New account? Been lurking here since it got created, and have had an account for half a year. Drive by? I've been posting in this thread for the last 2 days lol.

I'm not questioning if someone knows their stuff, I'm just saying that confirming a direct for June and then teasing for weeks, knowing everyone thinks it's a general direct, is kinda shitty. The disappointment will only be bigger now when the internet have been running with the ''insiders confirm direct for June!'' and it ends up being a MINI partners direct lol. That's all, it sucks to be missled but I'm thankful Mario Rabbids will at least be making an appearance.
I think it's important to note that Nate also thought it was a general direct based on the information he had, then began showing more wariness as it got closer. I get the disappointment for sure, but I'd think it's more logical to throw that disappointment at Nintendo than Nate. We were all expecting a June direct anyway because of the typical schedule, so it would've been equally as disappointing imo no matter how we found out, if that makes sense.

I'm also looking forward to Sparks of Hope! Sounds like it could easily be the centerpiece of the direct.

Yes, I'm disappointed at the idea of a Partner mini. But that's on Nintendo, not Nate.
But that disappointment would not have weeks of build up, and would just have happened with the announcement itself. If insiders really have to leak stuff, I think they should at least keep info close to their chest until they know more. Like that Tom guy did when he pretty much confirmed the partner mini. I know it's on people themselves if they choose to believe rumors and get disappointed when it doesn't turn out to be like it seemed, but I'm just stating how I feel.

I really hope the return to a Partner Direct is just Nintendo fulfilling obligations to 3rd parties due to no E3 and nothing more. I really hope its not a change in strategy, coz with that its just going to reduce the excitement about future Directs.

Here's my theory on how direct prediction works.

Insider hears about a game A being revealed or receiving a trailer at a specific date, which falls within the expected range of a direct. Insider starts to dig a bit to know if there's a game B, C and so on.
Once insider confirms that 3 games or more are being discussed on the same day, insider assumes this day to be direct day, tries guessing the type of direct based on the scope of said games, and feels comfy enough to share. Forum enjoyer receives reassurium and insider receives clout or YouTube subscribers.
As the day approaches, additional other insider and his friends receive new info, and based on those, adjust their expectations, hence why it now seems probable that a mini partner 3rd party not first party direct is coming.

While I do not believe these people when it comes to specific unannounced games (star fox racing, Mario on playstation, call of duty switch, Metroid prime trilogy HD, GTA V switch, cancelled game revived by Nintendo, etc etc), predicting direct dates and some of the games being shown doesn't seem too farfetched to me and while not an exact an exact science, it's still fairly accurate within a week of the direct. Before that, it's not really beyond the fact that something is happening.

So my current expectation is that we're eating good third party games in a few days. And no, not RDR2.

So the ‘insider’ backpedaling has started already?
“It can always change” is the no. 1 safe sentence to use for insiders when they get details wrong and can fit their narrative. Not saying it’s exclusive to Nate but it’s been used by others in other events as well.

-When the contents of previous directs were wrong or the date was wrong
-Halo coming to Switch
-Switch Pro
-Silent Hill by Japan Studio
-Metroid Prime Trilogy HD
Etc

They need to keep the moody, electronic sound of the music. No live orchestration!!
They could go best of both worlds like Xenoblade DE: New remixed soundtrack, but you get to pick which version plays in every area, if you prefer the original.

Remember when Nate said that if the doubters would keep doubting, he would will a Partner Showcase / Mini in existence? Man, that guy has some serious will power …

Labo is amazing stuff. Got the piano a while back and it's just flat out wizardry. Can't believe how cool it is.

I love EPD 4.
Their engineering creativity and combining it with video game entertainment is really just flat out amazing. Like the Ring fit accessory. Simple but effective and extremely unique.

That's what I'm thinking, and 25 mins tops.

Yeah it won’t be long, I just hope they have a fair few good announcements and it’s not mostly just Persona as that’s something I’m not interested in (happy that fans get Switch versions though)

Speaking about previous rumours, did that ‘cancelled game revived by Nintendo’ one ever lead anywhere? Was it ever speculated on what title it was referring to?

Nate to all the haters and doubters the next time he teases something:

I’m caught up…finally…took all day off an on…I hope tomorrow will be calmer or I won’t have time to read it all (SGDQ starts tomorrow!!). Still looking forward to whatever is coming and the hard locks are exciting enough for me. Very excited to see Mario and Rabbids 2 after seeing that interview snippets post someone made today.

I'm sorry to be a bother, but could you maybe link to where I can see this?
Luckily I Yeah’d it since I’d never find it otherwise all those pages back, here you go :)

I think even if you weren't into the first Mario and Rabbids game, you might be interested in this one because they are really trying to differentiate the experience. Here's some interesting tidbits about Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope from interviews:

IGN: (With Soliani and Manzanares)

- "Rather than a mostly linear set of areas with battles sprinkled across them, you now travel around entirely separate planets, each of which is fully explorable with people to talk to and secrets to find."

- We [planned] a lot of planets," says Manzanares, "where each of them is very different, it has its own story and characters." The idea is to make each one feel different, offer their own diverse set of experiences. "The way it works is you arrive on a planet, you go explore, you can go anywhere you want on that planet," continues the producer.

- "Battles on planets now see you transported to different arenas, and the first game's XCOM-like grid is gone, now turning your battles into more freeform affairs, somewhat akin to Divinity: Original Sin."

From a Screenrant interview with Manzanares and Christina Nava:

- "I would say that the work really started mid-2018 on Mario + Rabbids: Sparks Of Hope. But it started before, because when we did the previous game, we had so many ideas that we couldn't put in the game...".

- "...we didn't want to go for the typical sequel. Even though people loved the first one, we wanted to make sure that we came back with surprises and not go for the granted way."

- "Before you had to click with the cursor and give information of where you want the hero to go. Now it's direct control, so it's really focused on the action. Which means that you can do a lot of synergies between the techniques and the weapons and the heroes as well. For instance, you could take a Bob-omb, but a few seconds after it's gonna explode - so you really need to throw it before it explodes in your hand. When we say real time, this is what we're talking about."
Great post SpookyTango!

Tonight I had a lot of weird dreams and also I dreamt the Persona announcements:
  • An exclusive Persona 5 2D gatcha spin off
  • A Persona 4 themed joycon pair
  • Persona 3 icons for NSO

It seems pretty on brand for ATLUS too.

I swear to god if he is right…

Yeah I'm not believing any "there's a Direct that will happen on this date," leaks/rumors anymore.

If it's reputable, I'll believe that something's happening but it's not an actual Direct. Why else would I believe anything otherwise anymore and risk the tri-fecta of:
  • Feeling shit for expecting something much more fun than what Nintendo's gonna actually give you
  • Getting shit from other people who think that it's 100% on you for believing that a leaker going "there will be a Direct," doesn't actually mean "there will be a Partner Direct."
  • Looking like a clown if you spend hours putting together a cool competition you thought would help bring the community together

I don't believe that it will be shadowdropped, they will at least give heads up few hours before and it will just be streamed like last few Partners.

They DO have an idea - the September direct is always a week or two before Tokyo Game Show, which starts on the 15th this year... so there's no way it will be on the 22nd.
Yes and it will probably be the second week, because Splatoon 3 launches on the 9th.

btw why can't I change my font or insert images etc. anymore? i am on mobile.

Not only that. There is a roadmap for the entire year, obviously with dates not being fixed but they do have a general idea what they are doing the entire year. Source: Kit and Krysta Podcast (I think it's even in the latest Ep out now). You know, the podcast from people who were involved in the creation of past directs.

September 2021 - General Direct in first half of the month - pattern broken
June 2022 - General Direct when sales are announced - pattern broken
June 2022 - General Direct in June - pattern broken
??? 2022 - announcement of General Direct always at 23:00 JST - will this pattern be broken too?

Nintendo really said, fuck the patterns.

It's incredible, nintendo finally get persona and the news gonna get drenched in disappointment and with how things are shaping it's gonna be one of the bigger announcements given they kept the switch out of the reveal in early june
Sometimes they're really the masters of timing.

Bethesda ported Skyrim to the Xbox One just to test the engine while developing Fallout 4 (although they end up publishing it as the Special Edition)

What if Retro Studios made the famous Metroid Prime HD port just to test ideas internally on the hardware while making Prime 4, but never with the intention of release it? That would make a lot of sense.
