Starlink showed that an open world / universe StarFox can work, if you can avoid making it a grinding fest.

Limit the game to the Lylat System (that’s more than enough planets to explore, even more than Starlink) and voilà.

A Nintendo Direct usually isn't that far behind when an Indie World happens. Up to 2 months later, sometimes one month later, and even sometimes the next week.

I've really only played Star Fox 64 and Star Fox Adventures, does the series actually have a continuity/continuing plot throughline?
Yes. 64 > Adventures > Assault > Command were a connected story with callbacks. Command interestingly had like 9 different endings. Zero was a reboot that hasn’t gone anywhere.

I think if they ever bring Star Fox back they should treat it kind of like a comic book where they pick and choose what elements to keep considering too many of the old games are inaccessible and Zero bombed.

A new game that follows Zero wouldn't be much of an issue because it'd basically also serve as an alternate sequel to SF64.

Star Fox is in a weird spot because people see it is a Nintendo franchise so people expect it to get the full $60 game treatment but it's also in a genre that many perceive as being worth full price. So do you add things to increase the value? Or do you strip it to its basics and sell it at a reduced cost? Do people just want a pure Star Fox 64-like experience or do they want it to evolve into more?

For as much as I love Star Fox 64, a game of that scale probably wouldn't be worth it at full price. I think the series could expand the scope of things but I am not sure that is what most fans want.

Yeah a sequel to Zero would still be fine. I’m just saying they should feel free to bring back whatever characters they want, reference past events if they want (did Dinosaur Planet happen and Fox meet Krystal? Maybe yes but the details differ), or take and scrap redesigns of characters/planets they want. I think enough time has past that they should just make the game and story they want to make rather than worrying about the details too much. If Andross is back for no reason, sure why not.

I meant it as a counterexample actually
I know and I still think MK Tour is a good game

I think they should go the FE Awakening approach and throwing everything they can at the wall. There are a lot of concepts, story & gameplay) that can be used to make a sequel In addition to other new features to make it seem bigger than it is. It’ll also have to improve upon a few trappings that I think has held the series back.

then you don't agree? I think it's a bad game
I was responding in a tongue and cheek way that I though MK Tour was a good game when you mentioned it. But I don’t agree that it is a bad game. Maybe not reaching its potential or could be better than it is currently but not outright bad.

I think it'd be cool if a new Star Fox was recognizably Star Fox
saying this on famiboards

Star Fox Mobile
Gacha mechanics to get new arwings and pilots
You can all thank me later for saving the series
If it's a good gacha game f2p friendly and with good gameplay I wouldn't care really, I wouldn't play probably it but wouldn't bother me at all.

As always repeat:

Mass Furry Effect

Developed mainly by Bioware

The return of the unprecedented partnership.

EDIT: To not make a 2nd post, if Indies World happens this week (either wednesday or thursday), then its probably we will not have mayor news until june where we should get a pokemon direct by june 8/9th and then nintendo direct by june 14th (following by a threehouse). We can have some "minor news" like splatoon 3, xeno 3, mario strikers or fe 3 hopes tibits. June Direct announcement can happen by late this month. IMO, if a game will be release around august, it will be either zelda wiiu ports (can be easily announced at e3) or advance wars 1+2 than can be re-announced via twitter.

I think Nintendo and Bandai Namco should give the Star Fox Assault formula another try.

I remember their being a special presentation to announce Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Evee in late May but I can't exactly remember what was done for Sword and Shield. The games had already been announced by this time in 2019. I think they had a Pokemon Direct prior to E3 and they had a brief showing during the E3 presentation correct?

Indieworld > Nintendo Direct

Okay not really but I still love them to death
Some indie worlds have definitely surpassed some Directs imo. For example I loved the one with A Short Hike, Spiritfarer, Hades, Hypnospace Outlaw, Manifold Garden, Raji, Subnautica, Garden Story, Card Shark, Bear and Breakfast etc.

Yes, they had a Pokemon Direct the week prior to E3 Direct. They give more details on Sword/Shield. Then S/S got even more info at E3 Direct and its own threehouse segment,

In 2017 they do the same, a pokemon direct prior to E3, they announced there Pokken DX for Switch and Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon for N3DS.

In 2020, despite prime COVID era, they do 2 presentations where the main announcements were New Snap and Unite (+ a few mobile titles/updates and first S/S expansion)

In 2021 they didn't to nothing, in fact, there was no pokémon news at E3 Direct.

Given this, as this year we are getting a new generation I'm fairly certain they will repeat the same marketing cycle as Sword/Shield.

Hey guess what

I enjoyed Star Fox Zero

I woud be willing to play Star Fox Zero again (my hard drive connected to the Wii U with all my saves died a few day after btw) but with actual good controls and an improved pacing during some missions.

Bring back the multiple roads, different endings and fun action.

Looks like we may be getting an eventful week, MH Rise Sunbreak event tomorrow and Indie World this week, most likely on Wednesday.

I tend to prefer the general Directs but it'd feel weird to not have an Indie World between the Spring and E3 Directs. Even if they don't show anything for me, I like it when they give some time to lesser known devs and indie scenes. Usually it's all about the "big" game dev countries like the US, Sweden etc.

The wait for the MH Rise Showcase was much easier. Mainly due to some other things that went on in my private live (positive things luckily). Very curious what they will show tomorrow :D.

Frankly i'm not looking forward to Indies right now as i would've been in the past. If Sports Story shows up it will be nice, but otherwise... i'm just waiting for the Direct

Same here but due to life being so busy lol. I'm just really excited to sink into MH again.

The lack of Crossplay between Switch and Pc killed any hype I had for Sunbreak.
Not being able to play the game with my gf is such a bummer.

Woohoo! Glad to join the new community. Nintendo discussion is dead elsewhere...

Really hope Ninty brings it this summer. Really looking to Bayo3, even though I'm a bit concerned about Platinum. Metal Slug Tactics is my big one. I wonder what else they have planned? Zelda WW/TP? MP remastered? October is a big month that's empty. Probably for Bayo3

How dare you enjoy a game on Famiboards that I personally do not enjoy. You should be punished to the highest extent, mods should rain hell and Supreme justice towards you as you peirce through the void of chaos. Never to be seen again.

You have been reported, excommunicated, and shunned. Off with you, you scoundrel.

I'll only take a new Star Fox if it's an Adventures sequel.

I'll say this: I'd be more than down for an "Adventures" type of game, IF it was Fox and pals exploring and surviving on a hostile world together, while also utilizing whatever weaponry and machinery they have access to innately, lift from their opposition and perhaps even have ROB build/upgrade for them.

Bump the whole makeshift "prime directive" thing that prevented Fox from using his Blaster in Adventure, just for the trite reason of forcing him to use Krystal's staff for 20-30 hours. A lot of things in that game could've been resolved in 5-10 if they just allowed Fox to put a blaster bolt between a Sharpclaw's eyes. LMAO

Shit y'all, we're the only Nintendo fans left. Pressure's on, no one dare say a bad word about them
