new nate podcast todayOk, why do people think late 2024 all the sudden? Just because of Splatoon 3?
I feel like I missed something. I mean, don't get me wrong, I don't think it's unlikely. But I got the transition in opinion from 2023 --> 2024 way more than 2023 --> late 2024.
Suddenly my 120 pages bet is not looking too good.We made more than 6 pages today. And they said that the thread is dead.

Nintendo should just inject the next Direct into our brains immediately so that we can get this stupid charade over and done with
DOWN WITH STREAMING DIRECTS
UP WITH INJECTING DIRECTS STRAIGHT INTO OUR BRAINS
It's been 3000 years......There IS gonna be a huge demand this year because the Switch consoles they're making are... TRANSPARENT! Return of the Atomic Purple!
NahNo Switch 2 until at least March 2024, YOU FOOLS

Why does the photo for his JP tweet have a red Joy-Con paired with a gray one. I don't think that should be allowed

the forty year olds who will be reminded of Mario 3 are going to be a huge new market segmentI never really thought about it this way, but Super Nintendo World and the Mario Movie are probably the biggest system selling things coming out this year. People will go to the park or see the movie and want to play Mario. Here comes the Switch.
I generally get your point, but Ring Fit Adventure was a new IP and that blew up pretty big. Astral Chain did pretty good as well.Flip flopped on posting in the hardware thread, but considering the contents are all software related I feel it's better suited here.
Considering the last major push Nintendo made for a new franchise was ARMS at the start of the system's life (you look me in the profile pic and tell me Way Of Sushido was a bigger success. How's Buddy Mission BOND doing with it's global success?), I think it's fair to be a little disappointed that we still have to wait until the next generation to see what they'll cook up next that isn't a sequel/spin-off in an existing franchise.
Watch me eat these words come the following Direct, but really: what are the odds Nintendo is going to announce a wholly brand new IP, with AAA production value, in the console's sixth year that will have both commercial and critical appeal? Essentially, something that will have a main character that could also debut in the next Smash Bros? If I had to give it a percentage, I'm less than 10% confident we'd see something like that.
I think it's a reasonable response to be bummed out about this type of speculation, but it is what it is. Zelda will be phenomenal, Pikmin 4/Advance Wars will come out eventually, Fire Emblem fans are about to feast, and maybe a 2D Mario will release with an artstyle that's visually stunning and a soundtrack that doesn't want to make me claw out my eardrums. If I can't look forward to anything wholly original, I guess all I can hope is that these Gamecube remasters come true sooner rather than later and that they dive deeper into the library beyond the surface. Outside of Pikmin, Luigi's Mansion, F-Zero, Metroid Prime and the Zeldas, I have little hope that any other titles are going to find an escape beyond the 'cube (because clearly NSO isn't the avenue to hope for).
I actually feel like an ass about this because I was going over a list of Nintendo first party games published on Switch and apparently the list writer left out Ring FitI generally get your point, but Ring Fit Adventure was a new IP and that blew up pretty big. Astral Chain did pretty good as well.
does Monolith Soft count as Nintendo for the purpose of this questionWatch me eat these words come the following Direct, but really: what are the odds Nintendo is going to announce a wholly brand new IP, with AAA production value, in the console's sixth year that will have both commercial and critical appeal? If their next title doesn't start with 'Xenoblade', suredoes Monolith Soft count as Nintendo for the purpose of this question
it was always 2024 for me.Ok, why do people think late 2024 all the sudden? Just because of Splatoon 3?

I don’t understand how Ring Fit is a gaming app. It’s an amazingly well put together title that shows the medium can go far beyond joysticks and button clicks. You have gear you can collect to upgrade your stats, which does affect combat, branching paths within levels, new abilities that unlock you traversal methods, ‘potion’ crafting, side quests, and then your move set, which you can carefully curate and augment before each level to really maximize the area you want to work out.I actually feel like an ass about this because I was going over a list of Nintendo first party games published on Switch and apparently the list writer left out Ring Fit
You're right though, like I don't want to be "RiNg FiT dOeSn'T cOuNt" because it's exergaming, and I'm sure it had a fairly decent budget behind it as well, but I view it more as a 'gaming app' than an actual game, you know? Astral Chain I'd be more inclined to agree to that point, I only didn't include it because it was Platinum Games and not in-house. Otherwise though it's probably the kind of game I would have expected to come from entirely within Nintendo.
I have a name, ya knowthe forty year olds who will be reminded of Mario 3 are going to be a huge new market segment
Hells yes. I'm actually finally ready for a new full-on Monolith title that isn't Xenoblade. As much as I love the franchise, XB3 made me feel like there's no way to really surprise us with it anymore. So I'm ready to see what they can come up with through a clean slate. I miss having Takahashi turn my brain into the meme.If their next title doesn't start with 'Xenoblade', sure
Nothing you're saying is inherently wrong, and honestly I do give a great deal of credit to RFA for keeping me sane during lockdown while giving me an option to stay active. I just don't think of exergaming as what I want out of gaming any more than I do PC edutainment CD-ROMs from the late 90s/early 00s or the cashgrab mobile games in the early years of smartphones. It's a nice complement to the rest of my gaming habits to be sure, but I certainly wouldn't want it to be the only game I'd have access to on a desert island.I don’t understand how Ring Fit is a gaming app. It’s an amazingly well put together title that shows the medium can go far beyond joysticks and button clicks.
