StarTopic The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom |ST| Linkin' Parts (Please Tag All Spoilers)

Zelda team really needs to start having more of these conversations voiced.

Not asking for 100 percent but give the VA some love here lol.

I didn't think arrows were that great as a chest reward but after immediately regretted that since I use arrows WAY more than I did in Botw. I'm constantly low on arrows in this game so I'll take any from crates and chests lol.
Same. When it's 10x arrows I give a solid fist pump. I now compulsively break every box and container in the off-chance that they hold arrows.

For me it's the opposite. I was constantly buying up all of Beetles arrow supply in botw, but in this game I have plenty.

Is anybody going to be stuck playing this game for the rest of the year like me? I only get a few hours here and there and I feel like I’ll be playing until September before I finish the game…
I get a decent amount of time to play and I still feel that way. I've knocked out the geoglyphs and the Rito phenomenon. And I still feel like I've barely started. There's so much I want to do I get decision locked and wind up just exploring.

The Goron questline became awesome out of nowhere
Of course we have a flying hovercraft against a volcano monster, why not? Interested to see about this evil looking Zelda too. It's really interesting how people mention seeing Zelda in all these weird spots.

Course of action from now on:

  • wrap up the stamps I've made around Hebra and Tabantha
  • definitely progress the geolyph quest
  • maybe visit Lookout Landing to see if anything has changed
  • poke around the Depths more
  • Head to Necluda to check out Kakariko and Hateno

As long as you’re enjoying it that’s fine. Don’t rush it!

Boss spoiler
That fighter jet sequence is incredible. I even managed to weave through enemy fire to land my own hit in, like something out of Top Gun. Great boss.

poke around the Depths more
I’ve basically spent my evening gaming time exploring the Depths and it is so much better with (ability spoiler) Tulin’s ability to blow gusts forward. Once I get the Lightroots lit up I can check the map and search for interesting looking landmarks, and I find that has beem way more enjoyable than scrambling around in the dark.

His goofy little physics minigame is so so fun. I like overcomplicating it. One time I trapped him inside a wooden box and realized that while it solved the sign problem I couldn't talk to him to clear the sidequest haha.
I simply parked a wagon under it once and was giggling uncontrollably when it worked. I have yet to succeed doing the same with a horse.

That site is unreliable to begin with, as people have different views for what each category should contain, but it's not also uncommon for games to get "review bombed" with low play times there. I saw a screenshot of 100% completion at ~100 hours for TotK, yeah I'm sure they collected all of the Koroks within that time 🙄.
I know it's not 100% reliable but 50 hours sounds pretty plausible for a game this size.

Ngl, playing TotK I cannot even imagine ever getting tired of this Zelda iteration. The way they expanded BotW's Hyrule I can only imagine what they could do beyond its borders.

I find it amusing how nonexistent glitch or bug videos are for this game lol.

Lots Recent triple AAA games have had videos show casing issues and this one where I felt it might be the case cuase of how physics and creative you can get would results in breaking it. Hasn’t really happen.

I wonder if devs will talk about it. Sounds like it’s a tightly built game but I’m no developer so I could be wrong.

This game must have a similar hidden XP system to Breath of the Wild because I feel like the enemies and their equipment all got stronger at once.

Yeah, I think it scales up in a similar way to BotW - when you have a certain amount of hearts, black and silver enemies starts to show up. I’ve reached the point of silver boss bokoblins - not fun!

I was watching the world record speedrun yesterday. It was much less centered about glitch exploits than BotW, instead it was more focus on finding hidden powerful gemstones to fuse strong weapons with.

I don't see how this game isn't the best game I've ever played. My goodness.

Even super short and tiny quests where you need to follow a floating trail of brightblooms through the water to find a man trapped in a cave are beyond incredible.

How long to beat says 50 hours to play through the main story.
I caved in, started to play instead of waiting for the summer holidays. I am at 22 hours and I haven't completed even one of the regional missions, let alone open the map. I have barely glimpsed at the chasms.
Instead I wander aimlessly from "Hey what's that" to "Hey look that" with a lot of Game Overs in my map already.
And I am loving it. Absolutely loving it. It might be the best game since I was a teen and could feel more joy than adults can. Absolutely fantastic.
I even love the president Hudson supporter. Perfect minibytes.

Zelda team are wondersmiths. And I am really happy to be Nintendo fanboy again at 42.
50 hours? I'm probably 60 hours in and I've completed maybe a quarter to a third of the game. I will probably bang out two of the main quest points with another 20 hours of gameplay though. Which, yes, is quick for the standard I've been playing at lmao. But I won't be surprised if come tomorrow night I have failed to complete 1 of them because I got sidetracked. It's inevitable.
Did the Rito dungeon. Loved the boss fight.

Nice to have it confirmed Zelda is the Sage of Time again, like I thought

There must be so much to do in this game. Can't decide what to do next; there's an entrance to the Depths I skipped past, and there's several treasures down there for me to collect. I've also got some shrines marked around Hebra, and want to continue the geoglyph quest, so I might do that stuff first and then try a big expedition into the Depths through the week.
That's the damn beauty of the game now isn't it. I had the same "issue" as you did and I've just been trekking away. I'm enjoying everything I see while completing side quests in the process. Not really going out of my way. If you go to the depths just know you're going to be there for a long time lol.

I love how connected everyone feels now and it's such a nice contrast from BOTW's solo adventure. I love the
monster control team missions and fighting with the different groups [\spoiler].

And I adore how it feels like there's and stuff going on everywhere now. It truly feels alive.

I’ve done 72 shrines and unlocked the full map and I STILL haven’t come across a dang Lynel yet.
I came across 3 or 4 of em. One of which I ascended up to without even knowing. I didn't look around before deciding to plop out of the ground. Music changed and a big whole health bar came on the screen. I noped the fuck out of there with 1 heart. One lynel was a complete surprise to me though. I won't say where but yeah lol.

I came across one very early on, when I still only had like 6 hearts or 7, and with a total defense of around 14.
I started to stress but then I was reminded that they never attack first when it was just looking at me lol

It’s happened. I’ve maxed out my stamina. Now I can only upgrade boring ol’ hearts.

Also (major spoilers about the Depths which has vastly improved my opinion on them) I think beelining for the lightroots and revealing the map is the way to go for me. Found a couple of interestimg landmarks which netted me the two articles of Link’s classic outfit, as well as an overworld encounter with the final boss of the Rito dungeon! That was really cool and it got me my most powerful weapon this far.

I love the
monster control team missions
Those were really cool and I appreciated them a lot more after going through Lurelin haha.

Proving grounds shrines are some of the best things in all of gaming.
Honestly if Nintendo can patch in more of those, it would be great.

I thought this was the case but recently in BOTW I definitely had them shoot shock arrows at me from a distance when I didn't even draw my weapon, so I'm never entirely sure - I think they treat the camera as a weapon? I give them wide berth anyway, and I've only seen one so far in TOTK.

I can give you a hint on where to find the third one if you want because I’m absolutely certain you didn’t just stumble upon it

My one issue with shrines is that there is a certain area on the map where I feel lacks them. However, I could just be blind.

I just can't be bothered to engage with tinkering puzzles... Building stuff feels too much like work to me.

Also, am I correct in thinking that
Akkala Citadel
still doesn't have an interior outside of the little cave? That's kinda weird.

Anyways, Turbo is an excellent addition to the cast. Also, Hyrule exploration feels surprisingly fresh in Eldin!

Still haven't heard any new jams, seems like that's reserved for the main quest.

It's mindblowing how much people seem to be underutilizing Recall.

It's the most useful ability, almost to the point of being broken.

Missing Revali's Gale?
Use Recall.

Regret flying your Wing in that direction?
Use Recall.

Accidentally drop your creation off a cliff?
Use Recall.

Did a bridge you're standing on start to crumble? Use Recall before it drops.

Need more height from a balloon? Recall to the apex of the previous lift, dropping and repeating, until you're battery's full again, and restart the balloon back at the apex.

There are plenty of new jams, but if you're looking for some bombastic hook I'd stop worrying about it and let it hit you whenever it does.

Also, if you're looking for music to reinterpret or reharmonize, why not make a "jam-ified" version of some slower music from the OST?

I've probably either crossed or just about hit the 25 hour mark by now; enough playtime to complete or nearly complete most games in the series.

I did this to save myself from half a dozen powerful enemies; great stuff.

Now this I need to remember and apply. Neat!

Proud to say I thought of this myself whenever I decided to really start experimenting with Recall.

You can go way, way fucking high with this method.

Honestly I almost feel Recall should have maybe been tweaked a bit more because I cannot imagine the devs intended for it to be this cheesy. It’s basically an in-game save scum and the time period is a crazy long amount (plus you can use the Ultrahand grab while Recall is still going). I’m not complaining because it’s hella fun to experiment with but if it returns in the next game I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s nerfed.

recall is so insane that you kinda forget what it can do. I usually use it when I run into a big enemy that chucks things that will one hit me. Other than that I try not to abuse it. Like in shrines you can just cheese that recall with ease. I make an effort to avoid recall for solving puzzles if possible.

Jesus fucking Christ.
I entered the cave under
Lookout Landing
expecting a small tunnel or something. Ended up after 90 minutes in
Hyrule castle.
Insanity!
Never gets old seeing people discover the Big Cave

Heck I’m still surprised how often I discover Medium Caves

I found several of them, but I think they were all in the depths, which is even more terrifying.

Actually the first lynel I found in the entire game was a white-mane lynel in an area I'm 100% sure I shouldn't have been in yet and have yet to go back to.

One minor criticism I have with the shrines in this game compared with the ones from BotW, is that in this game I feel like I have to spend more time just figuring out what the objective of a shrine puzzle even is before figuring out how to achieve it. BotW shrines mostly followed the classic Nintendo design of introducing a very basic concept that’s easy to decipher and then gradually adding more complexity to it. It all felt very intuitive. Very quickly upon entering a shrine I usually understood exactly what needed to be done, and I just needed to figure out how to go about doing it. A lot of shrines in TotK just lay a bunch of objects and contraptions before you and I find myself just standing there for a bit trying to figure out what the game even wants from me. Not all of them, some shrines still are great at easing you into their puzzle concept. And I still overall love the shrine puzzles in this game. But it’s just something I noticed when compared with BotW.

The ones I been to have been pretty obvious, and usually start with a really simple puzzle. The name of the shrine also usually helps.

I also find them more varied than botw shrines. And not a single one has required motion control, or been a copy paste fight.

Actually, if anyone wants to find more lynels than they can shake a stick at:

Go to the underground colosseum, it's a match in location to the main one above ground in south central hyrule. And you can peek around through the locked gates before you activate the actual fight to see what you're going to be up against. It's, uhh, fun! laughs in despair

I walked in, realized what was about to happen, and then Grandpa Simpson'd my way out of there so fast

The color scheming of the Shrines is so much pleasing then breath of the Wild.

Anyone feel the same way? I also like the spiral to identify them in the overworld. Clearly done for the Sky launch and traveling. Very nice art direction
Yeah the aesthetics of the BOTW shrines had a harshness that isn’t present here, something about the colors they used. TOTK’s are just more soothing looking, even ignoring that they’re a lot better designed (if I ever have to do another “move the ball through the maze” shrine again kill me now)

I definitely prefer the overall look and feel of Zonai tech and architecture to Sheikah, it's a nice calming feel.

I love the whole shrine complete sequence too, especially the very last “jingle”. I just let the whole thing play out each time!
