Amiibo are going to be one of those things that supremely annoy me because they came out in such huge amounts during my college years when my disposable income was fairly non-existent or was spent on activities with others, and that subsequent big restocks also came when my money wasn't the greatest for Amiibo. I mean I managed to amass around 45 of them total across all the series, so I have plenty, but most are recent and I'm definitely missing a LOT that I would like to have gotten over the years. I definitely passed up Snake more time then I should have for example and then I never got Mewtwo or ESPECIALLY THE DAMN PIKMIN AMIIBO.

To be fair a big part of this was me deciding I didn't need to get so many of these collectables and get sucked into something that takes up space, but I did a pretty big u-turn on that, especially as their quality rose.

That said, I'm especially excited for these announced properly release date wise today and I still need to pick up the Squid Sisters and the new Inkling and Octoling Amiibo from Splatoon 3 that look genuinely awesome.

Also hoping the Canadian Best Buy restock of Corrin Player 2 holds for the US and thus I can get her along with any other Fire Emblem characters that might get reprinted like Ike or Roy.

I suspect the reason they’ve seemingly been pushed back and swapped with Kazuya is because they’re gonna release alongside (or shortly before) an update to Xenoblade Chronicles 3 that will add support for them. After all, the game supports the Shulk amiibo, and the DLC is still in active development, so I’d be shocked if that doesn’t happen.
 
Can you buy these amiibo through Nintendo's online store, or do you have to get them through retailers and hope for the best that they won't sell out?

I have not played Kingdom Hearts nor does it interest me much, but... you cannot do an Amiibo of every single character and then skip the FINAL one.

I’m pretty sure the My Nintendo Store doesn’t sell new amiibo on release, at least outside of Japan, so you’ll have to wait until other retailers put up preorders. As long as you stay on top of it and keep an eye out for when preorders go live (I’m sure someone will post in this thread when that happens) amiibo aren’t really that hard to get these days. Gone are the days where you had to wait in line overnight outside physical stores, at least! lol

The more I think about this, I think it'll happen. I think it'll be a discussion they have later on the year, announced in 2023 but won't release until 2024.

I'll accept the wait, as long as it happens eventually XD If it DOES happen, then yeah I can totally see it take at least that long.
 
I can live with Sora being a 2024 release as long as it comes one way or another.

Since we have quite a bit of activity in the thread today, anyone have any 2023 hopes for more amiibos besides Smash? I can think of a few games where we could get a release.

  • The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
  • Pikmin 4
  • Metroid Prime 1 (I know this is rumored, but the last two Metroid games were paired with amiibo releases so I'm throwing it out there)

There will be more Splatoon 3 series amiibo, that's for sure.

The idols (Frye, Shiver and Big man) will definitely be getting a new 3 pack. There may well also be a set alongside the DLC, same as Octo expansion got a set of Octoling Boy/Girl and Octopus. Whether there's a second, alternate set of colours for the basic Inkling/Octoling/Small Fry amiibo we've already got is to be seen, but has precedent from the previous two games already.
 
Maybe I'm a little naive in thinking this, but I would assume these third party character inclusions when talking to the IP owners must include a "will be made into an amiibo figure" as a part of the deal?

I think Sora isn't any different. I can see 2024 release though.
 
I'm still shocked that they never released Amiibo in card form (other than the Animal Crossing set, at least to my knowledge).

Surely, all those years later, there's a market for those of us who wanted the gameplay benefits but never wanted plastic figurines? I get that while Amiibo were the hot new thing you wouldn't have wanted to undercut that with cheaper, easier to handle cards. But now? 8 years later? Got to think no one would mind. (Fuck me, I got a bad shock when I saw it has been 8 years. I thought it was 5.)

I actually bought some bootleg card Zelda amiibo and they were fantastic. No idea why that's not a legit product.

There are some other amiibo cards besides Animal Crossing; a complete list of all of them is in the original post of this thread.

The big one that I’m surprised they still haven’t done is Pokémon amiibo cards (aside from the Shadow Mewtwo card). Like, c’mon! It’s too perfect to not do!!

As for why they don’t just make card versions of amiibo that already have figures…well, that’s just not nearly as interesting. The amiibo cards are already much less popular than the figures, and they really only make a lot of sense when it comes to franchises with a ton of characters that they want to make amiibo of, like Animal Crossing. Pokémon or Fire Emblem would also be good candidates, though.

Australian My Nintendo Store has a FULL restock of every Fire Emblem character amiibo. If anyone down here wants to grab them this is a great chance.

I wish they’d make non-derp versions of Marth and Ike to match the quality of all the other FE amiibos. Poor guys released too early in the amiibo lifecycle before Nintendo started refining the quality of the figures.

Preorders for Sephiroth and Kazuya went up today at Target, Best Buy, and GameStop, at least in the U.S.! Not sure if they’re all still available or not. Would’ve posted sooner but I’ve been busy with work today, sorry!
 
Also, finally got around to updating the original post with the most current info. Forgot to do that after the Splatoon 3 amiibo released, oops!

By the way, it seems like Nintendo of America still hasn’t updated their official amiibo site… What the hell is up with that? They haven’t added any of the new amiibo releases for the entirety of 2022! It’s honestly really disappointing… If any of ya’ll want to nag them about it with me, you can use this website feedback form.
 
Got my kazuya and sephiroth order in! I think sephiroth might be a popular one, and kazuya unpopular enough that they might not have made too many.

Well, in a way, BUT, to me, dusting off Amiibo and such is kinda calming, haha. It is at least a 'don't mind it' thing. Tho finding space to PUT the Amiibo aside when I dust off is surely hell
And this is just ONE of my walls, I have, what, 60+ Big Box game editions to dust off, too ._.

Oh boy, I couldn't do it. I hate dusting off. I also have some amiibos and other stuff on display, but in a closed cabinet. It also gets dusty inside but not as fast

Ahaha, yeah, I fully understand. I would have mine in a nice closed cabinet or something, too, if I had the space. But... I do not.
I rather dust off my Amiibo than my gigantic Loftwing statue, I always get worried I'd damage it D:

Has anyone been able to order Sephiroth or Kazuya in the UK? Nintendo UK VS just tweeted they're "available" but they are out of stock on Amazon and GAME and the Nintendo Store doesn't seem to have had them up at any point. Kind of annoying as tbh the past few amiibo releases haven't been a challenge to get so I thought we were past this.

The Nintendo Europe stores have been late getting amiibo since at least the last few amiibo, for reasons I can't even begin to guess on.

Amazon and game did have them, Kazuya was definitely still in stock as late as yesterday on Games website but that's obviously little help now.

If it were just the amiibos I could perhaps believe that, but I doubt it's that honestly. It's more the European Nintendo stores have become a bit of a shitshow in how they're run. Even ignoring the weird amiibo thing, they've had repeated messups recently including but not limited to them having to repeatedly delay the Xenoblade 3 limited edition, dropping it twice randomly on the store and leading to crashes, the Bayonetta 1 re-release (which they promised a second run of that still hasn't emerged, lol) just of the top of my head.
 
Unfortunately Target has my Sephiroth and Kazuya backordered now. Expected to ship Jan 27th.

Not looking forward to the mad rush for the Pyra and Mythra amiibo. Hopefully they anticipate the demand and have adequate supply, but they're amiibo so I doubt it.

Is it actually still hard to get Amiibo in a lot of places?
Here in Sweden, every online store has loads of them. You can see the stock on some places and many says simply 50+ on both Sephiroth and Kazuya.
I assumed Amiibo was super easy to get now but maybe it is just in specific places

The Anglosphere English countries seem to either have far higher demand, or far lower supply than other western countries. I can't begin to guess why that is, but it's the same in Germany where after seeing it was sold out everywhere for UK shipping, I got them easily using my German delivery address instead, even though it's not ideal.

Damn. So I guess I am lucky Sweden is part of a place that, for whatever reason, has it easy, when it comes to Amiibo. XD
Other stuff as well, rarely any trouble for me to get collector's Editions and other items here.

For everyone except Disney, it almost certainly did.

Disney is able to draw lines in the sand that Nintendo might have had to acquiesced to that others will not, is the problem.

I only take Disney slightly into account when talking about a Sora amiibo; reading interviews about Sora's inclusion apparently Disney was the party that was like "yeah sure, go ahead!" most of the time and Nomura was the one who wanted Sora's inclusion to be accurate to the lore of Kingdom Hearts. And given that Cloud and Sephiroth are (IIRC) Nomura's creations as well, I don't see why he would be opposed to making a Sora amiibo.
Then there's Disney of course, and while they probably want some of the merch profit (I'm not sure if with third party amiibo, if the third party gets a cut of the DLC/amiibo sales) there's a ton of ugly looking Kingdom Hearts figurines out there, so I don't see why Disney would be opposed to a Sora amiibo either. The only reason I can see because it's Disney, is because they don't get a cut of the sales.

Even if someone did say this in interviews, it's all straight marketing talk. You have to jerk off your partners in deals like this, especially when it's Disney who are ridiculously controlling in their i.p.

Disney are never like "yeah, sure, go ahead!" In reality but if you say that in an interview you'd get instantly blacklisted by them.

Like, we've known for over two years that everyone except Sora is getting an amiibo and we can be pretty sure that he's not at this point, and there's only one thing that's different with him and literally every other character in the game.

The Sephiroth amiibo is really spectacular in person. Might be my new favorite amiibo for detail.
