Since Nintendo doesn't respect patterns anymore, I am going with January here.

And Silksong is going to be in it. I believe.

There's also the possibility that we get Metroid this month, a Partner Showcase in February, and a Zelda Direct in between. Kinda a chaotic neutral option.

Another thought I had was that a Nintendo Direct @ E3 2023 might be happening this year, so Nintendo might want to do it in January this time...Possibly.

the more I think about the more unnerving I find the prospect of a partner showcase in Q1

this is usually Nintendo's time. even if they're winding things down a general mini, or even a mega mini like March 2020, shouldn't be too much to expect.

If Metroid is showing up at whatever they have next then it's not a partner.

Could be a twitter direct though.

Feeing team January this year, although either a partner or a mini like in 2018

Normally yes, but most of the first party lineup is locked in until June. The only game we really need info for is Zelda, and I could see that getting its own Direct pretty soon.

Scenario 1: normal Nintendo

January: Pokemon Direct/Presents
February: General Direct on the 8th
March: Zelda Direct

Scenario 2: Tight-lipped Nintendo

January: Pokemon Direct/Presents, Direct Mini
February: You get nothing
March: Zelda Direct

Scenario 3: Naughty Nintendo

January: Pokemon Direct/Presents, new game announcement
February: Partner Showcase
March: Zelda Direct, another game announcement

Scenario 4: Out of fucks Nintendo

January: Pokemon Direct/Presents
February: Partner Showcase
March: Zelda trailer confirming the OLED model

You're forgetting scenario 5:

January: Development update for the Metroid Prime series

my dear boy, if there's anything the past few years have taught us it's that direct strategy has nothing to do with what's actually coming, it's all about conveying the state of the brand

ongoing dlc for mario kart, maybe splatoon, maybe xenoblade

zelda which we know nothing about

the bing bong movie

there are plenty of reasons to convey a strong presence for nintendo switch even if they could say nothing

Why are we thinking a Pokemon Direct will be in January? February seems a lot more likely to me. I doubt they announce DLC until S/V is decently patched up.

Here we go! Always one of the most exciting parts of a new year.

Team February now and forever. January Directs are a think of the past.

I don't want to even imagine the backlash if Game Freak announces DLC before Scarlet and Violet are patched. It would make the dex cut backlash look tame in comparison.

Actually I had prepared a long story on how team February will win but I ditched that since we all know it's going to happen. Team January go home.

They've done a couple of Pokémon Presents in January but I'd advise anyone betting to go with Feb. 27

I doubt we'll hear about Pikmin 4 before the E3/Summer direct. I personally think it's the big EPD game of the second half of the year despite what everyone is saying.

Tune in for a #NintendoDirect livestream featuring roughly 40 minutes of information mostly focused on The Legend of Zelda : Tears of the Kingdom

For those who have been following Fire Emblem news more closely than me, how likely is a Fire Emblem Engage direct? Is it needed for the game?

those games are SMALL POTATOES next to a BIG MONEY game like PIKMIN 3.99€

Pikmin 4 will fail because of you and these wishes and we will never get a new Pikmin game again...

That's right...It it will go in the same place as other Nintendo IP's that hadn't had a new game in years...Do you want that???
