Spoiler The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Pre-Release Spoiler Discussion Thread (Tag Story Spoilers)

Not open for further replies.
A live action TV spot has leaked on Reddit and it contains new footage.

specifically, the two things that stood out to me were an ability that looked like some sort of light magic (edit - it's an arrow combo) and Link fighting Gleeok on the bridge with the Gleeok named as Flame Gleeok, implying the existence of other Gleeoks.

Which would make sense, not only because of BotW's approach to overworld bosses, but because multiple Gleeoks appeared in the original Zelda

Pretty sure the "light magic" is Link shooting an arrow that's fused with some fluorescent flower

Korok puzzles return
Where?

The implication of multiple Gleeoks is weird because the trailer today made it seem like he was fighting one in a more scripted sequence? Maybe it's a bigger one or something

I don't think that was a scripted sequence. They just placed the dev camera behind Link's head to give it a more cinematic appearance.

Holy shit just realized I had this thread on ignore. I've been wondering why nobody was posting in it!

I hope there's gleeoks with multiple heads of different element types- but I wonder what it would be called. Combo Gleeok?
I'd be surprised if we didn't since Phantom Hourglass already played with this concept. I'd probably go with Fusion Gleeok as its name, even if it doesn't necessarily make sense.

I think Tornado Gohma might be the only story boss we’ve seen so far given it’s a scripted sequence with the Rito kid.

I could see purple landshark being an overworld boss

Forget Gleeoks, we got the [basically confirmed but it's nice to see it because damn it looks badass] Cannon Shield

Also mini-batteries, that's neat to see. Wonder how many sizes there are. Based on the demo flying drains batteries pretty quickly so even with an upgraded vial set (if that is what they do) you'll likely need quite a few to fly, and more to achieve your lifelong dream of suplexing a Gleeok with a homebrewed mech

and implies Link needs a lot of hearts to take on a Gleeok, going by this leaked commercial

Oh yeah giant underground confirmed then. Sweet.
To play devil's advocate, we know it goes down quite deep, though we don't know what form that'll take or how wide it will end up being.

Like, I do think it'll be pretty expansive but a deep pit that's just straight down and pretty small on the x and y axis at the bottom would technically fit the footage in the ad

Underground clip shows a Z coordinate at -479.

Ok, honestly this is the biggest reveal of the day to me, even bigger than anything in the trailer, since it's the first unambiguous confirmation of an underground world that is connected to the main Hyrule. This is huge because all the other underground sections we've seen could have been caves (and there is a HUGE difference between cave and underground) and there were still uncertainties of whether underground section would be fully connected to the overworld.

Now we know the verticality is actually pretty crazy. You can be half a mile underground. Use ascend and pop up somewhere in Hyrule you might not expect. Then use ascend, recall or some ability again and be on a sky island. Three separate biomes on the same XY point that can be quickly traversed and interacted with.

The big question now is whether underground is just a couple small separate areas or a large sprawling area with multiple entrances and exits.

Yeah same lol. I assume you can ascend pretty high up. Im not expecting something gigantic for the underground but still a fun size to explore

Yeah I don't mean a giant seamless underground world, just at least once vertically huge underground space which feels expansive.

Agreed. The trailer was very nice but as with BOTW one, it can be very misleading/deceiving about story and progression (probably most of the cut scenes will be memories again since we got confirmation in NOA web that Link starts on a sky island and not exploring with Zelda the underground like in the first teaser). I don’t think this will be much more linear than BOTW like some are thinking and that can lead to disappointments later.

Personally I’m a bit more confident now that we saw more footage but still worried about the exploration of new lands (not fan of the islands). also not digging the crafting of contraptions (I hope it’s not a core element but I doubt it), or too much technology elements (rockets?).

Also there were some scenes on the trailer theoretically underground but that I think it’s actually the interior of Death Mountain and not a big cave, so this new ad showing again a totally dark cave with the negative coordinates is a glimpse of hope for me. But since Aonuma said “exploring surface and sky” with no word of underground, I’m cautious because there‘s a fair chance that most underground areas are just small caves with treasures/challenges/ascend opportunities (the map marking cave entrances with a complete symbol are a bit discouraging about and exploration element more than a pure puzzle thing), dungeons/zonai shrines or just one or two big underground areas for story needs and not an extensive network behind Hyrule to get lost.

I can’t wait to play the game though beyond my concerns about reusing the map or the apparent greater crafting focus. Loving Ganondorf return and design!

There are gonna be some crazy situations with these deep caves. Imagine you run out of luminous plants and can't see anything, next thing you know there's an enemy attacking you and you can't fight back, so you ascend out and you end up in the middle of an enemy camp on the surface or in a hot region without the right armor. You'll have to adventure responsibly or you could easily find yourself in a deadly situation.

So we see an island in the trailer with Zelda on it. We see the same island later with Link with a pillar destroyed.

So what are we thinking?

1. Zelda is in the past. Possible playable segment. [time travel shenanigans]
2. Zelda gets attacked and captured by Ganondorf's minions and you have to find her [damsel in distress]

One is cool and the other is meh. Which do you think is the case? Do you have an option 3?

It's either past or in a different realm, like the sacred realm. All of the outfits we're seeing for Link and now her scream past to me though.

With the Gleeok being specified as a Flame Gleeok, I wonder if they’ll be other elemental types of it. And on that note, I wonder if some of the elemental Lynels, Hinox’s, and Talus’s from AoC will make it in this game.

If they really do time travel and potentially a playable Zelda... I mean how epic can one videogame be? I mean if these are not in the game, that was a hell of a trailer but I can't help feel like there is still a lot more epic to come.

Now I’m imagining just descending further and further into the underground abyss until eventually you stumble upon some hidden boss. Elden Ring did something like that and it was glorious.

So 17 hearts in one row implies a higher max HP. If Battery Vials are also upgrades, we are probably looking at close to 200 shrines, assuming they work mostly the same with rewards? Checks out for the rough increase in total size of the game.

For reference, the rock Aonuma used to demonstrate recall took him from ~50 to 568.

Goodness.

Most of the tutorial area is from 1200-1500m, and the actual starting platform you seemingly jump down from is around 2000-2500m, and we know there's stuff considerably higher than that. The 30 second fall demo was the fall from around 1200 to 0.

There's no way that the lowest point in the world is just some dark cave with cool plants We're going well below -500m.

You know, if the art book never got leaked early, I would've thought Rauru was one of the villains in the game. The quick and creepy reversed music that leads to a bang and out pops this soot-covered dragon/goat being with a menacing death stare and malice particles all around. Maybe could've deduced his good intentions considering that later in the trailer a big dude with the same dark gray skin tone shows up next to Zelda and consoles her, but hard to say.

However, I think this moment definitely has to be during a very pivotal time in the game, maybe during the final battle? Or maybe this scene will play as a flashback that coincides with the first-look trailer's lightning-strike moment—aka the first time Rauru defeats Ganondorf (seeing how the background looks cavernous and dark). Just a tiny snapshot/frame of the trailer alone gives a whole lot of interpretation, it's amazing.

How many new enemies are there
In terms of new that I can think off the top of my head...
Redeads
Multiple variants of construct soldiers (each with different levels of difficulty)
Gleeok
Whatever the boss is at the Hebra whirlwind region
Purple Alligator thing in the latest trailer
Possibly Darknut (also in latest trailer, the thing that was coming out of the wall)
Unknown ball enemy also shown in latest trailer
Flying Kargaroks introduced in last trailer
Boss Bokoblin
Golem Construct
Like-like (shown in previous trailer, where Link was using a flamethrower against)

Thats about all I can think of... Plus I lost my access to the artbook so I'm not sure if I'm missing any from there.

Also the ogre looking guys with the fat noses and the giant fat lizards with gems on their backs. There’s also a bunch of monster parts in the art book that don’t match up with anything. The most obvious is some advanced/maybe ancient Hinox. There’s a giant humanoid tooth that make Hinox teeth look like baby teeth and also a bigger/longer humanoid toenail. Some new giant humanoid enemy basically.

also the weird fat frog things from the art book. I say frogs because that's the closest comparison I can think of. One of them has like tusks

One interesting thought is that the lore in BOTW referred to the Zonai as kinda a savage, barbaric race. I think they may go with the "two warring tribes must make peace to fight the real evil" kinda route where Rauru and baskets will need to find a way to unite their people (dare I say, fuse their people?) to defeat Ganon in the distant past.

This shot may be when he was an enemy of the Hylians.

Just a quick couple of thoughts. I was going to post this in the other thread but they seem a little touchy on spoilers and I don't want to add something into that thread based on the Art book leaks.
I am almost certain now that Zelda is in the past on the Sky Islands. It makes the most sense to me story wise from what we know, or think we know. And it mostly revolves around the calendar/time machine we see her standing in front of in the trailer. We see the Sun dial and moon dials moving with a door opening in the center.
clock-new.jpg

I am thinking we will have to repair or rebuild the one in the present eventually, but just the fact that we see it working and in operation vs what it looks like in its current condition is a pretty clear indication she is in the past.
Calendar.jpg

Calendar1-com.jpg

I am guessing that the original Basket was done in by Gannondorf in the past as seen from the mural, which coincidently is the only portion of the mural that we know the least about.
basket-fall.jpg

We see Zelda holding Basket's Tear and saying "I know why I am here and it's something only I can do." So it makes sense to me that, for what ever reason on the how Zelda was able to go to the past with Rauru, that she needs to fill the role of Baskets' job before Gannondorf killed her. I don't think Zelda has any direct relationship to Basket but my guess is that it has to do with the Triforce of Wisdom that Zelda probably still possess.

Just speculating but the Calendar/time machine might also be a way to transfer objects back and forth through time between Zelda and Link.

I'm not so sure about when this shot is. If you look closely in background you can see parts of the other "old Champions behind him" Rauru looks like he has been in a fight already and I think this is the where he Seals Gannondorf with his hand in a flashback.
rauru-final.jpg

That's a Rito bow to the left of him and a Gerudo Scimitar Sword to the right of him in the background

This is freakin wild. Like are we really getting playable Zelda time traveling to the past to interact with the world which effects the present timeline because if so that's way bonkers and just complete insanity and yet there is a LOT of evidence that suggests this is indeed the case. Great find btw! :)

They added a depth of field blur so I can't tell at all what's back there. You must have a good eye.

It was about the time awhile back when I posted about the Calendar that, I at least think we were all piecing it together through the process of elimination, and why I left this thread because it was getting to be much more of reality than just speculation, at least in my mind and I didn't want to spoil anymore for myself. I wonder sometimes if Serif left partially for this reason as well, he was so good at figuring things out and already new this game was going to be absolute bonkers.

I think the picture you were going off was a more close up view of Rauru and you couldn't see the sides of him from that picture. It is blurry so it's not definite but the outlines match up pretty well, we don't have much context go off of other than Rauru looks pretty mangled, but given we know the races each have a tear it would make sense that the original ancient hero's helped him to seal Gannondorf.

I'm not trying to make a claim on how deep we're going (and I kinda doubt it'll end up as deep as the sky is tall). Was just giving a sense of scale. Even if 500 is the deepest, that's sufficient room for some crazy stuff down there, which was more my point.

Imagining how much can be packed into a single vertical slice of map is kinda staggering.

ZeldaPY is right it's a rito and presumably a Gerudo behind Rauru, the image just sucks so here's a better one:

Screenshot-20230414-013815.png

At the bottom left corner that's a rito foot, the thing above it is the tip of the Swallow bow the Rito is holding, while on the right that's a Gerudo sword but it's heavily covered in Malice or dirt or something. What the person who is holding the sword is wearing doesn't look like Riju tho.

My mind is running wild after the trailer and now that the underground has been confirmed by the TV ad. And it's pitch black! We're totally gonna get jumped by Redeads down there, aren't we???
