This Direct was weeb'd up to 11. Shoulda done a drinking game every time a gardening/crafting RPG showed up.

Was kinda expecting some Metroid to balance it out... but... I guess not.

y'know I'm actually a little disappointed I won't be playing wind waker this fall

would have been very cozy

People really have to start self-reflecting: if you see a list of rumored stuff, and that list has literally everything you would like? It probably won't happen all in one go, if at all. Exercise caution.
among other things. Although its difficult to stay unhyped when it comes to franchises that are on their way to ''stabilizing'' or ignored in its totality. But that is only the fault of that person, not of anyone else.

Sure, the same exact two people who told us many details about the new FE game before that leaked (and was just announced) are making up the fact that Metroid Prime was recently remastered.
Or simply they got it wrong? It's not like they get everything right 100% everytime.

Hope you're not getting much grief after this showcase! What did you think of the show?

I don't deserve grief.

On Saturday, I was the person trying to warn everyone!

Tempering my expectations for next week's Direct.

Out of all the rumors, the new Fire Emblem has the strongest odds of appearing in this Direct. Because I honestly can't see a scenario where Fire Emblem doesn't release early next year. The game is finished and ready to go. I'll be a little baffled if it doesn't appear in the Direct.

A word of caution. I like Jeff Grubb as both a person and as a reporter. I think he's super cool. But judging by his tweet below, it doesn't seem like he's 100% confident about the Direct being a 'Zelda blowout'. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm interpreting his tweets? So, I think it would be wise for people to manage their expectations going into this Direct. I don't think any insiders actually know the full contents of this Direct.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but did Nate and Emily every give a date for Metroid Prime? Or was that just Grubb?

Not to throw Grubb under the bus here, mind you, just trying to get everything straight.

Did anybody else notice how early this Direct aired. Most main Directs stream at 6 p.m. in the west, but I guess they wanted to avoid overshadowing tonight's State of Play, which took that time slot.
Sony could easily kill this show in under 20 minutes. But I've seen enough bad streams from them lately that I'm not confident of that.. started the day excited but I'll probably just go to bed early!

Yes, after Marvelous and Natsume split up. Natsume got to keep the Harvest Moon name so Marvelous had to rename the series after the most recent title to come out after the split which was Story of Seasons. Natsume started making their own Harvest Moon games though so now there are two series: Harvest Moon from Natsume, and Story of Seasons from Marvelous which is the actual continuation of Harvest Moon.

This only affects the west. In Japan, the series has always been called Ranch Story.
Huh, well fair enough, thanks for the info.

did you at least like the Pikmin 4 announcement, even though it was little?

I thought the Direct was good but not great personally. Multiple games I'm interested in but none that I'm over the moon for. Fist of the North Star fitness boxing bamboozled me like no other announcement maybe ever lol, got my biggest reaction upon seeing Kenshiro and then....... I'll buy it for the memes
oh you better believe I popped off at pikmin 4

I was doing this shit

Really happy with this.
  • Fire Emblem Engage looks rad and my worries about the former Lords are gone. Them being Summons/Personas for your new cast of units is cool imo also its january thats way sooner than i expected
  • MARIO PARTY 2 WITH ONLINE!!!!
  • Tears of the Kingdom great title great date looks sweet I need to play Skyward Sword
  • Octopath 2 looks cooler than the first may try

Obv was hoping for Twilight Princess, DK64 on NSO, but those could still happen! Regardless it was a good direct.

Overall I’m ok. I would have taken ANY gameplay of Pikmin 4. 2023 worries me as it could be a holiday title. I’m not expecting Q1. Bayo 3 at this point is the only game I will get for switch for the rest of the year. There are way too many farming sims coming to switch. Everyone is trying to have success like animal crossing.

I like how Nintendo got the date for Final Fantasy Crisis core.

Resident Evil village is a very mediocre game. I recommend you get it in Xbox or PS. I can’t imagine it will be good to play in cloud if you wanna experience it. The dlc looks interesting tho

I for once I'm happy with no Prime HD. I will always prefer new games over ports of old games. Metroid Prime 4 >> overpriced port of Metroid Prime 1 any day of the week. Same with Tears of the Kingdom getting an official release date over TP HD and WW HD

I think that it's always important to remember that Nintendo runs a tight ship. Nobody ever knows exactly what's going on there. Individual things get leaked from time to time (usually stuff getting help from other studios like Fire Emblem), but the rest of it is pretty much locked down. That's why stuff like the Zelda Remasters, Metroid Prime, NSO, GameCube stuff, Donkey Kong end up just being rumors - Nintendo almost never actually leaks that stuff. Even the most tuned-in insiders don't usually have a lot of first party Nintendo stuff that they can share.

Can you folks like stop whining about insiders and discuss the Direct instead? It's annoying as fuck.
my favorite part was the kirby part

also the pikmin part

i want that pikmin shirt miyamoto was wearing

Or simply they got it wrong? It's not like they get everything right 100% everytime.
Sure but based on their track record there's no good reason to doubt they are correct about MPHD existing and being done, or mostly done.

AFAIK nobody claimed to know when it would release, just when it would make sense to release.

I'm updating my site with all the info and images and trailers..
this has been a VERY GOOD Direct

I get that people have different tastes, fan favourite at all but man

2 brand new top tier games announced as first party (FE, Pikmin)
2 very nice brand new games announced by big partners (Octopath, Atelier)
2 nice remasters (Fatal frame has never been released in the west, nor in HD, and Kirby still is a nice addition to an already strong Kirby presence on the console)
The most anticipated game/sequel ever hasn't been delayed (again) and has a firm release date
Fire Emblem, Kirby, Octopath and Atelier all have firm release dates, very close to today (actually, they all are coming in January or February)
To close the year, we just had Splatoon, and we are getting Mario Rabbids, Pokemon, Bayonetta + nice new IPs like Diofield Chronicles and Harvestella
Tons of products are receiving meaningful DLC (Mario Kart, XB3, Splatoon, Switch Sports, Mario Strikers), showing continous support from Nintendo (it's not a Babylon Fall situation lol)
Square-Enix is bringing in everything they can (Crisis Core, Front Missions remakes with the 3rd announced, Theathrytm or whatever is called, Various Daylife, many others)
We are getting also small but interesting new IPs like the Detective Game or Various Daylife)

Plus, I can't understand why nobody is HYPED for Fitness Boxing with Kenshiro

Honestly, if the rumors we heard are still going to happen eventually

I'm happy with trading all of them for Pikmin 4 confirmation

oh you better believe I popped off at pikmin 4

I was doing this shit

Happy to hear that! I think Pikmin 4 was the most interesting announcement to be honest. Other games either didn't interest me (Fire Emblem) or will be great games but the trailer didn't do anything really new (Zelda). Happy to know when I'll play Zelda, since I know I'll buy it anyway I don't even need to see more now lol. Other announcements were sequels that I will surely enjoy (Octopath 2, Theatrhythm, Kirby) but they didn't have anything really novel to inspire my dreams in any way. Mario Kart tracks were not really necessary to show but looked great in my opinion!

Really thought I was getting a new Fist of the Northstar game there, that could've been it. Honestly kind of still is my favourite announcement LMAO

Bayo 3 at this point is the only game I will get for switch for the rest of the year. There are way too many farming sims coming to switch. Everyone is trying to have success like animal crossing.
Animal crossing is not a farming sim. And i think most farmimg sims would be happy with a million.

Can you folks like stop whining about insiders and discuss the Direct instead? It's annoying as fuck.
Yeah, it really is. Like okay, I get, an insider said Metroid and the Zelda ports would be there. And they weren't.

But Pikmin was! That was a total surprise! And Fire Emblem is soon! And we got Tears of the Kingdom!

It feels bad to still be hung up on the insiders thing, when we now have a bunch of new games to discuss.

Lololol thought I would get the most emotional bc of zelda, but the A Wonderful Life remake takes the cake lolol still have my GameCube copy that I love to death, but really excited to be able to play it with the added content (and as a girl lol never got the "Another" game as a kid). Some of the artistic changes are interesting lol and will def have to get used to the new names

Other than that, super excited to have a name and date for zelda!!! I have so many questions regarding the trailer which is super fun to have. Also excited for FE even tho I only played 3 houses and the only older character I knew was Marth bc of smash lol they way he was summoned tho kinda looks like persona lol

My thoughts:

  • Farm sim and T/SRPG fans are feasting
  • Great selection for N64 NSO. Excited to play some Pokemon Stadium 2 and Mario Party 3 in the future.
  • Pikmin 4 finally after announcing development 8(?) years ago. Looks gorgeous too.
  • Octopath 2 looks great, was hoping they would've changed the 8 roles though.
  • Was hyped for Tales of Symphonia until I realized it's just a port of the shoddy PS3 version. Will stick to my Gamecube.
  • BotW:TotK coming later than expected. Still think the next switch will launch alongside it. I want to see more gameplay, but they're likely holding it back for a later event.

I'm skeptical they'd do a twitter drop for Metroid any time soon given there was... just a Direct they could've used. It doesn't make sense why they wouldn't have put it in here. Unless they're doing like... a Metroid presentation. But that seems even less likely.

If I didn't know better I'd say this remaster/remake isn't as close as expected.

I will be baffled if the state of play is better than this. I know a lot of Nintendo fans arent on the Fire Emblem wave but that will most likely be a 23 goty contender for me and its out in January. Exciting!

Gonna be honest. I only listen to one insider and she’s awesome.

Everyone else. It’s fun to speculate and to talks things here. But I never really take their word for anything. In the end. No need for the flaming. It’s just games after all.

I never expected revised hardware but I figured it was off the table completely the moment they recently announced the new Pokemon OLED to be released later this year. They're not gonna wreck their own sales like that. And I think they'd probably want that one to actually sell for a bit following release date on Nov 4th too. The Splatoon 3 OLED also just came out recently. These new releases need some room to breath before they announce new hardware and potential price point adjustments for existing hardware.

And that exact thing could be what's holding up some bigger expected reveals like Zelda gameplay or Prime 4 reveal, since they may be tailored for the new hardware. Could be holding on to that stuff so that footage can be used to support the new hardware reveal and show off graphics improvements, and to not give false expectations for existing hardware.

So they'll let Christmas pass, eating up a lot of their existing hardware inventory at full price and selling out of any lingering special editions, and then in February Direct announce the new hardware and old hardware price cuts. And they can hype the new hardware with long showy footage of Zelda and Prime 4's graphics. When it will actually release though I don't know, Nintendo does like to make us wait. Maybe with Zelda in May, maybe later.

(As for Prime 1 HD, that's just a rumor Nintendo made up in order to fuck with me on a personal level because they hate me and want to laugh at my anguish on twitter.)

That's my theory for why Zelda barely showed anything and Metroid was MIA entirely.

The Metroid Prime and Zelda port rumors are clearly the work of notorious prankster, Bill Trinnen, who is trying to set the record for the number of years he can trick someone with the same prank. His streak with Metroid Prime is currently at Year #4!

Sure but based on their track record there's no good reason to doubt they are correct about MPHD existing and being done, or mostly done.

AFAIK nobody claimed to know when it would release, just when it would make sense to release.

Grubb said it was releasing this holiday

I don't believe it has ever made sense to expect them released together. They will be sold as full priced (or $50) games separately like SSHD was. Nintendo is not known for throwing away money.
Why would they price a currently 25 dollar game for 50 with no upgrades? They're gonna bundle them together, it's the only way they're going to sell. It's not going to be any different.

Yesterday I listed all the rumoured, leaked, and confirmed in-development games that have been floating around either due to reliable sources, actual news/statements from Nintendo, and hiring calls. The full list is in the spoiler tag below:

At this point the number of potential things for Nintendo to show is very high. Between official confirmation, hiring calls, leaks, and rumours, we can point to a group of stockpiled/in-development projects that includes:

  • Advance Wars Reboot Camp
  • Everybody's 1-2 Switch
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2
  • Zelda: Wind Waker HD
  • Zelda: Twilight Princess HD
  • Metroid Prime HD
  • Metroid Prime 4
  • F Zero GX HD
  • Kid Icarus Uprising HD/mystery remaster contracted to Bandai-Namco
  • New 2D Mario
  • New 3D Mario
  • New Donkey Kong (EPD Tokyo)
  • Pikmin 4
  • New Fire Emblem
  • Fire Emblem 4 Remake
  • GameBoy/Color NSO
  • GameBoy Advance NSO
  • some kind of Vanpool project
  • potentially the next contracted games from Good-Feel and Grezzo
  • potentially a new Monolith Soft title that isn't Xenoblade or Zelda

Here's what was confirmed out of this list today:
  • Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 becomes The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, May 12th, 2023
  • Pikmin 4 transitions from Miyamoto-based fever dream to Miyamoto-announced official game, Pikmin 4, 2023
  • New Fire Emblem becomes Fire Emblem Engage, January 20th, 2023
  • some kind of Vanpool project becomes (I assume) Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, 24th February 2023
Out of my semi-serious Direct predictions, I was correct on Zelda getting a release date and a 'Thing of the Thing' title; correct on new Fire Emblem; correct on a remaster Kirby project; correct on an Octopath sequel. I was wrong on Yoshiaki Koizumi getting drunk, and on Eiji Aonuma dying his hair electric blue.

I still don’t think the Switch successor will launch earlier than holiday next year. They’ll probably have enough software to coast on the first 3 quarters.

No idea where that leaves Prime 4 though

I liked the direct but think they could have definitely improved on some things:

The Miyamoto segment needed to go. He just shouted words “Mario movie! Super Nintendo land”, then showed way to much of a mobile game no one cares for, and the big announcement was a photo. Pikmin 4 is coming next year it at least deserved a cool cinematic trailer reveal or something.

BOTW2 is coming out in May probably, no reason to not have a substantial trailer with title reveal

Otherwise I don’t think it’s Nintendos fault that third parties are all making all the same game. Nintendo announced a port, two new games, update on their most anticipated title, and tons of DLC. I don’t think it’s near the worst presentation in Nintendo history

When probably 99% of the noise surrounding the hobby itself basically stems from rumors and leaks at this point, it's difficult to tell people "hey manage your expectations." I didn't mean just insiders on Fami or Era, it's literally everywhere and it's beyond ridiculous. You take the speculation thread out of this forum and it probably loses 50% of its activity.

It's easy enough to stay out of the speculation thread since they're dedicated threads. What annoys me more is thread titles referring to rumoured games by name, but even if posters are considerate enough not to spoil a possibly hype Direct reveal, the occasional osmosis can't be avoided. For example I knew about the Zelda remakes and was thus anxious throughout the first long moments of the Tears of the Kingdom trailer that it would just be a bunch of old games. So in that case the expectations actually made my viewing experience more exciting.

Still, take away 50% of activity and what's left is ... more good talk about games than I can make time to read.

What do you think about the Zelda title? I think it sounds weird dunno.
it will take some getting used to, but so did “Breath if the Wild” at first. by the time the game comes out I think we won’t think anything of it
