hype is so dead it's insane

  • tears of the kingdom could be great but it could also be botw 1.2
  • pikmin 4 might as well not exist
  • metroid prime hd is a joke
  • prime 4 went from being a jpg of a 4 to a jpg on a linkedin page
  • at this point 3D mario isn't coming until hardware
  • epd in general is probably pretty much done with switch
  • everybody's 1-2 switch, the most interesting rumor of recent memory, is never coming out

all of my personal excitement lies in my hopium for certain weird small projects I like (tomodachi, rhythm heaven, maybe fucking rusty's real deal baseball 2)
I mean, there are plenty of reasons for people to be frustrated. I guess I just don't get worked up about stuff like I used to.

I kid you not, the mere existence of Metroid Dread unlocked some sort of inner peace and balance within me, lol. I'm just along for the ride now.

Are there still games I'm excited about? Of course! Looking forward to Fire Emblem and Zelda! But that endless cycle of hype -> disappointment -> frustration was exhausting. I found one thing to be content with, and I've held onto it.

My excitement nowadays is sustained by surprises--things I didn't know I wanted. Not everything pans out the way you expect, but that's life.

I'm sure this sounds stupid and corny, but following this crap for so many years has actually taught me patience and contentment.

Applying that attitude helped me through other difficult situations in the real world too. Now, I'm just going to enjoy the moment I have right in front of me.

Applying that attitude helped me through other difficult situations in the real world. It took me years to get a career and even a car. And it was so frustrating to not have those things for so long. But they happened--better than I imagined. I'm now looking forward to finding my own house and eventually a wife, but I have faith those things will happen in time as well. I'm just going to enjoy the moment I have right in front of me.
I'm not even frustrated anymore, I'm just bored

this whole nintendo following thing has been a pastime for me for a while now and it's finally sort of winding down I guess

I'm glad you're not frustrated! I guess I just hated to see someone feeling down and wanted to share my own experience. Sorry if it came off heavy-handed.

When had Nintendo ever gotten lazy when making a direct sequel? Majora's Mask took less than a year, re-using the same engine and assets and it's one of the most beloved Zelda games. Now, thanks in part to the pandemic, there's a 6 years gap between Breath of the Wild and it's direct sequel. Even Galaxy 2 wasn't a lazy sequel, in many ways, subjectively, it was superior to Galaxy 1. Where are these concerns for TotK coming from?

I just finished Crisis Core which may be one of the best Switch ports with how good it looks.
If a new Console comes it comes, but I expect Switch to still have some life in it.

It's not like I only care about the "big" games whatever that means.
Actually playing some video games instead of letting your mood be dictated by people who may or may not know about unannounced video games is a revelation.

not at all

we're all just sharing our thoughts in the absence of any interesting conversation

Do you guys think we are getting Galaxy 2?

Are there any theories about why it wasnt included in the 3d collection?
It's meant to add that much more value to the eventual Super Mario Galaxies: A Cosmic Trilogy. Please be excited for the higher price point this is meant to ease you into.

The Prime Remaster/Remake leak is the most annoying rumor we've had in the Switch era. We all know that's true at this point (due to a multitude of sources: LinkedIn and insiders), the game has been finished since last summer, but for some reason we still have to wait forever to see a single frame of it.

We need something else to restart the hype machine now
Honestly probably one of the most annoying Nintendo rumors ever, it's been going on in some form or another for over 4 years now. Over a remake(ster)!

I really hope this is a joke. I'm serious, y'all: take care of yourselves! Find something that keeps you motivated! Mental stagnation is real and dangerous.
Partially? 😅

I mean, being sorta neutral and calm is definitely an improvement after a year of almost constant anxiety so, I count boredom as a bit of a privilege these days.

Except I'm not that bored, because I'm constantly replaying the same battle in Chrono Cross trying to get a rare item drop that as far as I've read has a 10% chance of occurring so.. 👍

Well, I can understand that. Anxiety was an issue for me as well. Part of my solution was to refocus, but I know people deal with things in different ways. I hope that crap never comes near you again.

Thanks much. Refocusing is kinda.. the attempt I'm going for? Basically I've been dreaming of a move for years and I'm finally close to a situation where I might pull it off. But a few things have to fall into place first so in the meantime I'm trying to practice calming the eff down. 😅 If I manage the big move, I'll be looking to hit the ground running and exploring for sure.

Just so you don't worry. 👍

This, along with Xenogears HD-2D (and no, we don’t need the “fix the second disc”, just do a perfect translation and identical port in content with the new engine).
Ehhhh, the beginning of Disc 2 skipped over a lot of content, so I would argue that it needs it (especially if Monolith Soft/Tetsuya Takahashi was involved).

That’s the problem, MSI wouldn’t be involved most probably because they’re too busy with XB, it’d probably require Nintendo exclusivity too which S-E logically wouldn’t agree, and given the average treatment for S-E recent “remakes” I’d rather let Xenogears untouched by those filthy hands than they trying to “improve” it. Make the exact game we know and love with its highs and flaws, with a new 2D-HD engine, remaster the music, upgrade the video Sequences and do a new translation.

This is just anecdotal evidence, but the last 2 Feb directs have brought obscure or forgotten games from the famicom/super era: Famicom Detective Club and Live A Live.

Will we get one of those in the next direct? Maybe Bahamut Lagoon or Magical Pop'n (i think no one owns the ip)

Monolith Soft has multiple teams working on different stuff, so I doubt that availability would be a problem. Also, S-E has had its fair share of Nintendo exclusives over the years, most recently being the LiveALive remake. To your last point, I sort of understand, but if MS/Takahashi is involved, we likely wouldn't have to worry about any unwelcome additions/changes to the story.

Old Doug Bowser was hoppin' around, Tokyo City like a big playground

Oh. You beat me to it. But yes, that exactly!!

I swear between Sep-Dec each year I become a Famiboards recluse, hiding away from the shitposts with remorse and a general lack of enthusiasm for Nintendo in my veins, only to rear my head like the cicadas coming above ground, like clockwork, every January. I'll never not be excited for an impending Nintendo Direct. The leadup through announcement (and whoa, sometimes even the presentations themselves) is just a slice of magic.

The only MSI team I’d trust to work on this is Takahashi’s team AKA Xenoblade team (and probably bringing back his wife) because Gears is his and her baby, and just having they “supervising” wouldn’t be enough for me.

I don’t trust modern Square. At this point I’d even settle just at porting the Vita version “as is” upscaled for the eShop and other online stores instead of making a “remasker“ that is not completely identical or with MSI Division#1 full and sole commitment. And Nomura and his team locked with 666 padlocks in a cell far away from it lol.

I guess being a Xenogears purist nowadays is maybe an unpopular opinion :p

Any potential Xenogears remake would also need Soraya Saga involved, she was pretty important to the concept and writing. Didn't she retire?
Not as far as I've heard, but even if she did I'm pretty sure Takahashi knows how to get ahold of her 👀

Ah yes, obscure and little-known hidden gem, Chrono Trigger... :p

(I kid!)
Little-known to Square evidently 😅

I doubt they'd be just supervising. I always imagined a Xenogears remake would be co-developed, so again, I would not be worried about the spirit of the original being compromised if Takahashi and Saga are at the helm.
