remember when we thought that it would be impossible for nintendo to not go all in on marketing a major zelda release for less than 6 months?

We re basically with only 3 months left and marketing hasnt even started lmao.
I feel like since COVID Nintendo has recognized they don't need long drawn out marketing cycles for their games. But I imagine after the February Direcft it will start in earnest, probably with a Zelda Direct in March and then a steady rollout from there.

It's weird because I know I'm gonna buy the game and I will probably have a great time with it but I'm not excited yet. Nothing they've shown me has blown me away, but the trust is there with BOTW, so we will see I guess.

Oh my god the name for the ST is very much excellent

Great work, @SammyJ9 !

What if there’s no February Direct and instead it’s just a 100% Tears of the Kingdom Showcase?

I also realized that I have not touched my Switch in a week. I’ve been busier than I expected. Busy with other hobbies, not work, thankfully.

Nah, they have tons of third party games to promote beyond Zelda who pay for promotion. Can’t leave them behind.

Ahh February, a month of great happenings.

Super Bowl (although i don't watch American Football), Super Bowl Ads (which i partially watch!), Nintendo Directs, peak time of german carnival and birthdays.

A month so generous, it had to be shortened for it's own good.

Welp, I'm on strike today for the first time in my life, as part of a one-day coordinated strike between various UK unions. Gonna head to a strike rally in a couple hours, hoping for a good turnout.

Since the Direct is likely coming soon, I started thinking about a list of things to put on my bingo card. I always make one and watch the Direct together with some friends.

I'm trying to make it realistic so that I should be able to get bingo. I also included some less popular things that I'm interested in. This is the list of 25 items (since only 25 fit on the bingo card) I came up with:
  • Splatoon 3 Splatfest: "What's your favorite chocolate?" (11/02 - 13/02)
  • Octopath Traveler II (24/02)
  • Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe (24/02)
  • Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon (17/03)
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass Wave 4 (march/april release?)
  • Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Expansion Pack Wave 3 (30/04)
  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (12/05)
  • Hollow Knight: Silksong (2023)
  • Metal Slug Tactics (2023)
  • Pikmin 4 (2023)
  • Sea of Stars (2023)
  • Wildfrost (2023)
  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp (?)
  • Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake (?)
  • Animal Crossing
  • Donkey Kong
  • Mario
  • Metroid
  • Amiibo
  • Nintendo Switch Online
  • "One more thing"
  • "Releasing today"
  • Eiji Aonuma
  • Yoshiaki Koizumi
  • Shinya Takahashi
Any ideas on what to add/remove? Something that will obviously be in the Direct that I missed?

Yet another well-made OP! Nice work @SammyJ9

February is just a great month. The days get "longer", the temperatures "warmer" (can you tell I hate winter?), we get a Nintendo Direct, a Pokémon Presents. Just a great month all round.

February is off to a great start!

My favorite composer, John Powell (Star Wars Solo, HTTYD Trilogy, Jason Bourne films, Kung fu Panda 1 and 2, anything Blue Sky, Shrek, Don't Worry Darling, among several other films) has announced he will be composing for two films this year instead of just one!

Im so excited, Powell's music is like no other, one will be an animation and the other will be music for the Michael J Fox film.
Also an original orchestra coming this year. Crazy packed for a composer that only does a film per year

ahhh it feels cozy in here! Great work on the ST @SammyJ9

I… also sorta can’t believe this website’s been around for 17 General Discussion STs. That’s wild.

I feel it’s gonna be a good month!

Hoping February is better for me than January was (getting sick + failing two driving tests + generally not having a great time does not make for a good combination). I'd generally like for 2023 to be better, but of course only I can truly make that happen.

Think my main plan for this month gaming wise is to play through Xenoblade Chronicles 2. I'm already near where I left off the last time I tried getting through the game, so it should be more easily done from there. That and I actually know what I'm doing now lol. For new games I'd love to get Like a Dragon Ishin... but I still want to play Dead Space and Hi-Fi Rush, and have yet to finish Yakuza: Like a Dragon, so it seems weird to jump in there.

Also, Great ST @SammyJ9 :D

@zumaddy

Apparently, the winners of CYL7 might have leaked.

Guy side: Robin, Soren
Gal side: Gullveig, Corrin

You know what today being Feb 1st also means?

One month to go until Mandalorian Season 3!

I quit after Gears 3 and have seen Gears 4 and 5 on GamePass but never really felt the need to get back into the franchise. Are they worth it?

Gears 4 is fine. Like, a completely competent entry if a little underwhelming. Gears 5 however is easily my favorite in the series. Love it so much I bought the life-sized Lancer replica.

Kirby's Return to Dreamland (Wii)
Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe (Switch)

- Do you regard them as two separate games, or different platform versions of the same game?

Apparently there was a Tim Horton‘s class-action lawsuit alleging they were illegally collecting people’s location data through their smartphone app. What’s the repayment? One free hot drink and one free baked good. A coffee and a donut. I’m not kidding.

maybe they should have used my illegally-collected location data to determine that I haven’t been to a Tim Horton‘s in years and have zero intention of ever going to one again lol

it's okay, they'll just find you!

tbh I think this is a false dichotomy. I don’t think the choice is binary; it’s not “new game or same game,” it’s a port with better graphics and added content. It’s different, but the core is the same.

......can I have your coffee and donut then?

Derachi’s ranking of places with drive-thrus where I’d get a coffee:

3) McDonalds
2) Starbucks
1) A&W

A&W legit has the best coffee you can get in a drive-thru, which is great because they also have the best fast-food breakfasts

Don't have the app installed on my phone now but I did for most of 2022, how to redeem free coffee and donut?

I'll use multiple disguises to bankrupt them. I make better coffee at home but fuck if their strawberry vanilla icing donut isn't the best damn thing they offer

Okay this is not incorrect, but A&W when they first got into the breakfast game came out swinging. Those breakfast hashbrowns the first year were absolutely PHENOMENAL, big discs the size of their burger patties...but then the bastards started cheaping out and I just can't justify them anymore 😥

I think you had to have it installed from 2019-2020. I dunno, I just got an email telling me how to redeem it

Never had the pleasure of A&W coffee, but I think I prefer both McDonalds and Dunkin to Starbucks. I only ever go to Starbucks if my wife is in the car with me.

Alright, dungeon level 4 almost complete. This one introduces branching pathways, with exits to 3 separate levels. Plus you get to fight a sentient pirate ship. And rescue a magic fish.

I don’t think we have Dunkin’ here, but I’ve heard it’s alright!

I know I don't know, like, all Canadians but I'm shocked that of the few I do know, none of them care for Timmie's. 😅 Like how drastically different the stereotype is from my experience.

When I visited Sask I was blown away but how friggin good A&W's everything was compared to the states. Yall figured something out up there, I swear.

...fuck 🙃 I'm one of those people who have >10,000 unread emails so it's definitely gone to die in my inbox lmfao
Yet people give me shit for the 30 chrome tabs open on my phone 🤣

I do think there’s a generational divide stemming from Tim’s being all a lot of Canadians had for decades, especially in rural/less urban places. But the popularization of non-Tims coffee places around the country, plus… well I can’t statistically back this up or anything, but wow, Tim Horton’s coffee sure got real not-great over the years (iirc their prices did not rise in price along with inflation, meaning costs must have been cut somewhere along the line) means that sentiment around Tim Horton’s has, in my anecdotal experience, plummeted among a lot of younger Canadians. People want Starbucks, or Second Cup, or honestly even McDonald’s or A&W coffee over Tim Hortons nowadays.

I’m sure this illegal data-harvesting lawsuit did not help their public image.

Canadian A&W (which is an entirely different entity from American A&W, owned by a completely different group) is genuinely the best fast food up here. Better than Subway! I worked at one in high school and all it did was make me love it more.
