Rumour Metroid Prime remaster/remake planned for 2022 (UPDATE: new rumor from Jeff Grubb, see threadmarks)

Have Nintendo said Metroid Prime is their big Christmas game?

Pokemon clearly is and will sell huge numbers.

Prime will do record Metroid numbers just as it would at any other time of year. Nothing huge but good for the series.
I'm talking about Grubb assertion

Pokémon will sell huge numbers like it always does. They have a Pokémon game every year but it’s not for everyone and they should have something else too.

Im fairly convinced that that Prime 2 will come after Prime 4, it will be a overkill having three Prime games in a short span before Prime 4

Especially because Prime 4 marketing have to start at some point
That's what my bet would be. Odds are Nintendo wants to use remakes/remasters to cover the years where they do not have a new game ready in a particular series. Unless MP4 is further out than expected, like beyond 2024, I'm not sure there is much incentive to stuff MP2 or 3 in between MP and MP4.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Splatoon 3
Metroid Prime Remastered
Mario & Rabbids 2
Pokemon
I’d take out XBC3, and add in Bayo3, as July/August is too early to be considered fall/holiday. That would be a fair mix of core and casual titles, though I’m thinking they might want one more casual/evergreen other than Pokémon and Splatoon. Hard to say.

The big question for me is: Will they change how it controls? It can change the feel of the movement in especially combat, as already proven by the version, but I'd like to be able to aim with the second stick at all times with an option to use gyro as well. Love the game, but I don't think I want those controls again.

So the Partner Showcase Mini hasn't even happened yet and we're already talking about the next Direct, is that it? If true, it almost seems like Nintendo wants to make their own Summer Games Fest with all these separate presentations.

Xenoblade Direct last week, Partner Showcase this week, watch them do a Splatoon Direct next week and a general Direct the week after, then maybe throw in another Indie World Showcase and for good ol' measure, one for the Mario movie and one for the Super Mario World Theme Park in the US, why don't cha. And then to round it all up bring in a new brand, the "merchandise direct" in which they will only show you new merchandise they plan to sell -exclusively on the My Nintendo Store!

XD

Ah, another Metroidtober, then, I see. I'd take it!
I'm thinking November, for the anniversary of Prime. 20 years in November. Pokémon and Metroid won't overlap too much, they have different enough fanbase.

October could be Bayonetta 3, even though I was thinking August until recently. Or Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD, surely Zelda has its yearly release ready to go.

I just want GameCube controls. Anything else is a bonus to me.

There could be 80 Metroid Primes rumored and I wouldn’t get sick of it…
Did you really think there was only 1 Prime game?

Don't be so surprised. You know that Prime games reproduce by asexual division. Because of this mechanism, there are now no fewer than 10 Prime games in the release pipeline.

You must go. Get out. If you hype too long, they will hunt you down and destroy your wallet.

You would hope so but who knows

Nintendo is scared of doing a general Direct without BotW2 so instead they just bypass them until it will show up.

That's actually the reason.
Yeah I agree. And the fact Is that without E3, which Is a big event where you bring the big goodies if you Go, a General Direct Is not even necessary. Saving 2023 news for a later date and focusing in 2022 via separate Showcase Is not a bad strategy, overall.

Yes, im sure they used Prime 1 also to try modern controls, i think that Prime HD will use the controls of Prime 4

I wonder if the only actually announcment for 2022 are Prime HD and Advance Wars, I am convinced thery are going to drop it in Christmas time, because...well you know War Vs Christmas(money) we know what wins

So Metroid Prime 4 coming out when hell freezes over?

I will say that I am more than content with these coming to Switch, can't wait!

Wouldn't be a bit weird if MP1 gets a big work remaster, making it close to a remake (like Crisis Core) and then 2 and 3 also got rereleased but with just a resolution bump, or something not close to that MP1? 🤔

These terms have gotten so messy. Remake has always been a.... Insinuated thing, but the mastering process is a known quantity.

When making a game a bunch of assets are produced, audio and visual. These original assets are then compromised for various reasons, to either be able to run on the hardware, or in order to have larger areas or more objects, or fit on the storage medium that would contain the rom. When the time comes to turn all these original assets into the ones that would be able to fit in the rom and run with acceptable performance on the hardware, onto the commercial rom to be put on the commercial storage medium, that is called the mastering process.

When you revisit these old games for ports, you can choose to just take the assets already mastered the first time, or, if you still have them, you can take the original assets, now that you have more powerful hardware, and a better storage medium, and make a new master with them, with less or no compromises. Aka remaster them.

This is remastering. It's an actual technical thing that is done. Anything else is not remastering.

Don't know what it should be called of it's not a remaster, and doesn't make it's way to something that can reach consensus as a remake. But there is definitely a yes/no factual determinate to whether or not something is a remaster.

Reading more about this "remaster" really made me hyped for this. I hope Retro really changed up the control scheme.
I will see this as a little preview for Prime 4s controls.
Eager to see the graphics as well.

Probably my most hyped game for the rest of the year as of now.

besides that DK game that went gold lol

Advance Wars It's probably a nice niche-filler game in their internal schedule, so yeah December or August, which are not Easy months to ship a large amount of copies, are prime candidate for a AW release

For the near future, it might just end up being one. If each Metroid Prime is released separately as its own thing, then you're looking at around 5-6 months between releases at least, probably more. That takes you through 2024 at the absolute earliest, probably into 2025. And by that point, the next 2D Metroid is probably wrapping up development. Quite the shift after so many years of nothing.

It'd be funny if that happened.

To no new games for years, to moving up to Mario and Zelda levels of being guaranteed at least one release per year...
Nintendo took the time to actually market it for once and are now looking at Dread sales like, "Wait a minute, people actually like this trash?"

as someone that never got far in the Prime games (besides Hunters) I'm anticipating picking this up for the first time and enjoying it. Only ones I have played to completion is Zero Mission, Fusion, Hunters, and Dread.

Bayonetta 3
Splatoon 3
Metroid Prime Remastered
Mario & Rabbids 2
Pokemon

I read your post as “Pokémon IS the big holiday game” so I was addressing that. They always have Pokémon. I’m not saying it’s not a big holiday game, just saying it’s a given, and Grubb knows that too.

Wow you are in for a treat!

Hunters is um... Well it's hard to talk about Hunters and Prime in the same sentence. The gap in quality is massive.

You mean you didn't enjoy fighting the same statue eye totem boss 6 times in a row, to the backdrop of screechy arhythmic DS music that could have been straight from Desert Bus?

Nintendo usually markets Metroid not sure why this is a prevalent thing. The issue has been that it just could never really find an audience outside its core fanbase.
I know back in the Prime 1 and 2 days they had the odd TV spot here and there, and Prime 2 had a marketing campaign that (stupidly IMO) tried to compete with Halo 2's I Love Bees.

Other than that... Can't say I've seen much of any marketing in my 20+ years as a fan.

-Prime 3 was in the Wii Would Like to Play commercial as well as apart of Nintendo’s presser for the Wii reveal. Had its own Wii channel and was apart of the “Month of Metroid”
-Metroid Other M had a whole marketing campaign including a lengthy live action commercial
-Fusion had the tie in with Prime 1 including being included in several magazines at the time
-Hunters was one of the games featured for early DS commercials
-Zero Mission had the “Who Are You Campaign” along with Prime 2. They also did a live action commercial for it.
-Samus Returns was featured multiple times during Treehouse & had a commercial specifically crafted for its history. Also was apart of YT ads playing.

Like the only game they didn’t market in some form or another is Federation Force. All the others had a marketing campaign in some form or fashion.

It's kind of weird getting a remake/remaster on older hardware at the cusp of a new hardware generation. Seems like it would make sense to time it to release with the newer hardware if the point is beautification/bringing it up to modern standards. idk, maybe I'm overthinking it - it was an anniversary thing. OG Prime still looks great. Aren't too many games from that era you can say that about.

there's also a new game coming, so this coming at the tail end of the switch isn't gonna be too damning

I don't really count anything that happens at Nintendo's own events, but other than that I guess I'll just leave the rest at "fair enough".

The fact that I remember almost none of it though, even as one of the biggest Metroid fans I know... I dunno. Kind of speaks volumes as to the quality of the campaigns to me, personally.
