Something Mario related in time for The Super Mario Bros. Movie. They probably don't want to release a brand new Mario game a month before The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom. My hope: Super Mario Galaxy 2 + Super Mario 3D Land - a double pack of HD remasters.

Or:

New Super Mario Bros. All-Stars (HD remasters of 1, 2 & Wii)
Paper Mario All-Stars (every game from the original Paper Mario to Color Splash)
Mario & Luigi All-Stars (ports of all games in the series)
Super Mario RPG: Legend Of The Seven Stars HD-2D
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD (DK is in the movie, there's a spinoff film in the works & Super Nintendo World is getting a DK expansion)

I would be surprised if Nintendo didn't have a Mario game to sell us this year and I don't mean another Sports title (or other spinoff title). It would be like Lego making Lego movies and videogames but not selling you actual legos. I would completely shocked if Nintendo doesn't have some Mario platformer to sell us this year. Could be a new 3D Mario, a new 2D Mario or some port or classic collection. Got to be something...
 
Nintendo gonna Nintendo, but it would be wise to have a new SKU for folks to pick up after seeing the film.

I still want a new 3D Mario for this year and I will believe it until the last second, even with likely hardware releasing the next year.
 
Releasing a Mario game with the movie makes sense but they really don't have to. People whose first experience with Mario being the Mario movie will have like 10 Mario games to choose from if the movie convinces them to get a Switch.

The obvious choice is typically not what Nintendo always goes for. Like when people were saying NSO had to launch with a new game that had a major online focus, but that didn't happen.

No company "has to" do anything but I still feel like it makes complete business sense. Get people out to see the movie and then have some new Mario games ready for people to buy afterwards. This is definitely what I would be doing if I ran Nintendo but hey if it doesn't happen then it doesn't happen. I'll say it's a missed opportunity and disappointing as a fan and then simply move on.

But they aren't releasing any Mario game in April otherwise, that ship has sailed back in September. May is for Zelda. Is there a Mario game this year? Sure. But it's early summer at earliest.

Well yeah, that's the thing. There's pretty much some form of a Mario game every year whether it's a platformer or a sports game. I just don't think it's a guarantee that they're releasing a game specifically because of the movie coming this year when newcomers would have plenty of Mario to choose from anyways.

A new mainline game would be dope, though. Could also just end up being Donkey Kong for all we know.
 
Just wait until there’s a big side story in the Mario movie where Mario becomes a famous baseball player, and they decide to push out a Mario baseball game to coincide with it.

I would take it. Mario SuperStar Baseball on Gamecube is the best Mario sports game.

Which would make me very nervous for how the Switch version would turn out given the track record of the current sports games.
 
Not sure if this was posted but Smyrhs toys in the UK had Advance Wars showing as in stock ready to dispatch earlier. Now showing as out of stock, sign they jumped the gun too early?

Man I'd love a shot at something like a hand-drawn 2D Mario game like the classic boxarts from back in the day.
What I'd also love a shot at is playing a Mario Baseball game. Was alerted to the existence of Mario Super Sluggers a while ago, very disappointed to learn this game did somehow not release in Europe. I saw the character selection screen and almost died from euphoria.

Takahashi comes on screen: "Welcome to a new Nintendo Direct. We're doing things a little bit differently today, as we've been hearing some complaints. Famiboards user @Raccoon has been praying for the downfall of headlines, so we decided it was best to retire that segment of the Nintendo Direct format."

Takahashi proceeds to pick up a big, long piece of paper that says "Direct headlines" and puts it in a paper shredder, where the paper is shredded for a full 8 minutes due to it's size while Takahashi stares into the camera and into our souls for the entire duration of it.

"I hope you're happy" walks off
 
I'm reading all these hopes/expectations of a new a 2D/3D Mario or TOTK news and I'm just sitting here just hoping for more Octopath Traveler II gameplay and/or info on how this game is different than the previous one lol. If that happens it's already good enough for me

Octopath might show up again, but it's probably going to be less of a focus because Nintendo isn't as involved in worldwide publishing this time around (since it's multiplatform out the gate with PlayStation consoles). There's already quite a lot of information out their on the differences though.
 
Prediction: Zelda is only gonna get a small trailer in the direct, which will be immediately followed up by "for more information, please check out the Zelda Direct that is coming later in the month". If those ESRB ratings are a genuine indication they're spinning up MP4, I can't see anything else being the One More Thing
 
I dreamt of TotK. Link was flying into a huge Tornado on the back of a loftwing-like creature. There was a huge thunder/lightning themed floating castle with a zapdos like creature flying around it. It was pretty dope

TotK shouldn't be the one more thing anyway. It should be the halfway point big blow out game.
 
I feel 2D Mario is going to be launch alongside the Blu-Ray release/Digital distribution of the Mario movie by the end of the year; And with that, they don't necessarily need to announce it so early... June (E3 time) should be it.

But I also want 2D Donkey Kong, so it's tough for me.. my only hope is that EPD is able to deliver both in a short spam in between, and I'm more interested on anything Donkey Kong than Mario right now.

Played Goldeneye on Switch for a bit. Very nostalgic. Very fun little time waster


Then I see that online reception ain’t the best for the emulation lol. Some things I just can’t catch. But whatever issues are. Hope it gets fix for everyone. Not really a game I’ll be coming back too much personally.

i have a good feeling about a direct next week! the week after would be fine too. maybe it's just copium because i have a trip booked for the 15th-16th
 
all i'm saying is carly rae jepsen will be performing in london on February 15th 2023 at approx 10PM GMT and to air a direct on this day would be considered blasphemy

what if nate isn't teasing not to let the thread have its own vibes or because of harassment but instead because he heard nintendo is doing it on the exact same fucking day as last year
