Basically Putin is invading Ukraine now
yeesh there is a fucking simpsons gif for everything, christ how much does this show predict so much right?!
Fucking megalomaniac.
no don't start that war fear mongering shitWell......
This could maybe the start of WW3.....
I highly doubt anybody is going to instigate World War 3 over this situationWell......

I know I'm not in danger in Germany, but this is still so fucked up and isn't helping with my depressions one bit ...
I haven't seen any of the mainstream news media sites cover the full extent of his speech beyond the Donetsk/Luhansk situation, do you have a link to some reports on his threats against the other neighbouring countries (outside of Russia-boosting sites like RT etc.)? ThanksDid anyone of you see his speech where he ordered the invasion? An hour of history revinism and conspiracy theories.
He said it right into our face, that he want the borders of the UDSSR and the russian empire ( 1721-1917) back!!! He not only declared war on Ukraine, but on all of europe. Closing with, that anyone who is not accepting his terms, is responsible for a bloodbath.
He is going full Hitler- mode now. Its the speach of an absolute madman. Nothing sane about it. Even his comrades Lawrow and Co looked crumbled and terrified as they lustened.. A Nightmare come true.

If I remember correctly, CNN International covered part of it, before Putin went more unhinged than when he started the speech. Mark MacKinnon from The Globe and Mail was also live tweeting translated key moments from the speech. The most noticeable of course being:I haven't seen any of the mainstream news media sites cover the full extent of his speech beyond the Donetsk/Luhansk situation, do you have a link to some reports on his threats against the other neighbouring countries (outside of Russia-boosting sites like RT etc.)? Alright, there's no need for fear-mongering.To be honest, i'm not sure about that in the long term. His speech was very clear, that we are his enemys. He threatened all of east europe, the baltics, former soviet states and finland, that were once part of the russian or soviet empire. And so was east germany...
You have to differenciate between a speech for his nation and the diplomatic talks which are running on the backround on a political, militarily and intelligence level. So if he says that he wants annex europe, he just wants to ride the nationalism wave domesticly. Russias economy has the size of portugals. They cant annex europe. Its just talking. To be honest, i'm not sure about that in the long term. His speech was very clear, that we are his enemys. Right, I saw that too. But that doesn't make it necessary to tell another member they're in danger.People also told me that before and sweared to me, Putin would not invade...worked well...
Why are people so naive? Putin basically told us yesterday, it' s his holy right and duty to take back the russian empire. And that he will take it back with force and blood...
I highly doubt anybody is going to instigate World War 3 over this situation

Yeah, I'll try it, although it's not easy.Maybe try taking a break from reading news? There is nothing you can do about the situation, worrying about something you have no influence on is pointless. Works for me at least when my anxieties flair up.
Source: DW.comGerman Chancellor says Nord Stream 2 cannot go ahead
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that Nord Stream 2 cannot go ahead now in these crisis circumstances. He said the approval process has been halted.
Scholz also commended Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on his unwillingness to be provoked into a major conflict.
I mean... the bloody thing should've never been started in the first place.
Nord Stream 2 wasn’t even in use so there is no loss for Russia or Germany besides the planning and construction costs. The pipeline was build so that Russia can skip Ukraine and keep pressure on them but this won’t be necessary If Russia installs a puppet government in Ukraine.Sadly we're dependent on gas for heating. And this isn't that bad of an idea on paper. Even the US, who wanted us to stop with this, imports gas from Russia.
Now with what Putin is doing it should of course be stopped, but we need a new energy strategy asap.
I'm a bit impressed that we halted Nord Stream 2 tbh., didn't expect our politicians to go through with this threat.
I know it wasn't in use, but getting gas from there would've been cheaper for us, right? And we could get more. As far as I know our gas tanks aren't looking that good right now.Nord Stream 2 wasn’t even in use so there is no loss for Russia or Germany besides the planning and construction costs. Well, maybe our former government wouldn't have. Either way, I am glad they did.Sadly we're dependent on gas for heating. And this isn't that bad of an idea on paper. Even the US, who wanted us to stop with this, imports gas from Russia.

True, but I think the issue could've been avoided had we started looking into stuff like heat pumps that could potentially lower our dependency on such imports much earlier. Unfortunately, German energy politics were a mess for the last... two to three decades at this point and I hope this will make policymakers reconsider on the whole - ideally in favour of renewables, if you were to ask me.Sadly we're dependent on gas for heating. Oh, neither am I. Eventually we'll all have to come to terms with it, seeing as how even if by some miracle we can recapture CO2 eventually natural gas and crude oil resources will be exhausted.I wouldn't want to be the one who has to try and get the financing through for retrofitting 80m people's worth of housing from gas heating to electrical though, oof
I love it how germany sold Turkey the Tanks and artellery to bomb kurdish civilians in syria and turkey and no one on german twitter said a word. But it seems like they all lose their godamn minds when it comes to ukraine. It seems like the kurds arent white enough to get the germans attention.
It surely couldn't be anything to do with the meeting bring set up on the proviso of Russia not invading Ukraine, and Russia undermining this by invading Ukraine.https://www.cnn.com/2022/02/22/politics/blinken-cancels-lavrov-meeting/index.html
Seems like exactly the sort of thing you wouldn’t want to do if you are trying to avoid war
Honest Question. Do you understand this people from the socialism thread? It surely couldn't be anything to do with the meeting bring set up on the proviso of Russia not invading Ukraine, and Russia undermining this by invading Ukraine.
No, it must be the US trying to pivot towards the war they don't have the stationed troops in the area for.

to be fair the US sanctioned Russia after that stuff, which according to the best foreign policy experts should have stopped further aggression.Everyone underestimating the lengths Putin is willing to go to after he has showed time and again that he gives zero fucks has worked out splendidly, has it not.
Nobody gave a shit about Abkhazia and South Ossetia in 2008. Nobody gave a shit about Crimea in 2014. And now everyone is acting surprised that Putin is at it again, after his previous actions have cost him oh so dearly.
You know, maybe if the world at large hit Putin where it truly mattered, things would be different.to be fair the US sanctioned Russia after that stuff, which according to the best foreign policy experts should have stopped further aggression.
People already explained to you why you were wrong in that thread. You stuck your fingers in your ears and didn't want to hear about the consequences of punishing Russian citizens en masse. This is basic empathy, and across both threads you have failed to demonstrate even the slightest bit of it.Honest Question. Do you understand this people from the socialism thread?
I absolutely don't understand their mantras. I have absolutely no clou, what even there goal is or what this behaviour has to do with socialism. I genuinly asked. But they already told me i should go away and that they don't want to be disturbed in their bubble.
It's absolutely crystal clear, that Putin triggers a war for nationalistic- imperialism reasons. Putin going full fascist and need to be stopped. But all that's coming back in this thread is the shouting of ...but the US, but the US, but the US...
To me, it has the same vibes as to speak to a Q- Trump- Cultist or a Corona-Denier. I absolutely don't understand their objective or way of thinking. No i dont say they are Trump supporters or , just that my confusion in trying to understand them, is the same.
As many as 576,000 Iraqi children may have died since the end of the Persian Gulf war because of economic sanctions imposed by the Security Council, according to two scientists who surveyed the country for the Food and Agriculture Organization.
I sympathise, but that nonsense is best kept out of this thread: Best to speak to the mods if you have any specific concerns.Honest Question. Do you understand this people from the socialism thread?

When the US and the rest of the west go around playing cowboy doing whatever the fuck we want heedless of the consequences, atrocities happen and it is a constant and consistent pattern across the history of the last 100 years.
Do you think they will work?Or, to put it another way; Russia has already caused misery for thousands by invading Ukraine. It will cause the deaths of thousands if it continues. Sanctions are a response to those deaths, they are not a cause thereof.
