With how Octopath is sloted (February 24th), next week always made the most sense for a second general trailer + a new demo (+previews dropping).

Pokemon Present around Pokémon Day is another likely outcome.

Honestly as much of a bummer as it would be, I kinda hope we would get confirmation MCC on Switch was cancelled outright. At least I could move on and place some faith in TimeSplitters living up to expectations whenever that gets an official trailer
Considering how long Saber ports take, it's not surprising that we wait this long for Halo. They announced Kingdom Come Deliverance more than a year ago, still no word on that port. Halo has literally 4 games in that pack.

That would be preferable and I hope that is the case, but it's just equally suspicious that any sort of discussion has completely dried up about it

I think King Zell confirned that they were cancelled.

Octopath might show up again, but it's probably going to be less of a focus because Nintendo isn't as involved in worldwide publishing this time around (since it's multiplatform out the gate with PlayStation consoles). There's already quite a lot of information out their on the differences though.
Nintendo may not be publishing it this time around, but it does seem like they have the marketing for the game since its trailers have only been showing up on Nintendo's channels outside of the SE ones. I'd imagine it will be similar to the last time Live A Live was shown on a Direct before release where there was a small trailer and demo announcement.
For what is worth, the people that revealed that Baten Kaitos was getting a remake also claimed that it was set to be revealed during E3, so don't be surprised if it's a no-show during the next Direct.
I think the E3 reveal was only a guess; they did claim a summer release though. If the rumor is true a reveal in the Spring Direct seems more likely to me since it gives more time for preorders.

Nope, they never gave any update. Zell said later they no longer have the contact and never talked about it after that. It was Nate who said something like "it's not coming soon".

If such project exists I'd expect it coming much later in Switch's lifetime. Not only they'd require super long time to port, but Saber must be doing this same time as all the other ports.

If this project exists, by sheer coincidence it could be ready for a crossgen release on Switch and new Switch hardware whenever it does release if it's not for a long while yet, right? Nothing about it is necessarily waiting for an extra boost in hardware power given it's an Xbox One game?

As a follow up, what projects have Saber been confirmed/rumoured to be working on besides Kingdom Come Deliverance? I imagine most likely The Witcher 3 next gen update, and Wikipedia mentions Gloomhaven and Evil Dead: The Game have also yet to release

Theyre all basically 360 games. I don't think Saber would bother improving the games for the next platforms, making them playable on base Switch alone should be a challenge by itself. Games feature multiple engines, made the porting very long for PC.

It's been 1.5 years since the announcement of Kingdom Come for Switch and no updates since then. They're also trying to bring Evil Dead and it's been 8 months since it launched on elsewhere. Before that World War Z port launched on Switch almost 2 years after the announcement. It's obvious that Saber miracle ports take serious time.

That's all the games Saber's port studios are doing right now. Their actual game development studios are busy with WH40K Space Marine 2 and recently released Dakar racing game.

Oh, I actually wasn't aware the Halo games were all separate engines. If that's the case I would have thought part of the reason it was such a mess at launch was because they were trying to port all the games at once into one singular engine to make it easier to troubleshoot. I mean, be cool if it could utilize DLSS, but I guess if there's enough stress over individual games being made to scale down to Switch in both technical effects and storage space while also maintaining 60 fps, they got their work cut out for them.

It's surprising that they can take on as much on their plate as they can, but I guess I'm just trying to reconcile if they even are actively working on it right now, or if it's just on the backburner until their other Switch ports release

I've seen some speculation in the Pokemon community that Gen 1 and 3 could show up soon due to the legendary birds and weather trio being transfer compatible in Scarlet and Violet (Mewtwo too, but he always seems to slide his way in), and that's an interesting angle; would probably get our answer by the end of February (before the DLC goes and adds the remaining legendaries like SwSh did) in that case.
All of the legendary Pokémon from SwSh and all alternate forms of Pokémon in the game are transferable to SV, which would include the Kanto birds. Weather trio is interesting but I don't know what it means without the eon duo or the OG golems

I’m not really up to date with most game development cycles unless I’m actually interested in them, but out of curiosity.

Excluding Zelda which always have long development cycles, and obscure things like Miyamoto saying (or mistranslation) saying Pikmin 4 was nearly done like 7 years ago, or Metroid dread - is Metroid Prime 4 one of Nintendo’s games with the longest “announcement to gameplay” where they’ve announced a game but no gameplay, or even an official CGI trailer? It’s just over 4 years now isn’t it? Is there anything else that comes close?

Only other things I can think of are games from the 90’s and early 2000’s where studios would say preemptive comments like “we are working on X game”, but then we never saw it. At least with MP4 we got a logo and stuffs

Also I forget, who did we believe the original developers for MP4 to be? Was it Bandai?
Actually it's gonna be 6 years since Metroid Prime 4 announcement this June, insane lol.
And yes, nothing comes close afaik, when it comes to officially announced games(Pikmin 4 being the exception, but it was more in a situation like Dread in the mid 2000, not an actual announcement).
Long gaps that I can think of between announcement/teaser and gameplay reveal:
  • Bayonetta 3 had just under 4 years, being announced in December 2017 and gameplay revealed in September 2021;
  • If Pikmin 4 counts, it was painful 7 years.

And yes, according to insiders and LinkedIn findings it was Bandai Namco who was making the canceled version. We heard Nintendo was trying the western/Ubisoft-like approach developing this game with several studios involved doing different stuff, but the whole thing fell apart or was going nowhere. Back when the restart happened, Zhuge said the game was expected to come by 2019/2020 when it was announced/greenlit.

In addition to the above note about the bird trio, there's a shiny Rayquayza in the upcoming anime based on SV, so that's probably why the weather trio is there.

I generally don't think the transfer-only legendaries are hinting at anything. They mostly seem to track with what's "native" to the other Pokémon games available on Switch (except Regigigas, lol).

Emulated mainline Pokémon games are likely to show up once their platforms do on NSO, but I expect they'll go in order.

To add on to this, looking at the transfer-only list for SV, it seems to mostly be whatever legends were introduced or had new forms in gen 8 (legendary birds, weather trio, Galar legends). Mewtwo and the gen 3 box mons are the only ones that really stand out on "well, this is odd" unless it's for the metagame

For a different point now than the one above, I wouldn't take gen 1 & 3 legends being in SV base dex as a "Gen 1 & 3 coming to NSO soon!" I don't see a feasible reason why TPC would skip GSC either. I'd love for the direct that's probably in the next 2 weeks to finally reveal GB/C/A coming to NSO and then a PokePresents on Feb27 detailing Pokemon on NSO including dates for the Stadium games that have compatibility with RGBY & GSC's NSO save files, but we'll just have to wait and see

Not new. Use the Wayback Machine to verify - Silksong has had that NSUID since at least June 2022.

I checked the same thing when TotK got a NSUID and Advance Wars got a new one with the same hope, but it's just the same NSUID it's always had, so nothing news worthy.
Good to know, dang

Not sure what the criteria is exactly for a game to be assigned an nsuid

Didn't know Kingdom Come Deliverance was coming to Switch. Just saw the trailer and the game looks amazing and seems like a good story. Oh God now I can't wait to see the port!! Hope it's an announcement for the next Direct.

Halo might've been a case of insiders coming to know of a project way too early, like, learning about conversations between Microsoft and Nintendo or planning on bringing Halo to Switch before the port even entered development. The time it's taking must mean it's indeed Master Chief Collection and not just a port of Anniversary or Reach. Whenever it's announced it's gonna be a big megaton.

On the subject of already announced games/port that are taking forever, I can't not think of Genshin Impact and that game of a boy and a dog/fox on a forest that was revealed for Switch shortly after Switch itself was revealed, Heaven something I forgot. Also do we know what that "Sega untitled game" from the Switch Presentation turned out to be? Not announced but rumored, Tomb Raider sure is taking a while to come.
