load the game next? I realized I never got Link’s default horse in BotW despite meaning to, so I dunno if it’s worth going back to BotW to get it there to make sure I also have it in TotK, assuming that can even work.
Alternatively, if that’s not the case, does anyone know if/where Link’s default horse from BotW can be found in TotK?

I doubt it has been documented but I can only assume that save updates are not reflected.

All of the larger cave networks leave me thinking "lol wut". Insane how large optional caves and wells can be.

Damn, if that’s the case I really should’ve taken care of that before TotK came out…

Is it known if Link’s default horse from BotW (the one that looks like his horse from the official art and amiibo, and the one that Link gets during the final boss in BotW if the player hasn’t registered any horses yet) can be found in TotK like it could in BotW, and if so, where?

Also, is there any way to change the order of your registered horses?

Horses continue to be a joke, and are even more so now in a game where you make rocket cars and carry a proper sled on your back.

Yeah I run out of arrows way faster in this game than BOTW, keep having to buy them from stores too. The Depths don't help in that regard since arrows are heavily encouraged to light it up.

Okay, I don’t care about that though.

I’m asking because I want to have all the special horses from BotW, and I already have a naming scheme for them (aside from Epona), after the Golden Goddesses; I named the special white horse that looks like Zelda’s horse Nayru, the special giant black horse that resembles Ganondorf’s Din, and I was going to name Link’s default horse Farore but I never got around to actually finding and registering that one, but since those other two plus Epona carried over to my TotK save, I’d like to complete the set in TotK (and BotW), if possible. I’m gonna be really bummed if I missed my chance to get Link’s default horse in TotK, though…

Also, it looks like there’s a new special horse in TotK (the golden horse), and since there’s conveniently a fourth Goddess (Hylia), I already have a name for that one, too! lol

Holy shit. So I wanted to help a Korok to find their friend, but it was so far away and naturally, I had to come to a good solution. So I built a catapult using a long array of sticks, a huge plank and a stabiliser zonai device and just hurled them into the air hoping for the best. and lo and behold, they literally landed exactly where their friend was.

I love this game, sharing these kinds of stories will be something people will do years from now. Was a brilliant decision to go in this direction.

They did a great job falling into the depths when you find a chasm.

I’m afraid of heights so the falling with the darkness got to me the first time lol. I was like “oh no, Link is gonna die!” And kept activating the Paraglider every second

See, we’re not just torturing the Koroks! We’re just making the optimal way to get them to their friend! /s

No but seriously dragging their asses with vehicles/creations are far faster than just carrying them.

Did the Rito and Zora dungeons back to back to get some actual story progress going. Absolutely loved the Rito questline and Wind Temple.

Not sure if I want to do the Goron or Gerudo one next, though.

I definitely tried to jump in without a paraglider and murdered myself.

It took like 8months to read Rising Storm... And Fallen star took some time as well but it really ramped up later. Must say that reading some comics help me visiualizing the characters and appreciate their other adventures as well.

Now the second phase is about events 100years before the 1st phase books. Im at the first book of that phase and that is very nice and different from the 1st phase books. Just a different feel.

Are the side adventures where you take on enemy camps with a bunch of dudes who do fuck all except distract you fixed level enemies? I am still early game, have like 5 hearts and basic armour, and I wandered into one with black moblins and bokoblins who can one-shot me. I'm gonna be real - it fucking sucked and I hate those idiots!

If only I was better at building :( When you say a proper sled on your back, do you mean shield surfing? I can't imagine the sleds are good for anything other than flat terrain.

I love how there is variations in the soundtrack for shrines depending what kind of shrine it is. For example, Proving Grounds have a prelude combat shrine theme whereas a traditional puzzle solving shrine has your usual shrine theme.

Also, proving grounds is so much fun I love it lol.

I'll be the exception and say that I do miss the Sheikah asthetic. The Zonai one is nice and all but a bit on the bland side for me

Still really solid but not up to the high standard set by the Sheikah asthetic

Think I'm starting to hit the wall unfortunately. There's still plenty of game left for me, but I'm running out of steam pretty quickly. Feels like I've seen most of everything the game has to offer at this point, and while I absolutely love Ultrahand I don't have the creative urge to keep playing for the sake of building weird shit.

I'm gonna get all of the Shrines, as many armor pieces as I can, and fight some overworld bosses that I've skipped over, but the sense of wonder from the first 30 hours or so is starting to disappear for me. Hopefully I run into something that reinvigorates that.

80 shrines in and probably close to 80 hours of gameplay and I finally made it to Hateno.

Plus, I still have two regions of the map to reveal.

Did the Zora quest line front to back tonight; that’s my third temple down. I think it was my least fave so far but I still enjoyed its unique mechanics and love the Zora characters! Gerudo up last. I’ve barely even set foot in that region now that I think of it. I feel like I can’t wait but I need to sleep because I am WEAK unlike Link who can free solo some serious shit for 40 hours straight

Rauru’s Blessing shrines have maybe the best aesthetic in all of Zelda, ever.

I'm starting to feel a little bit disappointed with the game. Sorry for the rant but I have to express my issues with the game here.
The Hebra labyrinth was interesting, I don't know if it will be the same for the others but I liked having to go from the mainland to the sky and then to the depths. However, having to beat a miniboss that isn't even unique and get a piece of armor that comes from BotW disappointed me a lot. And that's where the comparison with Elden Ring comes in: in Elden Ring that kind of content would have resulted in getting a whole new piece of gear and a special type of boss, not a "bigger" mini boss that we already find in the sky. This shows my only two issues with the game so far: 1. The majority of the armors I've found is from BotW and clearly after 6 years I would have hoped for something better than the Ganondorf outfit or the link outfits from the previous games when exploring the depths, and although they've increased the number of enemies it's still far too little for the huge world they have created, it results in the same problem that BotW had.

This game, and Breath of the Wild to a lesser extent, are some of the only games where the stuff you find in chests generally feels useful. Don't agree at all that the only compelling rewards are unique items.

Elden Ring reused bosses constantly and had tons of stuff that was irrelevant because it didn't work with one's build. Maybe this is a problem no open world game can totally solve, but I don't agree with your comparison.

Finally started the Goron quest after a hefty dose of sky island hopping and

depths exploration.

I guess now I know why

there was no official artwork released for Yunobo at launch like there was for the other 3. It’s a glow up as far as I’m concerned

I loved the process of that labyrinth to death and found the whole experience wonderful, but I admit I felt a bit similar at the ending of it. Especially when I found out that it's not even upgradeable.

But the criticism of rewards being somewhat mediocre at times for the amount of effort it takes to get them is something that's come up a fair bit both for BOTW and this game, and I agree. It's overall a fairly minor complaint, as I feel like the 'journey' is so good that the reward is actually less important than it would be in a lot of other games. But I do agree that I feel that, sometimes.

Are the side adventures where you take on enemy camps with a bunch of dudes who do fuck all except distract you fixed level enemies?
(side adventure spoilers) You can guide the monsters into focusing on the other guys. And I think yes, the levels are fixed. Did one of those missions pretty early in my game and it was also the first time I encountered the black variety.

Used an extremely dumb strategy to lift the wagon out of the pit that I have since extended to multiple shrines

You can't lift the wagon out of the pit from the top because Ultrahand doesn’t reach far enough. But if you attach crates to the top of the wagon, you can grab the wagon by the attached crates, which are within Ultrahand range, and pull the wagon out with Ultrahand by the crates

I am wrapping up the Fire Temple and, sorry traditional dungeon Stans, I continue not to care that these aren't structured exactly like the older games. The build up, story context, visual design, environmental context, scale and enormity of these dungeons is miles ahead of anything else in the series. The only thing I would want is for them to be a bit longer, but it's a minor complaint when they've nailed everything else

Now that we have a recipe log, it would've been nice to have a feature where you can read the recipe posters in the stables to have them added to the log. I know I'm being lazy and I should just write them down or screenshot them, but it can sometimes be difficult to make out the textures, especially for elixirs made with insects.
