I don’t think new hardware is getting announced before or during the Direct. It distracts from the messaging of the impressive array of games coming out over the next six months.

I just caught up on the Fire Emblem leaks. My gut was to say fake but seeing so many others thinking it's true has me unsure what to think. The artifacting on the left side of the hair doesn't look too different from the edge artifacts you see commonly in 720p games on Switch.

What sticks out to me more so is that several of the other characters faces in that unit select list look like the exact same face even looking in the exact same direction with the exact same expression and only their hair is swapped out. I know modern anime has a same face problem, but this is on another level.
Look at the Atelier games. If anything, that reinforces the leak being true.

I kinda hope it's fake just because I don't like the hair to be honest

it's not like I have any doubts that the game exists and will be released at some point in the next like 5-8 months or so

I actually do think we could get an announcement ahead of the usual time
I think that if there's a treehouse, or there's something special about this Direct in some way (like new hardware, etc.), then it'll be announced earlier. If not, though, I'm still leaning toward just the usual Tuesday-morning-for-Wednesday-afternoon-airing announcement. Which is going to be painful to wait for.
The fun part is that it doesn't.
It absolutely does, to my eyes at least.

I honestly think you’re underestimating how quickly someone could feasibly generate images like these if they were dedicated enough. There are lots of plain backgrounds and relatively simple menus here, it’s not like we have multiple high quality 3D environmental renders or something here.

Also IMO, I don’t think the similarities to the SMT5 protagonist are really relevant in terms of proving this to be fake or real - it’s not like long hair is some unheard of thing that Atlus just recently came up with, and I don’t see any evidence that this is a “simple photoshop” of the Nahabino like others are saying. Yes they look a little similar, but not identical.
I'm fully aware that people with a lot of time and dedication can do impressive shit with photoshop. However you'd need a super faker or a team of super fakers who are good at both 3d modeling and 2d sprite work to pull off these images within 24 hours.

Speaking of the sprite work, you can clearly see mc as wwwwwwwwww. They clearly have some kind of white bandana or another white object on their forehead. That probably explains the weird artifacting some people are seeing.

Edit; looking again it's higher on their head, so it's probably a crown or tiara like what Marth wears, or another hair accessory.

Also looks like they've got puffy sleeves, which would explain the white at MC's shoulder level.

If it's fake (which I doubt), it isn't because of the white pixels. Those look intentional to me.

Wait, this E3 Presentation has been in the works since February?!
You're conflating the Direct Presentation with the leaked screenshots/Nate's teases, but they have nothing to do with one another. These screens (assuming they're real) are from the Chinese localization for the game, not the Direct itself.

Hell, it's entirely possible that these screens are legit leaks, but that the FE game won't even be in this Direct and will instead be revealed in September. Both of those things can be true.

I'm definitely thinking FE has a very good chance to show up in this Direct, but it's not impossible it'll wait until September.

The game has been finished since last summer. I discussed it in January and then mentioned it again as a prediction for the February Direct, as I did not have knowledge of the new Warriors games.

for those of us less than impressed with this little leak, has what you’ve seen left you with a better opinion on the main character or visuals than what we might get from these shots?

do they look ‘old’?

If you believe the images then you should believe the person who posted them saying they were an early build. I doubt you're escaping mc's hair but the visuals will probably look a lot better after polish and not being potato quality.

I don’t know who they are, and given we know the game was finished a year ago, whats an ‘early’ build even mean - 2018?

I’m just seeing if Nate can comment. He mentioned improvements over 3H, and I don’t doubt he feels that way, but that’s not my impression from these. That could just be poor screenshot choices, but I’d like to see how he reacts to these images knowing he’s seen the game already. If he can’t answer then he won’t

(Not about this thread, just what I’ve been reading elsewhere)

I’m surprised at the amount of folks who still think “I don’t need another game of this series, Nintendo should work on this more dead series”. It’s rather laughable, IS is just managed very well to be able to consistently have a steady release plan. It’s also just hypocritical, cause if it’s a series they’ve enjoyed more, then this “issue” wouldn’t come up.

Just say you’re upset that you hate how consistent Fire Emblem is managed by IS and you wish other devs were like them. That’s what you actually want to say.

Team "Direct announcement next week" feeling pretty good right now. I'm expecting Treehouse if that's the case.

Intent is to record either this week or this weekend, as this is the only opportunity we will have. As for airing date... maybe mid or late next week.
Looking forward to it! Any chance you'll bring in Grubb for another guest appearance sometime? The podcasts with all three of you are a lot of fun

Lol right? Fire emblem doesn’t come at the expense of fzero. And FE deserves its time in the spotlight, it was a long battle for it to get there

Whenever I buy a Fire Emblem game I also buy a Captain Falcon amiibo and throw it in the bin, and Nintendo observing with their secret hidden cameras inside every amiibo think "Wow we should never make a F-Zero game again to appease the FE fans". This is how game development works, trust me

If people wanna whine about FE getting "a lot of games", they should go back in time and ask why Skip was allowed to make 5 bombs with Chibi Robo before Nintendo burned the little bugger alive for our direct hype entertainment.
I know fire CR was a power up in zip lash

Iwata personally asked me after the Gamecube/Wii Fire Emblem games had disappointing sales if IS should be converted into a full time F-Zero studio and I told him no

Yeah I saw RGT85 tweet something to this effect which made me sigh.

It’s not like Nintendo isn’t giving us a wide variety of games Switch - heck, already this year we’ve gotten the long-awaited return of the Wii Sports franchise, the return of Mario Strikers (which many thought was impossible nowadays due to Nintendo’s strict control on the Mario IP), the first ever 3D Kirby game, and the first fully open-world Pokémon game. Getting new FE or Xenoblade games is not coming at the expense of a new Star Tropics or Mother 4, ok?

It does come at the expense of Pushmo and that makes me sad (I’m sure that’s a Nintendo call though as it can’t take a huge team to make those games).

I've seen that mentality about a couple of Nintendo's non-EPD franchises (unless they fit the image like Kirby). Like Arlo's video after the feb direct talking about xenoblade getting so many games. All these RPGs are apparently standing in the way of Pikmin 4.

Lol, Nintendo has had one successful mobile game from a monitory perspective, and that is fire emblem. That close to billion dollars should be having them prioritizing fire emblem games and new characters. It’s not that hard to see why (plus this is only the second game on the system not countering warriors, which was developed externally).

We're going back in time to Fire Emblem Awakening to get marketable waifus off the menu.

What if Nintendo has so much money they are putting a 60 dollar Mario Odyssey 2 length game into the first game.
