Sooooooo... Resident Evil Revelations 2 done.

What could I say about it?

RE Revelations wasn't as bad as I thought. I always heard the game was awful, but I had to do it, because I love the Resident Evil series. Now I've done it, I can say it's the least good I've played. But it wasn't bad.
The main issue I have with the game is it has so many good ideas but doesn't apply them well enough. In these ideas I mostly retain:
  • The duos Claire/Moira & Barry/Natalia. Claire and Barry are the gunfighters while Moira and Natalia aren't really good fighters but can be used to find hidden items and do some specific actions. Natalia even can see invisibles enemies and where the enemies are with some kind of sixth sense, which is really cool.
  • Game is divided into 4 episodes (excluding DLCs), and each episode is divided into 2 parts; the first part with Claire/Moira, and the second with Barry/Natalia
6 months later. Doing things in Claire/Moira part can sometimes affect the second part, and I think it's a great idea.

There are others but these are the two I liked the most. Fact is these ideas are cool but not used enough. For example, I would have loved to play more puzzles-based parts with Moira/Natalia, like in the third episode. Or
doing things with Claire/Moira that can have HUGE effects on Barry/Natalia segment, because it's too limited in the actual game.

Also, there are 2 endings, and the way to trigger one or the other is kinda dumb. I mean I understand what they tried to do but it wasn't good.
Speaking of endings, I can't not talk about the plot, which is not very good, almost stupid, even for Resident Evil. It ended giving more questions than answers, which is kinda ironic for a game called REVELATIONS. Ffs I even prefered the bad ending because it seems less messy than the good one lmao.

And last but not least... IA. God, IA in this game is so idiot. But not the enemies IA, no, your partner's one, obviously. Damn it sometimes was terrible, like when your partner decide to not following your anymore, or him being stuck somewhere for no reason.

On another note: I played the Switch port, which is good. Far better than my experience on the PC one lmao. I had some frames drops but it wasn't too much of a problem except maybe once. Also, gyro aiming is a bit weird. It lacks accuracy and did some strange things sometimes but it wasn't a big deal. At least it was better than aiming with the mouse in the PC version (I don't know how they ended failing this but they did), so it's better than nothing.

But hey, you know what? Well, I enjoyed most of Resident Evil Revelations 2. Sure it's not the game of the decade. Sure it has its flaws, and really bad ones at that. But even with all I said, it was for the most part a good time. Game is correct, sometimes average, but it's not bad as I said. I'm happy I finally did it. It was a guilty pleasure that ended being cool enough to keep me playing, and with all its very good ideas it was a good time. I'll give it a 6 out of 10!

Aaaaaand finally I can feature my Resident Evil badge! Hopefully I'll get the other soon :giggle:
EDIT: I can't choose anymore to feature or not my badges, is that normal? @Dopply
You can only feature four badges on your profile. Choose wisely!

Also, was this Revelations playthrough on a hard mode? Sorry I can't quite tell!

Oooh I thought it was 5 badges! Everything is clear now ahah

Nope, this playthrough was on Normal mode!

I need to get on this though I am waiting on limited run to ship my copy of the castlevania collection.

I already know what game to play for the horror icon.

Does beating silent hill five years ago count?

Okay, I was just wondering if it was for a badge since you already had Bad Tenant lol.

No, only games completed during the duration of the event count, sorry. Yes, posted proof is needed. Also @ing me and letting me know which challenge you went for will definitely make it easier on me and the staff!

Do we have to post proof as well? I am not familiar with image hosting sites or know how to post images here from my device

Just beat Harmony of Dissonance as the first Castlevania game of the Advance Collection. Took me 6 hours and 39 minutes. I hope these screenshots of the credits and savefile are enough proof.

edit: Got the badge! Thanks :). Canโ€™t wait to dig into the other two games in the collection.

After much pain and strife, I've done it. I've conquered Castlevania.
b8180a55b8aa4e0c26df3608af1141b327274faf.jpg

It was an interesting experience. Castlevania is the epitome of an old school action game - all about memorizing patterns and nailing your inputs, all with very limited room for error and little forgiveness for screwing up, especially since enemy damage scales up the further you progress. Simon's limited mobility also can be tough to go back to since so many platform/action heroes have more flexibility to dodge enemies and leap over obstacles. In particular, the last room of level 5 took a lot out of me. Still, I persisted, and I felt myself getting better as I memorized the levels. I'm curious to play more Castlevania in the future!

I just wanted to share with y'all my experience on the game ๐Ÿ˜›

EDIT: was thinking about doing the Crissaegrim badge so I tried Android port of SotN with a Switch Pro Controler, but it's wayyyy too laggy with Bluetooth ๐Ÿ˜ž

This one for the Luigi's Large House:
Get an A-ranked (or S Ranked for Dark Moon) Mansion ending in a Luigiโ€™s Mansion game.
Game : Luigi's Mansion GC
i thougt i wasn't gonna get 100 Million because Area 1 i only got 3 M, then Area 2 16 M, and Area 3 45 M.
and that final boss took me at least 5 retry >.>

Anyone have any advice for the stupid monkey and Frankenstein boss thing in the original Castlevania? Not even getting close to beating them at the moment.

(edit)
kill me

(double edit) took a break and was able to come back and kill them. got lucky and essentially stunlocked both the monkey and frankenstein and hit them at the same time for almost all of their life then squeeked it out by throwing daggers.

I beat stage 5 in Rondo of Blood and it was only today that I discovered the quick save exploit. I guess it's no longer a hardcore playthrough but I just want to finish the game. The stages become easier once I play them enough, but the boss fights can be pretty difficult.

Also, before I figured out the quick save thing, I tried playing that stage (5) as Maria but had trouble getting through the first room. Even though movement with her is easier, I guess I'm more used to Richter at this point and will probably finish the game with him.

Well, these challenges have motivated me to play some games I've been meaning to.

Finally sat down and finished Super Castlevania IV for the first time despite owning it since I was a kid. Was too hard for me back then lol and every time I've played it since I've started it for a quick session, but not sat down long enough to go all the way through. So I know all the ins and outs of beating the first few levels, but beyond that it was all new. Finally discovered how the arrangements of the classic Castlevania themes are used (which I knew of since there's a sound test). They really ramp up the difficulty in the later levels. Thank goodness for save states (though maybe I'll challenge myself to play it the old school way).

Another game I've played this weekend is Clock Tower on the SNES. The use of sound for a SNES game is highly effective. Some puzzles were a bit convoluted simply because the game doesn't really make it clear something you interacted with can change its interaction after investigating something else, but apart form that it was a rather good game. Got the B ending, which I suppose isn't bad for a first run through, though I clearly missed some parts as I still had items I never used.

Obviously I need some proof and I'll have to get round to taking and uploading some photos (made sure to save before the credits so I can get those).

I've also got Silent Hill Shattered Memories that I need to finish, but I might not have the time to finish that before Halloween. Not quite a game you can wrap up in an afternoon.

Phew, so I beat the original Castlevania. I'm ashamed to admit I did use save states once during that stupid hallway with the knights and the medusa heads just before the death fight. I could do the rest of the level without getting hit too much and I was tired of getting killed there all the time and going quite far back, Apart from that though I didn't use any save states including the fight with Dracula which could have been more fun if he couldn't teleport directly onto you.

I did actually record my victory against him but for some reason instead of recording the game like it should have done it recorded my second monitor so oh well, this picture will have to do haha.

I wish I could say I enjoyed the game more in general but I found it to be quite a frustrating experience, especially towards the end where it felt like they just decided to throw more and more enemies at you as a way to make it difficult. Especially in one set of rooms where it's quite a tight space and they decide to just spawn in a bunch of birds dropping monkeys where it felt like the only way to make it was to tank the hits and trying to speedrun to the end.

There were definitely a lot of fun moments but in most levels I found myself being annoyed by one thing or another that felt stupid to me at the time. The music was great though and even for an NES game it did actually have something of an atmosphere, it's certainly got me more interested to check out some of the other Castlevania games at the very least.

I started Resident Evil on hard mode. It goes well so far, only used 2 saves and almost at the end of the first part of the game
(first time at the mansion)

Playing Hard mode quite change all of my habits within the game ahah. I almost killed none of the enemies since I don't want them to become Crimson Heads (and I don't want to keep the lighter & gasoline everytime). Used only 4 shotgun shells and 1 green herb (apart from the ones on a balcony that you can't carry). Gonna continue tonight I guess (it's 8pm right now in France).

It's pretty fun but I'm afraid it's going to get super hard after ahahah. We'll see!

Stage 5 of Rondo of Blood was one of the hardest to me. I remember it being so haaaard, especially the beginning for some reasons. Good luck for the next ones!

Finally got Crissaegrim on Symphony of the Night, first time ever getting it thanks to that challenge !
So worth it to spend 30 minutes trying to drop it, what an awesome weapon.

My brother introduced me to this site and I see the occasion to discover new games and replay some ! I think I'll go for the Luigi's Manshion one and choose Corpse Party as the horror game. Also need to do the Animal Crossing one uwu

Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow complete - with the good ending, just as the prophecy foretold.

So, turns out I actually really suck at Resident Evil 4 and my appreciation for the game can only truly be found once I've died enough times for the AI in Normal Mode to calm down a bit. Beat it in professional? Not happening. Plus, the game is genuinely terrifying, and professional mode actually made me feel too vulnerable.

After spending a good chunk of my night trying to JUST ENTER THE VILLAGE. I decided to put down RE4, and go for something a little more familiar and comforting. Aria of Sorrow was the last game in the Advanced Collection for me to play, so this actually worked out quite well for me.

As always, this game was an absolute joy to play. As someone who generally doesn't enjoy Metroidvania games because of my tendency to get lost, this game has what I'd consider the ideal map and progression rate to keep me feeling accomplished with every new ability & unlocked area, without ever making me frustrated about where to go next. The addition of having enemies potentially drop souls adds SOOO much to backtracking, especially since a lot of those soul abilities can impact your current trek and provide some immediate gratification.

Also, the story is so great. If for no other reason, I'd love to see this game remade just to have some more elaboration on the story. That fight with Julius always get me SO HYPED. Having all those iconic weapons used against you, as you are unwillingly using Dracula's powers to defend yourself. Brilliant execution.

This will probably be the only badge I can get during this event. I would have loved to have done more, but I've been really busy with work. But I wanted to make sure I got at least one for our first badge challenge on the board!

Also, if we do this again next Halloween, I suggest we get a badge for collecting all the souls in Aria of Sorrow! I've never done it despite playing through the game a couple times, and that would be good motivation for me to finally do it.

@Dopply if you need more proof than the gif, let me know. I took some screenshots of the credits just in case. :p

This was a great opportunity to finally get the platinum trophy on Castlevania Requiem, it's been a while since I had played both games to completion so it was a pretty fun experience to do it in one sitting. The pics are from the auto photo thing when you get a trophy on the PS4.

Ok I finished my first ever Resident Evil game (RE 7 PS5) and I don't think I can handle any more in this series. I went from playing with headphones on and the lights off to regular TV speakers and lights somewhat on. The mood in the game was tense and scary, especially the first half. It was a great game but not for me. At least I finished it so I can get that badge.

Now to try and get a Castlevania game finished

Tbh RE7 may be the scariest in the series, you can be proud you get through it. Did you play any other Resident Evil? Can't talk about RE8 because I didn't play it, but most of the others games aren't too scary (except maybe RE2 Remake), rather stressful

That's a wrap on Castlevania Symphony of the Night for the "complete any Castlevania game" challenge !

I think this'll be my last challenge, since I don't have any Silent Hill game, and that I never succeeded to have an A rank in Luigi's Mansion lol
This was fun ! Wouldn't have played that much Resident Evil and Castlevania this month without this community challenge, I had a ton of fun !!

I finally finished the project I've been working on every night for the last several weeks so I might try to finish some challenge stuff up before next week. I'm at 30% in Castlevania: Circle of the Moon so I'll try and finish that up here soon. Fatal Frame is coming out on Thursday and I think that's a relatively quick playthrough according to HLtB so I might try to go for any horror game with that this weekend, depending on available time. As a horror fan, I really want to get at least one of the Halloween badges :(

I have played RE 1 (PS1 and HD versions) but I could never get into them for some reason. I never tried any of the other ones in the series because I assumed that the story was continuous. Someone told me that RE7 was a clean break and I had it on PS Plus so I figured I'd give it a try.

I remember playing a bit of RE: Relevations but I don't think I touched too much of it.

Story is indeed continuous in some ways but you can play a game or another without any problem to me. The only one I can think of being related to others in a way it can make understanding of the whole events a bit difficult is Revelations 2 (but the plot isn't amazing so it might not be a big deal lol). I played most of the games out of order and almost never had a problem with that!

Finally beat Castlevania: Rondo of Blood after initially giving up on it 3 years ago! Stage 7... oh man, don't want to do that one again. The final boss was surprisingly easy compared to some of the earlier ones.

I have enjoyed participating in this challenge. It's a fun way to work on the backlog! Before it ends, I will probably do the Animal Crossing one and maybe try to finish a Resident Evil game.

There we are, Resident Evil Hard mode done! @Dopply

(I circled in red the difficulty setting as there is no indication on the first picture. "Expert" being "Hard" which is the hardest difficulty setting)
Never did the first Resident Evil in hard mode. It was super fun, I thought it would be really hard but tbh once you know the game, even a bit, it's definitly doable. I decided to kill the least enemies as possible to keep any stuff I could and it went very well.
I had some trouble getting into it at the beginning because I already did RE1 several times, but after like 30 minutes in I kept wanting to continue. Resident Evil is one of my favorites IP and the first game is such a classic, I LOVE IT.

Well. It might be my last badge for this event. Unless I find a way to play Castlevania SotN properly ๐Ÿ˜„

Hey sorry to put this thread off track but, how do we display badges? I earned a badge for the RE portion of the challenge, and I saw it under my avatar one time while browsing the site, but now I don't see it on the forums, even though it says I have it in my profile's "badges" section.

Click on your profile, then click on "Badges". You should see all your badges and can toggle a speaker to showcase the ones you want!

WOW! I literally looked right at the badges section and even looked at all the user profile options and I didn't see the speaker somehow! I bet my badge was automatically on the first time and I turned it off by accident, too!

I'm so sorry ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ˜‚ !

@Dopply I did it I beat Splatterhouse for my horror badgeโ€ฆ Iโ€™m never playing this game again itโ€™s too annoyingly hard in the end game and super creepy/gorey

I've been bouncing around between games because for whatever reason I have a hard time staying focused on just one game, even with a community challenge as motivation apparently. But! I finally finished something lol. Resident Evil: Revelations. This wasn't on Inferno, so it's just for the normal badge.

This was my first time playing it and I found it very middle of the road. The moment to moment gameplay is fine enough, for an action RE it felt surprisingly sparse on ammo (mostly because of how much damage the enemies soak, which is maybe the actual problem there). I'd heard this one talked about as a sort of synthesis between REmake and RE4 in the past and I don't feel it honestly. The swimming sections were tedious. I don't have much positive to say! Sorry to be so negative :p it was nice to play as Chris and Jill in the same game again, I will say that.

I have a number of other games in progress and no idea what will wind up finished next. I see a number of people in here playing Rondo of Blood and that was also my Castlevania of choice. My next game will probably not be that! It's hard! I figured I'd try a Classicvania since I've never played one but maybe I should've stuck with comfort lol. I will say the soundtrack is banging. Makes the retries not so bad.

update: the castle is veiny

proof that itโ€™s me in the lower right corner of the phone, date proof in the calendar widget

I went in thinking Circle of the Moon was the weakest GBA Castlevania, but it turns out I really enjoyed it! Give it a chance, even if itโ€™s slow at the beginning. Yes, I did spam save states at certain parts of the final final boss. shrug dot emoji do what you gotta doot

omg i just saw this thread. im like half way through one of the GBA castlevania games, and i bought Inside for cheap on switch so i might be able to get two badges.

ive havent even started the animal crossing event, im just gonna assume if it's half as hard as the easter one it's out of my reach

Nook's Cranny sells spooky series items, one each per day. So if you don't have any, you can just get three from the store to complete the challenge. That's what I did.
