you know for April they could just start selling super Mario 3D all-stars again to go alongside the movie, maybe even DLC/a free update to add super Mario galaxy 2

New Super Mario Bros Switch! Run and jump your way through 8 worlds of grassy plains, scorching deserts and icy tundras to rescue Peach from Bowser! Play as your favourite characters, Blue Toad, Yellow Toad and Peachette! Use the new Rat Suit to scurry around super quickly!

Super Mario Galaxy 2 is never coming to the Switch because of the motion controlled Yoshi segments.
The controls would similarly suck, but they could port Galaxy 2 in some way. There was a pull star level that was about as dextrous as Yoshi’s demands in Galaxy 1.

They should just sell a Wii Remote sensor bar accessory…

I don’t expect anything this week, but I’m not too sad about it.
I can’t wait for FE to launch❤️💙, tomorrow reviews will drop 👀

I love how this thread is so calm but the whole hardware thread is thinking that Doug is in Japan because they so sure are going to reveal new console in coming weeks.
they’re taking anything though. Their grandma could be talking about some Switch and they‘d take it as a reason to speculate on the Switch Pro RAM capacity for 2 months straight

EDIT: I see this comes off as offensive to the thread to some, but it’s meant as a joke.

Triangle Strategy's final demo came out 23 days before release, and Live A Live's was 24 days before release. The demo for the original Octopath Traveler was just under a month. Assuming Octopath Traveler 2 gets a demo, I'd assume we should be expecting it to be announced in a direct approx 3-4 weeks before the full game releases.

So, since Octopath 2 comes out February 24th, my prediction is that the direct will be on Tuesday the 31st or Wednesday the 1st. (y)

Well Dougie being in Japan for a Direct or a recording for one is about as likely as him being there for Drake as it's most likely just strategic meetings stuff for the next FY and/or current CY. ;]

Dunno, if you don't like the thread, you can put it on ignore. I don't think this snarky comments are appropriate.

Do they know he is in Japan on the regular? Like the last time he posted pics from Kansai Airport (Osaka) was idk, two months ago? ( just off the top of my head, I didn't go and check)

EDIT: I checked and he posted a picture of the airport in October and a pic of the Nintendo HQ building in November. He literally goes all the time lol

For the famous E3 2014 clip of Iwata and Reggie fighting head-on, Reggie filmed that from the US (if I'm remembering correctly), and Iwata filmed from Japan. As long as they have a green screen, they can undoubtedly film anyone anywhere for a simple Direct.

Yep. But if I remember correctly the E3 2019 clip with Koizumi, Bowser and Bowser (imao). That was done in Japan, Bowser talked about how they filmed it and how it was funny.

I'm going to choose to believe that was a one-time thing, because I don't need anything else fueling the "what if" part of my brain. Need to keep the anticipation reeled in a bit 🙃 I know myself.

Why do I try to speculate about Nintendo of all companies

Simple explanation:

Reggie vs Iwata was only two persons and CGI effects done to them, could've been done more easily even without them being together for the filming.

Koizumi, Dougie Bowser and Jack Black Bowser were two people interviewing and one CGI figure, so filming together might've been the better way due to positioning and both interacting with a CGI character instead of "clashing".

How many pages will this thread get when Direct is finally announced? $5 US eShop giftcard giveaway.

Let's have a little fun. Let's try to guess how many pages will this thread get when Nintendo Direct is finally announced (the moment the thread will close to be precise, so no new posts will be there).

This is something that every one of us can effect and it's not as boring as "Team January/Feb."

What are the rules?

You have to quote this post (so I can find you guess easily) and type the exact number you think the final thread page count will be.
You can send your guess until Monday, January 16th 3pm UTC. So that the final number cannot be guessed so easily (if we will get the last week January Direct).

The person who will quess the exact number or the nearest one will get the giftcard. If more people guess the exact number (it could happen lol) than one of these will be selected by random selection.

And you can edit your number until the end date. - January 16th 3pm UTC.

who remembers
Kind of surprised it’s been put in the vault for this long. I doubt it was anything to do with any problems with the game, because otherwise they wouldn’t have announced it, but you’d think the furore over the war in Ukraine dying down in the second half of 2022 would make them consider finally releasing it.

Either way, I can’t entirely blame them for sitting on it for so long. War is a tragically tricky business.

While it's true that Doug Bowser going to Japan is routine, it could also be true that Doug Bowser is in Japan right now having a great time playing Super Mario Universe on the Switch 2. Doesn't necessarily mean he's there because an announcement is imminent.

Timing wise Doug's trip is presumably about the next fiscal year, given that starts on April 1st, and that may well involve discussing plans for a hardware launch in late 2023 or early 2024. I'd assume, if there's a Direct next month, that plans for that are close to finalised given the need to liaise with a whole bunch of studios and publishers ahead of assembling the final Direct, as well as the need to coordinate things like translation and product launches that are tied to the Direct.

Playing Super Mario Universe right now sure is an experience but he will never get that feel as playing it first time and not seeing it in development. So in the end we are the true winners.

…and we just gonna pretend some math puzzles and cross words that amounted to nothing added 30 pages to this thread overnight didn’t exist 😂

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I remember that a collection of classic Pokémon games was heavily rumored two years ago, what happened to that?
It would make sense to have it this year, plus the S/V expansion. Can't wait for Pokémon Day.

Decided to fantasize about what I wanna see. Those are not for next direct, as each one is a big ask, so that's gonna be my 2023 wishlist instead:

-A 2D Mario that's actually unique. Honestly, anything beyond remaking Mario 3 again would help. New map system, new style, new gimmicks. I'm tired of "here's 8 worlds, you have an inventory, toad houses". if 3D Mario can play with game structure, why not a 2D game?
-Metroid Prime Remaster provided it has enough content to satisfy a person who doesn't really care for graphical advancements. It's like a 6 hour game, maybe even less than that, considering I remember it super well, and since "lowered price" isn't a thing for Nintendo, I'd settle for a few new things, even if it's like an achievement system and some unlockables
-Donkey Kong stuff. Don't care what it is, do care about devs learning from Retro's fantastic worldbuilding and atmosphere
-A 3D Mario. Gonna guess Odyssey 2 isn't a thing anymore, but it's been quite a while, and Bowser's Fury isn't big enough to call it a full game. Show me what you have.
-Metroid Prime 4. As with the above, it's time. Frankly, my biggest wish for any Metroid is that it's gonna lean into horror elements a bit more. Not anything jumpscary, but just more opressive. Think Super Metroid's wrecked ship and the like.
-Silksong. Probably coming out this year anyway, but there's definitely gonna be a date trailer.
-Mega Man stuff. Going into other companies here, but the last 2 titles are very Nintendo-like, so have a chance of appearing on Directs, I feel. Mega Man has been kind of dormant with collections and fairly safe 9-11 entries. I'm not the biggest X fan, but can we get something more than 8 levels and a few more? That said, I would take Mega Man 12. 11 was good, and is probably my favorite of the classic series.

Last few hours and giveaway ends. Try your instinct and quess the number.
There will be no record of this thread when the next Direct airs. We will not even be a thought in the heads of our distant descendants. Drifting among the sea of stars, their lives will be completely different from ours.
And yet, I hope that they will share similar feelings of happiness and joy when the next Nintendo Direct is announced through an intergalactic web, finally allowing the new humans to play Resident Evil 4 port on Switch 2.

I'm morbidly curious to see Kingdom Come but it keeps on NOT getting showed. I hope that next month direct will show it. And I'm somehwat confident that it will look decent.

I just finished that section of BOTW where you collect the 20 shock arrows while avoiding the Lynel, then diving off of the peak down to Vah Ruta.

My attempts to forget as much of the experience as possible while remembering how much I loved it six years ago have been well worth it. I forgot, after several Game Over screens, that I’m not meant to fight the Lynel.

Incredible game.

Same. I go through this thing where I really love Fire Emblem when I play it but I always kinda forget how much I love it when new entries are announced.

I saw engage initially and was like that looks fine. But when those previews dropped it became the only game I want to play.

I never had to go get the shock arrows there because I did another divine beast first and alrd got shock arrows in that area. So I was like "I don't even need to sneak around here" lol

I wish I could get models/figurines of light and dark suit Samus. I know they did the light suit a while back, but I don't think they ever did the dark suit. Preordered me the Dread statue that's happening, which is exciting because I love that power suit design.

Do you guys think we are getting Galaxy 2?

Are there any theories about why it wasnt included in the 3d collection?
I don’t think we will but I also think the “because of Yoshi!” theory is really weak.
They made the entireity of Skyward Sword into button controls for handheld play and yet some grappley point-n-press mechanic is too much? Yeah hard doubt on that one.
