This presentation is mad early. I will be giving my own presentation at that time. I might just tell the bosses and stakeholders that we should watch the direct instead, see how they like that.

Here is what I am thinking: Nintendo really wants all the Western countries to be able to watch this Direct live (except UK for reasons). Hence the timing, cause not everyone in Europe is gonna stay up till 11pm/midnight.

Which makes me assume there is gonna be something big for Western audiences here, that Japan does not care as much about. Both Zelda and Metroid fit that bill. Just a thought.

sorry about the thread derail!

I'm nervous about a potential Fire Emblem announcement. I haven't been a big fan of recent releases, and I'm even less of a fan of Colgate-chan lmao. I just really don't wanna be disappointed man. gib Genealogy remake

Well, good news for you, going by info Emily and Nate once had/posted, you're getting both, just not at the same time.

Alright, tomorrow is my birthday, which means they are legally obligated to announce Paper Mario TTYD HD

I'll be waiting, Nintendo...

Oof at the timing. I have 3 hours of back to back meetings as soon as the direct starts. Used to catching them as soon as I got off work.

I will say that this direct will be interesting. Nintendo canceled their e3 direct so anything can happen at this thing. We might get some of the shortest announcement to release windows in Nintendo’s history at this thing. We could very well see something like WW/TP HD announced and released within weeks.

Basically, Nintendo delayed their marketing plans but they likely didn’t delay any games. If the plan was for something to drop early October, early November, December, that is likely still the plan. Only difference is they weren’t announced at E3 in the summer and could get revealed here.

Super excited for tomorrow but 3 hours of waiting is going to be suffering lol.

Don't worry about it; the longer posts on the topic were mine - you simply asked a question about it!

It seems very likely that the new game's getting announced first; though at least we should get a Genealogy game before too long.

is GB/GBC for NSO a lock?

Hard to say man. We knew a new console was coming last year because of controller patents with specific dimensions. We haven't seen or heard of any(unless I am mistaken), so if it is to come, there won't be any special controllers which doesn't sound like something Nintendo would do. But then again it's Gameboy, where the form factor is the controller.

I am just laying out all the possibilities man.

If we get Metroid you're gonna see me melting down in here.

If we get Advance Wars you're gonna see me melting down in here.

If we get both I'm just going to spontaneously combust. Been nice knowing ya'll.

ayup.

i’ve been on the “game awards is the next time we really see it” train for a while now

A title and some new seconds of footage is enough. If they give out the title, there's no way it's being delayed out of the Spring 2023 window anymore.

About TGA's .... ever since Reggie left, Nintendo didn't have much for Geoff, if anything at all, you better not expect Zelda and be happily suprised if they do show it there.

40 minutes full direct at 7am huh
sounds excellent
that's right inbetween two meetings so as long as i prep for the second meeting ahead of time I should be good

Let's check in on the post-winter releases from the September 2021 Direct, which was also said to focus on games releasing that winter.
  • Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak (June 2022)
  • Chocobo GP (March 2022)
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land (March 2022)
  • Triangle Strategy (March 2022)
  • Shadowrun Trilogy (June 2022)
  • Splatoon 3 (trailer) (September 2022)
  • Mario movie (???) (lol)
  • Bayonetta 3 (re-reveal) (October 2022)
Maybe the March ones are debatable, but you get the point.

Nah, it's not gonna be there. They don't care for Geoff events anymore.
I think BotW2 in particular is a game that they’re going to want to market to the wider core gamer audience that doesn’t necessarily watch Nintendo Directs.

Excited for Twitter to go Colgate mad or for it to have been a fever dream and the next Fire Emblem protagonist actually has normal hair, like green or pink.

So being in the UK, I will just stream the US one? Is that okay?
It usually works, yes. But will your conscience allow it.

IT IS TIME

I totally get the idea of Nintendo/TPC saving classic pokemon games for their own standalone releases since they were incredibly successful on 3DS. But don't yall think putting them on NSO would be the smarter business decision? Like I'm sure there's millions of people who would stay subbed just to keep access to those games (especially if they have Home support and Stadium 1/2 support through N64 NSO) like it seems like it'd make them more money in the long run

It'll be at the Drake reveal event whenever that is. Mid January probably.

Here is one question, please humor me, even if it's dumb: Is the Drake referring to the Switch 2 or the Switch Pro? I have lost track of all the code names. XD

Honestly when it comes to Genealogy it's one of those games that has featured in rumors for so long in the FE community that it feels too good to be true at this point. You know when people posted Smash character "leaks" that you knew couldn't possibly true just because they had all the characters that everyone wanted? That's what Genealogy rumors feel like to me lmao. I know these insiders are reliable but I'll believe it when I see it. I just don't wanna get my hopes up!

is GB/GBC for NSO a lock?
I wouldn't say a "lock", but I would say fairly likely. Original rollout for base NSO was:

September 2018: launch with online multiplayer, Cloud Saves, NES

February 2019: addition of Tetris 99

September 2019: addition of SNES

So while fairly basic, the service did evolve into its present form within that initial 12 months. Expansion Pack, being the higher priced option, has upgraded more frequently, but still, I'd expect another major addition at or around the 12 month mark:

October 2021: EP launches with N64 and Mega Drive
November 2021: AC expansion added
March 2022: Mario Kart roll out starts
April 2022: Splatoon 2 Octo Expansion added

I'd say Nintendo cap off the first year by adding more retro content and GB/C is the front runner for that.

I was a bit distracted with my new playthrough of Shin Megami Tensei V

This is gonna get wild!

I think we're seeing the first full BOTW 2 trailer here. I don't think they'd ruin the surprise of its appearance unless it was getting a deep dive.

Also just realized I nailed the length and phrasing. 40 mins, focused on games coming through the rest of 2022

Those names are meaningless. Drake is the code name of the chip that will be in the new upgraded 4k capable switch.

Whether that is branded as a Switch pro or Switch 2 or Switch flinglebum is both entirely unknown and irrelevant.

Drake is the new Nintendo Switch hardware in development, we have no idea if Nintendo will call it “Switch Pro” or “Switch 2” or something else.

Technically Drake is the codename of the system on a chip that is powering the new hardware, but it’s sometimes used as a synecdoche to refer to the nameless new hardware in general.
