@Lintendo beautiful city you got in luzern. I liked it better than Zurich to be honest. The lake is great. Your country is expensive af though haha. My euro trip is coming up on an end and I'll be back in the states in time for the direct
Ahh Nice that you enhjoy it there:) And yes, Switzerland is expensive AF.

Yeah I’m not an AW fan, but I’m picturing if, say, Metroid was in the same situation and it would fucking suck for me. I really feel for AW fans that the series likely isn’t gonna get the chance it deserves

I better get my physical copy of Advance Wars 1+2 that I pre ordered over a year ago. Yall need to stop thinking bad thoughts about a digital only AW1+2 release.

It's just sad to think that this is the return of the franchise after over a decade and it'll pretty much only sell to people that keep up with it, which isn't that many to begin with.
I think before the remake was announced many people hoped for the series to have a comeback like Fire Emblem had with Awakening, but now it feels robbed of even making any splash at all, even a small one.
Nintendo has so many franchises that have been dormant and this probably seals it'll join them back in the forgotten drawer.
Yep, and that's a shame because there is almost nothing out there that replicates the pure strategy gameplay of Advance Wars.

But ironically this precarious position might actually push me towards getting the game. I was not planning on buying it because I played the originals not too long ago, but now I feel like sacrificing some cash just to give it an extra one-unit push.

I think it's up to Intelligent Systems to determine whether the franchise gets a brand new entry. Like I said, unless this game sells millions of copies which I don't think it will or was expected to, I don't think the sales ultimately decided the fate of the series. On handhelds, IS had the capacity to make Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, and Paper Mario. But with long how it takes to make games nowadays, IS had to narrow its focus and of course they would pick Fire Emblem over Advance Wars.

Let's see for how long Nate's most recent reassurance will keep this thread from going crazy.

My bet is 24 hours, because by this time tomorrow there will be some folks freaking out about there not being an announcement on Friday. :p

I love your username btw

Until it's reported by outlets and YT channels that, "former Nintendo of America employees say there is no June Direct..." in a few hours.
I guess what I mean by meaningful conversations is not the buzz they create but rather whether the content is valuable which I argue it is not.

I think anyone expecting the bolded was kidding themselves unless they thought that AW needed improvement in quite a few areas & probably a major once over of the gameplay

This game is now a huge PR headache. They probably want it out with as little commotion as possible. I feel like a digital only release is probably a safer, cheaper bet for them.
They already paid to print copies they aren't going to thrown them away if possible, they will just not print more than the ones they already have.

So Guys how are we feeling? Still confident for the Direct next Week?
We're getting something next week, I can't believe everyone's already forgotten the investor meeting next week lol, it just feels like SOMETHING is happening next week, really hope it's a general Direct

I realize Nintendo has a different image going for it than some other companies and agree an under the radar release is likely, but huge PR headache is a little extreme.

Is Advance Wars just going to get a ‘available on the eshop now’ tweet? I would have thought they’d already printed the carts at the start of the year.

As a fan of both (they're probably my two top favorite Nintendo IPs) my pain is immeasurable and unending.

If I had to only pick one to get a renaissance it would have been Metroid though, so I guess this is the better timeline.

Presumably there are physical copies just waiting to be shipped since the delay happened so close to release. I can't see Nintendo just destroying those copies. It would be a waste of money plus the retailers who already ordered them would be upset.

See the difference is that Call of Duty's brand is being poor-taste war and gun porn. They welcome controversy.

True. I just meant that I can't see there being much controversy...well, genuine controversy anyway, whenever and however AW is released. Which I realize now may not be what the OP meant exactly.

I was told I would receive cookies upon signing up, but so far I have gotten none. So the jury is still out in that regard.
No no, when we say "cookies are provided when a new member joins" we mean that cookies are provided to staff when a new member joins. It's intentionally confusing because we don't want people to know how many cookies we're eating

It’s a cookspiracy!

To be honest it's now much higher on my radar aswell.

I think a proper higher budget Advance Wars could evolve the series in many areas.
I'm not saying they should make it overrly edgy, turn it into an action game or bank on Waifus and Husbandos like Fire Emblem, it's not like the series ever had much of a japanese audience really.
They didn't seem to know what to do with the series looking at the last game anyway, a remake is a safe bet, but this whole situation is almost worse than them releasing a game that was too different for the OG fans.

It's a smart kind of performance-related pay.
Sorta like when I used to joke on my old tinder profile "I'm taller than you in heels"

If I ever had a date that marketed themselves as 6'4" or higher in their bio I'd have to bust out the pumps for when we'd meet for coffee just to commit to the bit.

(I was not nearly as funny as I thought I was, and no one ever took me up on it)

Maybe a controversial opinion, but I don’t see there being much controversy if they were to promote AW now.
I didn't see much even back in April, but I know that's controversial :cautious:

Honestly I feel like Dual Strike was the pinnacle. It really did feel like a Smash Bros. Ultimate level "everyone is here!" game with much higher polish, higher quality music and graphics, all the features of the last two games mashed together and some new ones. If they had just continued on that path and built more and more on that game, I would have been plenty satisfied.

Really, the only area that I felt Dual Strike was inferior was just the overall balance, at least from a competitive standpoint. It was pretty much borked and not really there, which I think is the primary reason most AW fans tend towards 1 or 2 over DS for Vs. matches (assuming they aren't just playing AW By Web)

Days of Ruin was a great game all around and had much better balance, but I like the poppier aesthetic and theme of Dual Strike. If anything I'd like to see that game in its own, "grittier" subseries but the sales just aren't there to justify a split.

I guess it might depend on the region.

I live in Brazil, and war coverage has certainly decreased around these parts in recent weeks. But I assume in Europe that's not the case.

Just picturing vampire space jellyfish invading earth and Metroid Prime 4 getting delayed another few years. That would be some bad luck.

idk, in its own way Advance Wars is pretty darn poor taste - it makes war seem like a lot of goofy fun, when historically it's only rarely like that.

I live in Europe (Spain) and the coverage of the war itself has become minimal, almost all coverage is more around politics of the EU with Ukraine.

I haven't had a single reason to doubt there will be a direct next week. So I'm ready!

I'll be okay if it doesn't happen, but, like, I'm ready

I think Fire Emblem is often in poor taste with the way child soldiers cheer and trade upbeat anime jokes as they stab their 50th kill of the campaign, but to be fair there’s an even greater level of abstraction with fantasy warfare in general, compared to a game where infantry jump up and down on cities as they capture them.
