StarTopic Anime |ST| Is Captain Falcon more anime than Fire Emblem?

There’s a very real possibility that Eve is the real Amawashi daughter and that’s really intriguing.

Also wow romance anime fans are eating good this season.
I’m still thinking Eve is Leo’s daughter and he trained her to destroy him, and she had trained under Amawashi before the amnesia

Boy Suletta’s dissonance is the unsettling for sure. New OP/ED are both awesome. Next conflict begun and mysteries abound.
Also it’s being treated as one season by crunchy. Same with birdy wing

Having Nintendo Pictures credited in Precure (because they bought Dynamo Pictures after they already produced the CG for the series ) is a nice thing.

With my latest random contribution to this thread, let me take you back to the tail end of last year.

No, I’m not talking about Chainsaw Man or Bocchi The Rock, I’m talking about the real star of the show - Tekken Bloodline. Seriously.

Well, no, it was pretty average but I enjoyed my time with it. It’s middling for sure, but there’s some good stuff there.

I have really fond memories of playing Tekken in my younger years, enjoying it with friends and family. I developed a bit of a soft spot for the story too.

Tekken 3 made a huge impression on younger me, and seeing the main story of that game fleshed out a little bit (and only a little bit) was novel and fun.

In a nutshell, it tells the story of main hero Jin Kazama seeking revenge for the ’murder’ of his mother. After his mother’s death, he seeks out his father’s family and begins training to avenge her. His mother Jun was a pacifist, his father’s side are more than a little evil. So, the show is essentially about his internal struggle as he tries to become stronger without losing his humanity.

And you might ask, what would be the best vehicle for this story? Yep, you’re right. It’s a martial arts competition featuring colourful characters from across the world.

The show doesn’t feel like a big budget affair and some of the dialogue is proper clunky, but the fights reference the games well and there’s some enjoyment to be had in some of the character interactions.

Seeing Jun train Jin and getting a glimpse into their relationship was nice. Seeing Ogre descend on their idyllic home and set Jin on the path of revenge was also cool. And finally, to see Jin’s grandfather break him, build him back up and try to purge his mother‘s influence (for his own sinister gain) was welcome.

To witness these events, only referenced in game manuals and magazines 25 years ago, was a real treat for a lifelong fan. It’s bang average in many ways, but there’s sparks of something more there. And at just six episodes long, I was able to power through the lot in one sitting.

Tekken Bloodline isn’t a hidden gem or something I’d even recommend, but as a fan of the series, it was a nice trip down memory lane with a bit more meat on the bone.

Oshi no Ko went hard too. Anyone curious about it, I beg you to try and go in as blind as possible.

This season is already gonna be one of the all-time greats.

The first episode of Shenmue did nothing for me.

Is it really that good as I've been hearing?

In random news the og Mobile suit Gundam dub also got added to crunchy. Wing(tv), Origin, IBO and G-Witch all have their dubs on crunchy now. Seems like they may finally be bringing them all over, hopefully EW, 00 and Seed’s come soon so I can finally watch them(build series too).

Marginal service 1
Iffy setup works when it suddenly turns into a Toku style hero show XD. I'm in. Also Denny is totally alive

I hope the Pluto anime becomes a hit. Then I hope it gives a small chance for 20th Century boys to get an anime.

Also goddamn that 1st episode of Oshi No Ko.

I finally caught up on all my shows from the previous season, remind me to never let it get this far again...

These are the ones i'll try and keep track of this anime season! It's so stacked wth!

Three episodes into 86 after starting it on a whim and I’m enjoying it quite a lot.

There’s some really raw stuff in it and more than a few uncomfortable real world parallels you can draw too.

I saw some criticism levelled at the first episode, but most seemed to agree it picks up shortly after, and I‘m already engrossed.

I’ll watch more tomorrow, but it’s compelling so far.

I think 86 is legit one of the best shows I’ve ever seen. Incredible attention to detail and the director’s work was phenomenal, it’s hard to believe it was his first shot at it.

It’s goddamn stacked alright. I’ve had to shelve anime that I thought were decent just because there was no way I’d be keeping up with it all.

Shaping up to be a very solid season, watching KnY, Mashle, Oshi no Ko, Jigokuraku, Heavenly Delusion and Gundam, on top of some on going shows.

I’m now nine episodes into 86 and I’m having a blast. I can’t take my eyes off it, despite some scenes being very difficult to watch.

The top level story and world setup is fascinating, enough to carry the show on its own.

But it continues to expand and broaden out its concept at every opportunity. It keeps adding layer upon layer of intrigue, heartbreak, despair, hope, etc.

Juxtaposing the seemingly idyllic life of those walled off from the combat, with those forced to go to war creates a stark contrast that really hits home.

And I love the decision to, at times, show events from one perspective until the story reaches a critical junction and then switching over to the other side. It can be really interesting to see how both leads reach a pivotal moment.

I’m trying to explain all this without spoiling anything because as someone who went in completely cold with no expectations, it’s been a wild ride so far. Though, I’m obviously years late to the party, so maybe no one cares about spoilers.

There’s a lot of humanity to it and I’ve been surprised by how many difficult themes the show is prepared to tackle.

I think the evolution of the relationship between Lena the Spearhead party feels really genuine and real. How they challenge her, resent her and eventually come to accept her. And how, through those interactions, Lena realises idealism isn’t enough. She’s forced to really examine herself. I thought the flashpoint around ‘names’ was a really powerful way to end one particular episode and launch into another.

And the confrontation between Lena and her best friend… man, it was unnerving! I had the lights off, watching it in my living room, the creepy music kicks in and I was like, this is scary as fuck. lol

Anyway, let’s see what happens next. I have no idea what’s to come.

Don’t want to spoil anything too, but yeah that particular segment was a fantastic way of depicting how ingrained the racism really is in Alba society. Lena has always been the one on the side of the 86, their lone supporter in a sea of racist assholes… and then it’s revealed that she only ever knew the Spearhead soldiers by their call signs.

And the confrontation between Lena and her best friend…
Ah yes, the glorious moment when Lena decided to play hardball.

Life’s been busy these last few days especially so I haven’t had the time to get into this anime season at all yet outside of Dr. Stone season 3. Kind of funny in that it wasn’t my most hyped show necessarily walking in, that’s probably Gundam which I’ve sadly seen none of just yet, but I was in the mood for Dr. Stone which is kind of comfortable despite how wild it can get. I just really dig everyone coming together to get some science done lol.

Anyway these first three episodes have been great so far, but the reason I’m commenting is mainly for that ending of episode 3. That was just really well done and has me so excited to see next week’s episode and the rest of the season.

I'm having some issues with Insomniacs after school, as someone who had insomnia during a year, it makes me crazy that no one, even the school nurse is like "hey kids, go to the goddamn doctor, insomnia is serious business" and it even tries to romanticize it (at least in the 2 chapters I've seen).

Polished off more of 86 - just finished up episode 14. Still enthralled.

To watch the remaining members of Spearhead meander through the countryside, explore the ruins of civilisation and just… live, was extremely satisfying. I wanted it to last forever - but I knew it couldn‘t.

One of the character’s said it felt like they were the only people left in the world and it truly felt that way to me too. They really captured something… I can’t quite explain what, but it was beautifully done.

It, of course, ends in a heartbreaking cliffhanger that tugs at the tear ducks - even if it’s a bit of a fake out. The sequence depicting Fido’s death was particularly painful - so I was overjoyed to see him return in this last episode I watched.

To then see the gang attempt to adjust to a new way of life, find some joy in it, but ultimately turn their back on it was really engaging too. The stark contrast between the life they led before and the life they had on offer was mind-blowing.

As a viewer, to watch them drive through normal streets and do normal things - it felt like I was coming up for air alongside them. It was a relief.

It made me think that this is what real world soldiers must feel like. To leave the battlefield and then return to a normal that now feels alien. This is well-documented in real life, but I thought it was fantastic that the show could evoke that reaction within me. There’s so many cool little details too. If I miss something, or something just catches me eye as the scene ends, I’llI often scrub back a few seconds and I’m often rewarded with a little piece of subtle storytelling. It all feels deliberate and very thought out, like the author has a firm idea of where they’re going.

My wife is at a hen do all weekend, so I suspect I’ll power through a bunch of this in the coming couple of days. Love it so far. This was meant to be a shorter message but here you go…

G-Witch 15
Gray, so much wonderful gray in this show. The Gundam core is kicking off for real now! Sheesh, poor Guel tho

It's quarter past midnight here so I won't write too much (right now), but man, 86 was just such a wonderful experience.

The show hit me like a truck so many times. It's thoroughly engaging at all times.

I'll write more tomorrow, but yeah. Special.

Time Bokan 24 -1
So history was wrong… well this could go bad quick… oh wait it’s because it was actually hilarious and you’re poking random fun at historical events. And the bad guys are the history book company who have to edit the book everytime things are retconned? Well this should be some silly low stakes fun then XD.

G Witch has been on fire since it’s come back, things have kicked off way quicker than I expected. Honestly at the pace it’s going I’m starting to worry it’ll finish after this cour.

Nah there’s plenty of big picture seeds being planted that can continue after the current arc

Do we know if a third season is in the works? There's enough plot threads being laid down that I find it difficult to believe they can all be resolved with 9-10 episodes left.

We don't know but it would likely not be announced/confirmed for a while. It was a year and a half between Gundam IBO season 1 ending and season 2 starting.

Technically this is the second cour of the first season for G Witch.

Hyped for this one in July. Wanna say Hidive got it as part of their new partnership

When a Gundam is successful it gets more seasons(usually up to the length of a full show pre 2010), and they usually create each block so they can tweak the ending if they think they’ll get more. Like IBO had 2 script versions for S1 where things were bigger before getting a s2 confirm internally so they scaled back to make things more open. Bandai’s wording has been weird for this one but Aerial is the best selling new lead HG so at least another season is super likely
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think these usually have ~50 eps treated as a single season/series.
Not since 00 I think, it’s shifted like most modern shows that aren’t full time due to pipeline issues

Birdie Wing 17
Oh man we're back at full pace now. Tho honestly if there hadn't been a year break the last 3 episodes would've made a better breather transition than as an opening. Vipere's back with a nice new style. All those revelations too XD. that crushing was perfect and boy are Amuro and Aoi's mom such good bad guys. Not that Eve's family is a shining beacon of virtue either. Hopefully we find out next week Leo was her uncle all along. That should have some fun moments when he pops back up also that poor RX-78-02 those kids popped apart

I just watched episode 14 of Gundam Witch from Mercury.

Even though this series irritates me a bit at the dialogue level, just because characters have a habit of stating their feelings and plans in a very expositional way, which is maybe just a convention of anime -- it's still really thought provoking and moving! The revelation about Suletta's sister kind of turned my stomach!

I think Gundam takes a really clever perspective by often having a Spacian main character and Earthian "antagonists". We relate to the spacians because the MC is one, and Earthians because they represent us. I don't know which other stories do this but it's effective.

Witch from Mercury next… worth a watch?
I'd say yes. Witch from Mercury was designed to appeal to people who don't usually watch mecha anime. I'm also ready to gush over 86 whenever you are haha.

This season has been great. And not so great for my free time haha.

Digimon Adventure Japanese Blu-Ray is finally out. Snagged myself a pre-order. This series was so foundational to me in so many ways and I always said if a Blu-Ray of the Japanese version with subtitles came out, I would buy it, and here we are.

Oh hey RSA got their ultimate muscle stock in. Dunno if it meets the perquisites to ship it alone or if I’ll be waiting till next month when AKo4 and Mazinkaiser Vs get in

Started my annual attempt to get back into anime. Last spring I watched 6 or 7 shows. Started up a few this season. Mixed bag so far of the ones I chose.

Oshi no Ko has been the highlight. Really good stuff so far. All I really knew about it is that it's from the creator of Kaguya-sama, which is a really great series, so I was interested. Very different series but still good!

The Dangers in My Heart has been solid. I've read a bit of the manga here and there, but never actually read any of the early chapters. Based on both what I've heard, what I've read of future stuff, and now what I've watched of the beginning, this is a really solid story of growth from the main character. Starts out as a chuuni edgelord but he grows a lot over the course of this series and I'm looking forward to seeing it progress from the start this time.

My "why did I decide to watch this?" show this season is I Got a Cheat Skill in Another World and Became Unrivaled in The Real World, Too. It's not good lol. I wasn't even expecting it to be good so idk really why I started watching it. I've watched a lot of anime over the years, and in the process a lot of self-insert wish fulfillment stuff, but this honestly may take the cake. Every time the MC walks out in public everyone stops in their tracks and are in awe at how good looking he is lol. The self-insert wish fulfillment is so bad I've actually started laughing at it. Will continue watching.

Biggest disappointment has been The Café Terrace and Its Goddesses. I read the manga and I think it's a fun read. Obviously nothing amazing or groundbreaking, but it's pretty funny, the art is good, and the characters are all likeable. This is a lousy adaptation. The art is significantly worse. The humor isn't landing as well. The direction is poor. One of my least-favorite anime-isms is the camera constantly doing full body pans over characters. It's not an issue in the manga with still shots. It's all over the place in this. And there's plenty of fanservice in the manga, but they've dialed it up even more in this for some reason. Overall pretty much just worse than the manga in every conceivable way. Like if I consider the manga like a 7.5/10, this would be a 5/10. I think this is Seo Kouji's best manga, and it's a shame the anime is so bleh.

Things I think I want to watch:
KamiKatsu: I actually just started reading the manga and had absolutely no clue this had an anime. The manga is pretty funny so far. I'll check it out. Seems like a pretty weird/bad adaptation though. Not expecting much.
Demon Slayer and Dr. Stone: Behind on both series but I'll watch them at some point.
Hell's Paradise: I've heard good things. Don't know anything about it.

Never had high hopes for that adaptation, I stopped watching after the first episode haha.

Oshi no Ko
This, on the other hand, has been on point so far. The first episode being movie-length was such a good decision.

Dangers in My Heart
It gets really cute by episode 4, I won’t say more than that for now haha

This series was so foundational to me
This was required watching for 90s kids!

Honestly my expectations were pretty low after the initial key art and character art for the adaptation were revealed. Just felt like it missed the mark right from the start. Still a bit disappointed though.

Kamikatsu is on my try since it got a dub list. I’m behind on a few things due to a wild week followed by iffy internet. Hoping to catch up on dubs at least tomorrow

Ha - don’t you worry, that beefy post is coming! Just been a bit preoccupied writing some mini novels on Xenoblade.

But 86 is going to get the full treatment. Might do it this Bank Holiday weekend.

Still waiting on the Kaguya movie dub… it’s only been months. :(

Gundam X -1
Boy that's a bleak setup that's basically: what if the federation had mass produced Gundams before operation colony dropped and things got escalated to the point it turned out 1000x times worse. Garrod is a fun goofball and Tiffa could be interesting. Also the ED Human Touch amused me for some reason. Well definitely has my interest. But it's ToTK time

Also if we’re talking all time fave Gundam ED’s tho this is my jam

Atelier Ryza finally got a date for July. Hopefully does better than Escha&Logy

But we already got the awesome Management of a Novice Alchemist anime last year which was nice and yuri

Started reading and now up to date with Sakamoto Days and Dandadan.

I can't wait to see these two get an anime adaptation.

I can see certain people hating the first episode of dandadan.
