They are 33% of TPC. They probably wanted to avoid the burocracy involved to just make a quick ad.
they are 33% TPC on paper but when it comes to representing Pokémon in adverts and hardware, there’s no bureaucracy, no in-fighting — they have full and complete rights. In what world would they not want to deal with a company they own and have full rights to for all things game related, but WOULD deal with Microsoft for the Minecraft sheep??

and literally no ad for a major company is a “quick” ad, definitely not in video, and especially not one where they put mafia don unity mario in someone’s living room. marketers for major companies do in fact spend time on this shit, and then all the people who make those concepts possible (and don’t get paid as much) spend significantly more time on this shit.

I certainly wouldn't expect technical changes overnight, least of all in a potential December update, but I hope that my biggest concern of another content drop is addressed soon.

Hell, I just hope NERD isn't so demoralized by the internet completely shitting on them.

I saw those last night and love those descriptions but I honestly have no clue whatsoever about any of them.
I’ll give it a try:

1) huh?
2) ehh?!
3) w h a t
4) oof
okay, okay, maybe some more hints are in order. or timeframes?

1) Original release between 2015 & 2020 • Available for Switch

2) Original release between 2015 & 2020 • Available for Switch

3) Original release between 2000 & 2005 • Available for Switch

4) Original release between 1990 & 1995 • Not available for Switch

  • None of these games are represented in Smash Ultimate
  • Two of them have impending sequels (or successors in the same universe)
  • One of them is part of a long numbered series
  • None are Switch-exclusive
  • Three could be described as “indies”
  • All were widely celebrated in their own ways, albeit at different times

The thing that's been lost in all the fuss is that they have a good base to build from with this current N64 emulator. If anything, it's individual games that need tweaking (especially you, Ocarina of Time). I do expect those changes to come, and I do expect additional features for the various hardware peripherals to also be rolled out over time, especially as the selection of games increases. Hopefully the December update is a good one.

The question for me is whether they add the features that are absent across the emulators but which would be very welcome - mainly button remapping within the app, switching off borders, and in-game manuals. The first in-particular feels really important on N64 in order to make the experience better for as many people as possible.

Yeah, especially having a solid base to work from as opposed to wrapping ROMs in individual emulators should mean more games coming at once (barring licensing disputes), and then individually tweaking later.

I hope they can also address the toggle between rumble and controller save pak so MK64 can utilize ghost data and WinBack can save properly without needing save states (I honestly don't trust myself to remember using that methodology). It seems weird they've also omitted in-game manuals. Didn't they have that for the NES and SNES games?

Confession: I broke down and tried to use assisted mode to beat the end of Mario Odyssey.

And then on the first run with it on, we had an untouched run through the Darker Side of the Moon. Did we get good or did the game have mercy on us?

No, there haven't been any manuals across NSO as a whole. It's the kind of feature I'd hoped we'd get but given it hasn't been present across 3 years, I'm not sure if it will come.

But given the things people have datamined in the N64 emulator specifically, it does look like things like the controller pak are either supported or planned to be supported down the line. So that update should hopefully happen.

Huh, weird. Honestly it was an underrated feature on Wii U but I'm surprised they wouldn't keep it going (unless I'm misremembering it only for new games and not VC games)

At least datamining tends to offer some relief in future plans when Nintendo seems so adamant in keeping quiet. Hopefully that list of N64 game IDs could theoretically be filled out/guesstimated by process of elimination as more games are slowly added

You ever just want to play a video game, but a mix of a huge backlog plus anxiety means you can't decide what to play so you end up playing nothing instead? It's great, I highly recommend it.
I've had this problem. I solved it by taking screenshots of the icons (sorted by Time Played and just scrolled to the bottom to find everything I hadn't touched), sending them to a friend and asking her to tell me what I should play next based on the look of the icon. Every time I finished a game I'd cross it off the screenshot and resend. Not exactly scientific, but it worked! She helped me burn through over half my backlog during covid times. 😅

Mario's in your fucking house

If Mario came into my home uninvited I would not be smiling
posted some real bangers in the Describe A Game Poorly and Let People Guess It thread, sharing them here too. please give them a go! or express bewilderment!
Excellent descriptions but I'm already so bad at this game even without your apparently harder-than-normal descriptions. Great thread, though

at this point I’m just doing it because I get to say bonkers-sounding shit! I added four more to the other thread and I’m having a blast

but hopefully some of them are guessable!

This from the biggest Pokémon Colosseum fan on Fami?!

How quickly the facade crumbles.
It’s simple really.

Pokémon Colosseum is overall rather decent at best. Not a game where exploration is designed for, it’s a line of battles basically. Double battles and Espeon/Umbreon duo makes it great. And a neat little story.

SMTV first few hours had more fun exploring and would like that atmosphere to continue in new scenery in later parts of the game.

You’re telling me you can like a game even though it isn’t perfect?

what the f is this

MS launching Halo multiplayer on the anniversary is a big, and excellent, move. Don't own an Xbox, but I hope everyone who does enjoys it.

Is it bad that I thought this was Hyrule Field?

This is wild to me, that SA2 is better liked than SA1 but maybe my memory of the games is too hazy.
I have a hunch as to why people gush over SA2 vs SA1 but I don't wanna put words in people's mouths. All I know is I think the character animation is weirdly bouncy, the grinding sections made it feel less like I was controlling a running character (which was always the fun bit of Sonic to me, feeling like you're actually running that fast and not just gliding along on a contraption), the music and levels were less memorable to me than SA1, and the fact that there were no open areas to run around in and explore kinda disappointed me. Moving to a level 1, level 2, etc progression was SA2's biggest strike for me. It's why I'm so excited for the rumors surrounding Sonic Rangers/Frontiers being basically a Sonic version of BotW.

Edit: I am not trying to be a jerk to SA2 fans, btw. I don't mean for this post to seem shit-talky or hostile at all, I was just thinking of things I liked about SA1 that were changed for SA2, is all.

Looks like the Game Awards nominations will be out on Tuesday. I'm not honestly sure what I'm expecting to see this year, there's not much in the way of big juggernaut games like a TLOUT2 or something that'll get ALL the nominations this time around.

I am expecting, sadly, that SMTV won't get much of any noms because it's simply out too late, most outlets probably already submitted game noms by the time it even released.

Unless they're planning a surprise indie win (like It Takes Two), I think Returnal has locked that in. Any Sony published title is considered "juggernaut" by TGA standards. They ARE expensive games after all.

I don't know about that, Deathloop seems like the other one that might get a lot of recognition. Maybe Ratchet and Clank, too.

I'm just hoping for plenty of Metroid, at least getting some noms would be nice.

I would LOVE Ratchet winning this but that's highly unlikely. Awards are decided by voting and sadly we don't have a lot of R&C fans among the gaming press.

Metroid will win the best Switch game but I think separate platform awards are kinda meaningless. There's zero chance "Best Switch game" going to someone other than Nintendo.

No point in watching for GOTY award. Last year everyone already said Cyberpunk 2077 is gonna win this year

🤪

I... completely forgot that Cyberpunk is technically eligible for this year's awards. Huh. That game launch feels like it was way longer than a year ago.

There's a bunch of excellent games which should be up for GOTY but no clear frontrunner. Forza, Returnal, Deathloop, Metroid Dread, Monster Hunter Rise, Ratchet & Clank, Resident Evil Village. I don't think there's much that separate them all and I definitely don't see a clear frontrunner.

They'll make a diverse nominee list including both high budget and indie games. My guess for nominee list is for GOTY:

It Takes Two
Returnal
Psychonauts 2
Metroid Dread
Resident Evil Village
Deathloop

I think Returnal and It Takes Two have higher chance winning it.

I would like to use scanlines without the accompanying blur filter.

You know, I often joke about Nintendo’s mobile efforts but whenever I play one of their games on my phone I feel the urge to play the "real deal". So that strategy is definitely working on me lmao.
