I promised one more giveaway so here we go.

Predict the exact length of the next Nintendo Direct. $5 US eShop giftcard giveaway.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Let's try to guess the exact length of the next Nintendo Direct presentation. We are talking about US version of Nintendo Direct here since the japanese one will actually have the different length as always. What I mean is the Nintendo Direct upload video that will be there after the presentation. So the whole thing from the intro to the final Nintendo logo.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

I am being generous here and listing you some of the recent Directs and their durations:

September 2019 - announced as roughly 40 min. - Ended up being 38:45.
February 2021 - announced as roughly 50 min. - Ended up being 50:46.
E3 2021 - announced as a roughly 40 min. - Ended up being 38:51.
September 2021 - announced as a roughly 40 min. - Ended up being 40:35.
February 2022 - announced as a roughly 40 min. - Ended up being 40:48.
September 2022 - announced as a roughly 40 min. - Ended up being 45:22.

What are the rules?

You have to quote this post (so I can find your guess easily) and type the exact length you think the Direct will have. For example: 42:22. Your first number being minutes and the second one being seconds. Or just type it as a 42 minutes and 22 seconds. Just type it somehow that I can understand it. If you type in something like "42 minutes" and you are not typing seconds that means your response is 42:00.

If you don't quote this message you are not participating. I will not search many pages just to find your guess. Shoutout to bellydrum for doing the sweet every quote message button.

The person who will guess the exact length or the nearest one will get the giftcard. If more people guess the exact length (it could happen lol) than one of these will be selected by random selection.

You can send your guess until Sunday, February 5th, 12pm UTC. You can edit your guess until this end date.

Good luck.
I'm going low.

Including the part Nate said about nine Nintendo games and no new third party reveals. 😅

Believe it or not I'm in the middle of a playthrough of Chrono Cross. 😅
Actually I should point out I started the year playing Radical Dreamers for the first time. That was a trip.

YES. I've played through it a few times with encounters off and immunity on so as to experience some of the lesser known dialogue options.

And Radical Dreamers is such a great experience. It's not good so much as it's just a unique artifact of its time that deserved to be preserved. Glad you've had the chance to play it.

And wait. Hang on - there's word about the direct being only first-party?

What if Nintendo cheap out and do New Super Mario All Stars

The same 8 worlds forever

Trillions of bah sound effects

The horror.... the horrorrrrrr
Should have done this a while ago (or done it with U deluxe).

I like the NSMB soundtracks if we are being honest, even if they overused the bah sound a lot

I'd buy that nice nugget of comfort food, and will have a podcast or other music on anyways =P . You know what bugs me more in those games? The amount of time it takes to go into and out of levels. Dying is a chore. Mario Maker 2 just restarts you at the checkpoint, and it retains the flow so much better.

No, there's absolutely no indication of a first-party only Direct, I think Nate made fun of "leaks" basically stating such nonsense.

I feel like we should wait until we know how long the Direct will be announced to be before we can start guessing how much over or under it will go...
No, that's the thing. It will be announced as a 40, 45 or 50. That would be too easy. But as shown previously "roughly 40" can actually be 45 minutes.

They say that the Partner Showcases begun in 2020 but that ain't true.

I am happy to tell you about Nintendo 3DS Direct 3rd Party Publisher Games.

Lol that makes complete sense. Appreciate the update since I've been away from the rumor mill market for some time.
Yeah it's been sort of a running thing for a while that a lot of the 4chan and youtube "leaks" tend to be just wishlists of 1st party Nintendo games, and that it's usually an immediate red flag if a "leak" has zero unannounced third-party games in it. Nate made a tweet making fun of those sorts of things and that's what I was alluding to.

I want to see Midnight Suns Switch gameplay along with a solid date at this Direct. A port of Weird West would also be greatly appreciated.

Still hoping for a big, out of left field 3rd party release from the past like a Enslaved Odyssey to the West remaster or someth8ng along those lines.

Enslaved IP belongs to Ninja Theory and along with everything they own it went to Microsoft.

One "out of field" candidate I can suggest is Just Cause 2. Feral has been porting Eidos stuff to mac for a while now and many Eidos IP's went to Embracer. One of the few stuff left at the Square is Just Cause and best game in the series Just Cause 2 can be a great port at the hands of Feral.

Part of me wants this to happen but another part of me knows that having all of these games in the same package would force me to realize how uninspired the games that defined my childhood are.

Thanks. Now I'm convinced this is what's about happen. Since NSMBU is already on the system, the collection will consist of:

NSMB
NSMB 2
NSMB Wii
Consider this: Nintendo already has all of the HD assets they need to remake these! That's an advantage the NSMB collection would have over the 3D collection.

20 million seller right there. You get the mainstream Mario audience plus all those Nintendo fans who say they had the series so much but them all anyways.

I know people hate them and I want a new art style as well but if they dropped a new NSMB game this spring I would devour that thing

I still don't get why they called the third one NSMB 2 and not, like, NSMB 3D or something. Are they disavowing the original on DS or the Wii one? Was the Wii game a prequel, or maybe a spin-off?

My only guess is that the thought process was: it's the second NSMB game on a handheld so it's called NSMB2.

TBF Nintendo was in full blown panic mode by that point after the debacle with the 3DS marketing and probably thought calling it something like "NSMB Gold" or "NSMB 3D" would make it sound similarly like it was some kind of enhanced port instead of an all new game. Hence why Mario Kart 7 was called that instead of "Mario Kart 3D" (likewise with Mario Kart 8 instead of "Mario Kart Wii U" or something).

It's definitely weird but it makes some sense when you think about it

The console games basically have their own naming scheme (Wii, Wii U) and act more like sequels to each other, while the DS entries have more direct names (NSMB, NSMB2).

Man...New Super Mario Bros.

Nintendo would release a collection instead of a new 2D game. That would be hilarious and just like them. I just want that series to die and see a new look for 2D Mario.

Yeah, Nintendo would never release something in 2012 that was titled in a way that people thought it was an enhancement and not a successor!

Is there really a distinction between the console versions and the handheld ones? I thought the consensus was that they were all the same thing, but I've never played any of them.

Honestly maybe I should give em a go, I know those are the ones where people whined that they played themselves if you took too many tries, and that was how I managed to finish 3D Land

Good luck.

Is there really a distinction between the console versions and the handheld ones? I thought the consensus was that they were all the same thing, but I've never played any of them.

Honestly maybe I should give em a go, I know those are the ones where people whined that they played themselves if you took too many tries, I could maybe even finish one
4-player multiplayer and Yoshi are really the only things the Wii/U games have that the handheld ones don’t, iirc.

I didn't mean the actual games are that different, just that I think that was the logic behind Nintendo's naming scheme.

It was like a much less realized version of Land vs World. Mind you, I don't think they had forethought necessarily. I bet 2's name was largely an afterthought that just so happened to make some semblance of sense.

They all have the same core gameplay (and physics, as far as I can tell), but each of them has different levels (although, yes, they all take place in 1 of 8 biomes) and power-ups. Like Catalyst mentioned, Yoshi and 4-player co-op are exclusive to the home console installments.

The general consensus that I’ve gathered, at least from this site, is that the Wii U game is the best in the series, due to its creative level design and HD graphics. Personally, I’ve always had a special fondness for the Wii installment since it was the first Mario platformer I ever played, but as you could probably tell from my title, I love all of them 😅

In the Good reality, we get New Super Mario World: a brand new take on 2D Mario which uses the 3D World visual style from Mario Maker 2, features new power ups and enemies, a more sophisticated world map with short cuts and secret levels, and which includes an exciting mix of themed worlds. It has a big band soundtrack.

In the Bad reality, we get New Super Mario All Stars: NSMB, NSMB 2, and NSMB Wii. No bonus content. No remastered soundtrack. If you don't have fun playing the games, Miyamoto pelts you with rotten fruit.

Let’s make our own “light” schedules post Zelda that actually rock. The definition used remember was no ten million+ sellers and 2D platformers are apparently fine.

Here’s what I want:

Pikmin 4
Xenoblade 3 Expansion
2D Mario
3D Donkey Kong
Mother 3
Fortune Street
Zelda Four Swords Adventures With Online Multiplayer + Lite Versions To Let All Your Friends Mooch Off You
Sin And Punishment 3 With Wii Remote accessory support
Metroid Prime 4 Demo Prologue Thing With Prime Remastered

honestly between the Xenoblade Expansion, Fire Emblem and Mario Kart DLC i'm pretty happy with Nintendo's second half this year just on DLC alone personally

Game Boy NSO stuff would be nice though, and I don't want to get my hopes up too much on the Baten Kaitos rumors but that would be a big announcement for me if it were true

What if Nintendo cheap out and do New Super Mario All Stars

The same 8 worlds forever

Trillions of bah sound effects

The horror.... the horrorrrrrr
Good. These are good games. Wii is some of the most chaotic multiplayer I’ve played and it’s entirely because they put the grab button in the same place as the spin button. Also the Kooplaings were given more personality here.

Also Ludwig’s “Oh” quote in his boss fight does things to me
