  • Koei Tecmo: No - Unless Buddy Mission: BOND gets localized, nothing for this year. Three Hopes was only last year and if KT is involved with the next FE, Nintendo probably wants to give Engage more room to breathe.
I wish they would localized it. We are almost 2 years from release and at this point they might even do a follow up🙃🙃

I think when it comes to a possible Nintendo Direct, we might see something smaller in the summer, but I don't fully count on it tbh, it feels like maybe something in early September would be more likely.
When it comes to what I think would be shown in a Nintendo Direct at this current point of time, I think GCN/Wii remasters are something to be expected, as it seems as of late, they've been putting more focus on games from those eras with remasters and rereleases. Though for fully original releases from Nintendo that I think would be shown, it would be games like Tomodachi Life (or just any Mii series game in general), 2D Mario, Animal Crossing Spinoffs, and other IP that have yet to be on switch yet.
I totally expect for Nintendo to have games for the H2 of the Switch but for them to be smaller releases rather than super big titles.

General Direct exactly in a month, on June 15th. Maybe 14th depending on your timezone and stuff. But one of these dates. Bookmark this post if you need too, now back to play Zelda.

Monolith Soft supported pilot wings as a launch title for Switch to show us what the totk engine is really capable of off of 2016 hardware

Wuhu island / Isle Delfino / Dragon Roost / more

I will settle for nothing less

well, I will accept mario baseball and rhyhm heaven if we're talking current switch end of life support

  • Arika: Yes - Tetris 99 has essentially been an maintenance mode for at least a year now, only getting a handful of new themes. Most of the leads on both the EPD and Arika side haven't worked on anything since Super Mario Bros. 35. Pac-Man 99 lists an "Arika 99 Team" in the credits, so the series will probably continue. A possible shadowdrop in the next direct?

Oooh I wonder what the next 99 title could be! It could be Zelda's turn perhaps, but I'm not sure how they'd go about that.

Or... Super Mario 99 in the spirit of Mario 128 as a Switch 2 Launch NSO title

TOTK DLC seems a shoe-in for the first thing shown. I suppose it could be last depending on what else is shown / if they save the big Christmas release for a September direct, but I think starting strong with TOTK DLC makes more sense.

I wanna know something, do people actually want TOTK DLC? Like, is there something y'all think DLC can do to enrich the game further, or is everyone just expecting it since, "They gotta do it"

Um, I'm curious to see what they could do if they are but also...DLC just feels like a shoe-in for a Nintendo game nowadays ya know?

I guess, but what do you even release as DLC for the game that started out as DLC for another game and was polished and built up to absolute perfection over at least 5 years

I believe it's more of a "they did for most of their major releases, did it for the first game and it just makes sense they'll do for the game they've worked on for 5-6 years".

I haven't played the game myself but everything I'm seeing about it just makes me believe it's a totally complete experience that doesn't leave anything behind(I mean some of the stuff in Expansion Pass of BotW was stuff that really would benefit the game from the start).

For games like that, an story expansion more in the vein of Torna or Future Redeemed would be the goal. I think Champion's Ballad is very boring, hope they go for a better realized side story with TotK.

I'm totally fine with getting some good DLC for TOTK if it's something really good and meaningful, but at the same time I don't really like the idea that every game these days "needs" DLC or the expectation that it has to be there. It's fine for a game to come out and have nothing post-launch.

I feel it’s money left on the table if they don’t do it with how successful the game is but I do agree I’m in no rush for it with how long and big this game is. BOTW DLC was a bit meh too.

Also since we don’t know if / how backwards compatibility will work on a new console I don’t want to buy a season pass only to potentially need to triple dip when re-playing it in the future.

Give us 1 or 2 unique dungeons as DLC and I’d quickly change my mind though.

I feel like TotK dlc should be something like Xenoblade 3. A new, stand alone area with 1-2 dungeons. Have the map be the size of like 3-4 regions from the base game. You can use this to play around with ideas for the next major open air Zelda.

This is why I really enjoyed God of War and Ragnarok. It felt good going into the games knowing, generally, that they were complete experiences as is.

Tears of the Kingdom is seemingly missing something that makes DLC very likely in my opinion.

It's actually a someone.

Apparently Kass is completely absent from the game.

I feel I’ve barely scratched the surface of the game, but I’d want new areas to explore beyond Hyrule as I have mixed feelings about the reused surface map so far. Maybe you take a portal to a new area or enter a dream world of some kind. Also, unless there is a dedicated minigame tucked away somewhere, proper fishing minigame DLC please.

I think Ninty has gotten a good handle on making DLC that doesn’t feel that way / stands on its own like a pseudo 1.5 sequel. Eg Xenoblade, Splatoon

I would love to explore a piece of one of the continents that's visible from Hyrule that you can't go to, especially if it's really weird/unique/different from anything in the base game.

The other thing I'd love is to have a section of game that's really focused on sailing. Think the BOTW version of Wind Waker, with islands everywhere on the sea and you have to make boats to get around, etc. But the more I think about that, that sounds like it could easily just be the next entire game (maybe something like Zelda 2 where there's two continents with a massive ocean in between?) and I don't think they need to do the "we were making DLC and then it turned into a game" thing again. I'd love to just get a taste of that in whatever is the next Zelda game on Switch 2.

I was thinking about a new water heavy world/map too. If it were DLC instead of a new game, ideally you’d want something to take advantage of vehicles and flying. I was originally going to suggest space before playing the game, but that wouldn’t make too much sense given you need gravity for all of the vehicle building. I still want to see a low gravity / space Zelda dungeon someday though lol.

I mean, hey, TOTK does the Sky and Underground, why not have the next game do Space and Underwater?

Not sure whether it's Nintendo or Namco who's ultimately responsible for shutting down Pac-Man 99 (Nintendo doesn't usually sunset individual games unless they're timed to dumb anniversaries) but it could indicate that they have something to replace it soon, just like what happened with Mario 35.

Me when Nintendo finally reveals Everybody's 1-2 Switch in the next Direct:

The best parts of zelda are when you bullshit solutions to puzzles in such a way that make you feel like you outsmarted the devs (you didn’t). The best parts of mario odyssey was chaining together movement to sequence break levels and get places it felt like you werent supposed to be. Nintendo should really build on that in the next major mario title

So Grubb who's been parroting a PS showcase in late May (not sure how bold, like I'd have guessed June but is there precedent?) was right

...I still cannot comprehend how all of the following statements can be true
1.Nintendo will not host a direct this month or presumably anytime too soon (like not until August) if there's no rumblings
2.Nintendo aims to sell 15 million switches this FY, which, well called a reach, still in my eyes means
3.There will be no console revealed this calendar year

With console reveal next month off the table, and aiming to sell 15m and have something on the schedule... genuinely the only possibility besides a direct is a twitter drop, but the motives for that in the past don't apply, like a new 2d mario would do fine with a twitter drop but I think they would still prefer to give it a big showing

I don't know anymore, we'll see where the wind takes us I guess but I do feel firm that the FY estimate inherently excludes a console reveal this CY, though I'm sure the hardware thread will disagree with me

Grubb said that it was just speculation. Rumblings for a June Direct wouldn't have started yet anyways.

I mean, it'll make boatloads of money, so I imagine they'll do it. And yes, I absolutely want DLC. I'm only like 10 hours in and obviously there are a whole bunch of surprises for me to see in the world, but in a 5-6 year development cycle you accrue a bunch of ideas that may not have ended up in the base game. There's a whole bunch of things from the time before and during playing that I want to see happen in TotK, and obviously not all of them are in there, so bring on DLC.

Ok apparently the "reach" thing was a mistranslation, which if anything solidifies my confidence in no new hardware reveal

Just wanted to say that the new 2D Mario can't come soon enough, the game is getting revealed next month and that is pure pure hype. That's all for now, back to Zelda. Thank you.

It could be a mini, or a full direct, but I feel there's a good chance of some kind of substantial info-dump by the end of June for these main reasons:

1- Filling in their software slate for the rest of the year through the holiday (of which Furukawa stated recently: "In terms of software, we will release a variety of new titles, starting with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Pikmin 4.")
2.- Starting up the marketing drive for Pikmin 4 which is out in a little over two months from now.
3.- Nintendo's notable marketing presence in August with both Nintendo Live and Gamescom happening in the month.
4.- TotK likely getting some kind of DLC announcement soon after launch.
5. - The next Mario Kart Wave announcement as well as the possibility of the Splatoon 3 story DLC releasing relatively soon.

Is it? I feel like a 'new 2D Mario' right now can run the gamut all the way from "amazing looking, innovative new game" to "oh look, another New Super Mario Bros. with the same art style and game play bah bah"

It's burried near the start of this thread but they basically confirmed in 2015 it would not be NSMB5, what that entails is hard to say and i doubt its some grandiose thing that's been in dev since 2015 but they seemed to feel at the time a need for a shake up

I don't think so, if there is one prediction for Nintendo as a whole that I feel absolutely certain about it's that NSMB series is dead. If we have not got Maker 2 there would already be new 2D Mario, they had to port NSMBU but that's it for the series.

2D Mario

"Doing this now at the 30th anniversary [of Super Mario Bros.] is really putting some more of that creativity into the players. But at the same time, we as the developers feel that it’s time for us to move in a new direction, and we’re preparing to work on the future of Super Mario from here on." - Miyamoto, 2015.

“We will continue to make 3D and 2D Mario games, but I want to make one that even exceeds New Super Mario Bros.” - Takashi Tezuka, 2015.

Will we ever see a 2D game made entirely of Kotabe’s art?

We’re at almost like a turning point. When you look at Mickey Mouse there is the classic Mickey Mouse, and then there is the modern Mickey Mouse and the classic one has a lot of flavor to it and the modern Mickey Mouse looks really great, but it is losing a little bit of the flavor, and that’s something we discuss to make sure we keep that intact as we’re creating characters. And of course the development team for any Mario game may want to use Kotabe’s art, but there is also a character-development team that’s really working hard to create new styles and new work. Once they get more work done, I think more and more of that will be reflected into games.

And you feel like the pristine, perfect flavor for 2D Mario is that beautiful, clean Kotabe art?

I do believe that Mr Kotabe’s art has become kind of a standard within Nintendo, but we definitely want to continue to see if we can evolve that as time goes by.

- Miyamoto, 2017

Whatever this new 2D Mario game is, I can assure you that it's not another New Super Mario Bros. game, which at this point isn't that bold prediction at all.

Why are some people expecting a direct this June? Nintendo doesn't do directs in June. They use march and September often with neighboring months for smaller announcements.
I mean, we are close to summer and E3 is not a thing anymore but what about Gamescom? I think we'll get a couple announcements at summer games fest and/or Gamescom and finally, a direct in September.

Nintendo doesn't do announcements at SGF or Gamescom, and they've only skipped a June Direct twice in recent memory. We didn't get one in 2020 because of COVID, and we got a Partner Showcase in 2022 because all the major games for that holiday were previously announced. Nintendo needs to announce games before Pikmin 4 comes out to keep shareholders happy and consumers interested in the future of the console.

I've been the guy predicting a June Mini and a lighter H2 for months now and I'm still more optimistic then some on this forum.

Adding further to that, AFAIK E3 2020 was supposed to have a big Mario focused Direct

I think it was supposed to be late March/Early April, the mario maker update would have been revealed in it

I think Steve in Smash was gonna be an E3 reveal at one point (this one just inclination but they revealed 2 all new at 2019, so to reveal either what the Arms rep is and 1 new, or to even have Arms occur earlier in this timeline, both realizable)
