It's a fun year where Nintendo could well wait until E3 - and Zelda is launched and out of the way - before they announce titles for the end of the year.

Except that'd involve minimal first party announcements in February and so we'd have months of no service other than Doom Trains.

But they aren't going to do any in-depth look at TotK. Full 3 minute trailer and that's it, maybe then Aonuma talking about 1 minute and 46 seconds about something. The same way how he did with SS HD. TotK in-depth will be reserved for Treehouse. Not Direct. And Zelda does not need much in-depth either way.
It doesn't need a Sakurai deep dive with narration and editing, but there's a lot that needs to be shown if this is "the" trailer for the game. Whether or not Treehouse is happening, there is a lot of ground to cover in a format that Treehouse doesn't substitute for.

the game that superficially looks like botw 1.2 absolutely needs something in-depth and it needs it yesterday
Zelda team just uses cryptic trailer which has nothing in them. Community makes the hype. It's the sequel to BOTW. That alone is selling point. When they release a full trailer the all "it's DLC" talk will be gone.

I’m here to remind everyone that the partner directs we’re actually good.
Most were, but the second? one I think was pretty rough

But the one with the SMT games, the one with Monster Hunter, and the one last year were honestly pretty solid even by usual Direct standards

Not only such leaks too many first party games, they only have the most popular ones. The biggest names. Mario, Zelda, DK and for some reason Star Fox is always there. No Kirby, Pokémon, Xenoblade, Fire Emblem and other smaller franchises. Because, you know, whoever wrote that doesn't care at all.

Eh, 3 months is plenty of time to talk shop on Tears of the Kingdom. Get a more detailed trailer out in February to give people something to chew on, do a Zelda Direct in March, and have another bombastic trailer then to knock socks off. Previews in April, reviews in May, and the game won't be out of the news.

I mean we still have that rumored Fire Emblem remake that's in hiding...
I wouldn't be at all surprised if they could probably throw together a FE Remake trailer for this if it's as far along as rumored, but announcing that as a Direct opener to be the third straight FE opener AND with it being only a few weeks after the Engage launch would be quite the move

You’re not going to get a new 2D Mario, TOTK and Metroid in the same direct I think. It feels like way too many big announcements in the same direct for Nintendo. Because there will be other announcements like a possible Mario baseball, etc.

TOTK is a given. To me you’ll have to choose between Metroid or DK/Mario.

Mario Baseball? Don't tell me you are now a Zippo fan.

I have to agree.

And I think that Metroid Primake/MP4 will be at E3. But damn I can't help myself from prematurely getting excited for more Metroid!

I agree completely. I think given we had a new Mario game in rabbids not so long ago, and prime being a remake, it would make more sense to show up sooner than later.

Just my own opinion, but a brand new fresh Donkey Kong game would be more "exciting", and therefore if real, makes more sense to show at E3

I mean like I've personally been saying Baseball since the year started, they kinda have no drive to make new Mario spin-offs so might as well just going down the list, looking for the ones that aren't reliant on touchscreen controls

Exactly. Personally I feel Metroid will be saved for E3 to pair with Prime 4. I feel this direct will be heavier on the ports and remasters, but will still have like 2 brand new games.

My guesses for 1st party reveals are:
Mario vs Donkey Kong/Mario Baseball (one of them will be here the other will be at June Direct)
Jet Dragon (published by Nintendo)
Dragon Quest 3 (published by Nintendo)
Closer: Metroid Prime 4 first gameplay

Updates on: Fire Emblem, Kirby Deluxe, Advance Wars and Xenoblade 3. No Zelda, it's gonna have its own Direct where they'll also reveal WindWaker port. Just windwaker.

Was more making a comment that’s he format was good and there were games in every one that I found interesting. And honestly, a lot of directs don’t have any different third party stuff. People just were upset their weren’t Nintendo games.

Here's my ideal closer. I haven't put a lot of thought into it or anything.

Takahashi: So, how is everything? This next segment will be our last for today's Nintendo Direct. (closeup) Today, we're finally able to bring you new information on the latest entry in the Metroid Prime series, Metroid Prime 4. It's been four years since we announced that Retro Studios would restart development on this title from the beginning. Thank you all for your patience. (bows) We can announce that Metroid Prime 4 will release on Nintendo Switch in [2023/2024]. Please wait a little longer for the final release information. We've prepared a trailer for the game, but first, we actually have something else to show you. Please, take a look. (snap) (Metroid Prime 1 remake trailer which starts in a way that makes it obvious it's not a new game) (2023 release date) What you just saw was the [remake/remaster] of Metroid Prime, the first game in the series, which will launch on Nintendo Switch this [name of month]. Before the release of Metroid Prime 4, players will be able to experience the beginning of the Metroid Prime story (blah blah blah). All right, it's time to show the first look at Metroid Prime 4. Please enjoy, and thank you for tuning into today's Nintendo Direct. (fade out to Metroid Prime 4 trailer) (credits)

You trying to break my sanity?

Predictions:

  • Intro will be Pikmin 4, announced for a September release.
  • TotK is not a highlight of this presentation. I still think there will be a smaller section for TotK at the Direct, just the bare minimum to start pre-orders for the game and special edition Switch OLED, with a special showcase announced for late February/early March. That will be the second-to-last thing they show.
  • Thing that no one expected or could have predicted (except me): Ring Fit Rhythm, a new game using the Ring Fit accessories. Features a bunch of rhythm-based mini-games alongside a main mode where you traverse courses and battle enemies using rhythm-based movement with the ring. It's definitely a workout, but less of an exercise game and more of a party game where you challenge friends locally and online to get the best scores.

y'know when the leadup to a direct is fun and interesting the end result stinks (september 2022)

but when the leadup stinks the direct is surprisingly good (june 2022)

we should be in for a good ass direct folks

the absolute rush that i've felt watching the premiere of every Tears of the Kingdom trailer so far has been unparalleled. really can't wait for a proper trailer, i feel like i might unlock a new emotion

Personally thinking 2D Mario is likeliest and that Metroid features at E3 as a Prime HD/Prime 4 double whammy.

The leadup to that June 2022 Direct was mostly the doom and gloom of it being a Partner Direct though

I really don't think we're getting a full Zelda direct. It literally makes no sense. One big trailer and maybe a treehouse showing only the starting area, but a full 20+ minute direct for the game makes no sense.

Most likely it won't be the only Zelda game to be featured there. I expect WindWaker and/or Twilight princess to launch this fall.

Mario baseball has been noted (guessed) by many individuals, including myself on the forum. Only logical given Nintendo Sport releases. Why zippo gains traction saying same thing ???

The September 2022 Direct was the best ever though? I mean it was for me after Octopath II so...

Edit: Also yeah, the thread is scary fast. Looking forward to the site crashing on Feb. 7th/8th lol

No, TotK DLC will likely launch this fall. WW/TP are not launching this year, if they are even launching on this hardware.
Yeah, very much doubt DLC will be a thing. The dev team will move on to the next gen project as fast as possible.

I adore that idea however if we get that and it’s NOT called Ring Fit Rhythm Heaven I will riot
