Please no, there are so many great DS Tracks and with the very similar 3DS Toad Circut already in 8 this would feel kinda wasted.
Also, the Mario track is a double tracked figure 8 with gravity mechanics. These DLC tracks don’t feature the unique 8 mechanics, so it would just be a very basic track.

Nintendo published 5 titles across September to December last year; currently they have just 2 games scheduled for the same period this year. That's hardly stacked.

genuinely I just want Waluigi Pinball

and it’s not even out of some weird appreciation for Waluigi, it’s just got good music

Sure, but the logic that says "maybe they don't need a Direct" is flawed; it ignores both the number of titles Nintendo actually release per year, as well as the use of the Directs to promote the Switch platform as a whole - Not just Nintendo titles, but indies, service updates, and obviously third party software.

Why would Nintendo drop all of that promotion right now? Nobody actually explains that when they say "they could get away without a Direct". They cite the first party release calendar, but not the rest of the software and brand promotion provided by the Direct.
omg dood I WANT a direct. my original post was a hypothetical situation that I just said I would be okay with

Chill out a little, I'm not attacking you - I'm asking questions to see if there's any other thought process behind why they'd drop the Direct format right now. I'm more confused why a journalist like Grubb would put the argument forward because it doesn't make much sense.

Nope, Tantalus already confirmed that they were not approached by Nintendo to remaster these for Switch.
Wasn't that specifically about TP? Plus im sure many people including Nate have mentioned that Nintendo wouldn't need to use them for the port anyway.

So do we think we will see WW/TP ports at the June direct or nah?
I don't think we do, and not because of what Tantalus said. I don't think Nintendo will need to use either of these games ahead of the release of the next Zelda, and I think with new Zelda titles taking so long, Nintendo will save the ports so that they've got filler title options further down the line.

My only thinking against that is that Nintendo really does seem to want to release a new Zelda title each year, so unless there is a new 2d Zelda or something, I feel like they would at least release one of them.

Nope Tantalus, who has been handling most of the Zelda ports including Skyward Sword has stated in an interview that they were never approached to port over Twilight Princess to the Switch. No one asked about Wind Waker though so I guess there is a chance for that one.
I know they commented on it and is means nothing, when company is under NDA they would say exactly this.

I feel like getting two remasters in a row is a bit much even for Zelda. We just got SS HD, slow down with the ports! Not every year needs to have a new Zelda game just for the sake of it.

That said, OoT and MM 3D HD? I‘d be all over that!

Have they made any Wii U to Switch straight port?

As i mentioned, the only reason im asking is since Nintendo has a pattern of releasing a Zelda title every year, and unless there is a new 2D Zelda game or something, the only thing they could release to stick with this pattern is a port.

I would imagine no port this year because they were planning on BotW 2. It’s a bit late to slot something like that with 6-8 months of dev time unless they knew well in advance BotW 2 was going to slip or have been sitting on a completed port as a contingency plan.

Sure, I get that; but let's say Breath of the Wild 2 is early on in 2023, like March. Do Nintendo really want another Zelda title out in the 5 to 8 month period before that? Realistically August is the earliest any Zelda port could appear.

Personally I think Nintendo would rather hang on to those ports and use them when there's a bigger gap without Zelda.

Tantalus saying they weren't approached by Nintendo means literally nothing. Either they did and they're under NDA, in which case they'll still say they weren't approached, or they literally weren't approached and Nintendo ported over TPHD + WWHD in house. It's not a big port job that they needed to contract Tantalus again.

Yeah I can see that, Nintendo does some weird things tho, I guess we don't have long now before we find out anyway.

Switch 2 will not have a new Zelda at launch so WW/TP would be useful to fill the Zelda close to launch role, of course it doesn’t replace a new Zelda to move hardware that is something another game will have to do, but is an useful launch title.

Yeah, I can't see Nintendo releasing any Zelda games near BoTW2. Probably won't get them till 2024 and beyond I'd imagine.

Yeah, they probably have a pipeline for Wii U to Switch ports that makes sense vs the custom jobs required (new graphics, control styles) for TP and WW back on Wii U

If Nintendo really wants to have a Zelda game every year they'll do that double pack in August/October, don't see them holding off on them any longer than this year. I actually don't think BOTW2 is March, I have a feeling it could be until even June. There's several examples to look at, Kirby was scheduled for "Spring 2022" and ended up 4 days after Spring actually started, and more FFXVI news was promised by Square in Spring of 2022 and that ended up being at the tail end of the season, so anything can happen really. It all depends on when Nintendo is ready to release it.

If BOTW2 is March I can see an October/November window for WWHD+TPHD being too close to BOTW2, but if BOTW2 is like May/June I think they still could release it.

Man this week is passing by glacially slow, I need that direct announcement next week Nintendo. Just the announcement will suffice, the presentation too would be a real mood booster

For a few years now, Nintendo has been announcing regular Directs a day or two in advance, but I remember there was a time when Directs were announced almost a week in advance. Am I misremembering? I think they stopped announcing it so far in advance because there were too many leaks in between.

They say they don't know what's in the Direct but since they only left recently there's still going to be projects in there that they're aware of, right? Or am I completely misunderstanding what they knew at times about what games existed?
Yeah but they obviously wouldn’t mention those projects that they know
