Discussion Xenoblade Chronicles 3 announced, launches September 2022 (no open spoilers)

It's definitely Noah's red sword. The problem to overcome is, the 'magic' comes from
the conduit, it's the power source, and that's disappeared somewhere.
so in order for it's potential to be awakened, contact must be re-established.

The world...... Has a need for 'gods'.
It's possible that Noah's sword design is nothing more than an homage this time around and the "Xenoblade" in this story is literally just the sword of the Mechonis.

That is definitely a plausibility right now.

But...
The conduit went somewhere.

It's been sitting for who knows how long (could have easily been a temporal as well as a transdimensional displacement that made the conduit go poof).

Just like what happens every time one of these pesky things land somewhere, civilization goes into a turbo overdrive., including advanced in technology.

it is extremely likely beings from some other universe that the conduit went to are now the wielders of their own godlike technology powered by it, and they're tracing it back to where it came from.

It Is going to require Monado levels of power just to meet this true threat, a threat powered by the same power source that the Monado was.

My trope senses suspect Noah's shiny red blade thought by everyone to just be a new very powerful model of Monado replica technology.... Is actually much more.

I've been watching some reaction videos and I have to say, if you didn't instantly recognize the Uraya titan and the Mechonis Sword, then you're not a true fan! You need to go back and play all 200+ hours of the previous two games.
I must say I had a hard time recognizing the titan with the open mouth. Its shape in the shot looks like a dragon, while in Xeno 2 it is like a whale with spikes. The sword was more obvious.

I did recognize it was Xenoblade only with the first shot of the trailer, though.

No, it's gotta be Mio. Silver hair, it's the rule.

Nah, guys this world is xB1 and 2 combined.

Which means there now has to be 2 freindzoned characters.

So MiO and Eunice are going to be in an unrequited love triangle with Noah, who, with very little deliberation, and great confidence and affection, ships with himself. A moment crowned by the epic and moving narcissistic love song 'I am so beautiful, to me.'

In this trailer: a strange world which seems to be made up of elements from at least two distinct universes, with inhabitants who are stuck in a cycle of hostility where seemingly neither has a claim to being the world’s natives.

Is this Mira?

This has been my suspicion so far, too...

I really think that there's a decent chance that Xenoblade Chronicles 3 ends up tying in to Xenoblade Chronicles X and explaining the origins of Mira, which will then put MonolithSoft in an ideal position to release a Switch port of XCX after XC3, perhaps leading to a (VERY MUCH NEEDED) XCX2 after that...

While Xenoblade 3 might be the end of this first arc, Xenoblade 4 could still continue the story from there. Like, Xenogears episode V would be completely detached from stuff happening in Xenogears episode I too purely because of the crazy long timeline, while still being part of the same overarching narrative.

Is there a good shot of the new blade from the protagonist?
In the character art the blade is behind him, I am very curios to see it full

Looks like Imran confirms that Xenoblade 3 will be the end of the Xenoblade 1-3 arc instead of the conclusion of the entire series. There will likely be more Xenoblade games as I suspected.

New game with ‘Xeno’ prefix incoming

My only real complaint with the trailer is that it doesn't have an endlessly re-listenable song. Don't get me the wrong. The flute tune is very nice but it's not like the songs in the X or 2 reveal trailers.

I felt the same way, though I can see why they focused on the main theme this time around since it's integrated into the story (possibly gameplay)

Takahashi said not that long ago they want to grow the Xenoblade brand so it’s unlikely they'll drop the name.
Xenoblade is loosely defined enough as is (especially with X's existence) that they can probably get away with using it on any game that features huge explorable environments and some degree of sci-fi.

Yeah, I think at this point they could brand any style of rpg as a Xenoblade game so long as it has the worldbuilding and exploration characteristic of Xenoblade. I don't think they'll be limited creatively by the Xenoblade franchise; in fact the financial stability it brings will probably make them willing to take more risks.

The main theme sounds way better than 2 or X already. The dialogue spam in the main section of the trailer is the only blemish here in my opinion.

I like this kind of optimism.

Hopefully XCX gets the definitive edition treatment. And personally, I think they should call the sequel Xenoblade Chronicles Y.

Joking or not, that would be redundant lol. They will still make Xenoblade until Nintendo decides to sell off Monolith Soft.
I know it’s redundant in that they can just continue to use the current name. But it’d actually be my preference for them to replace the ‘-blade Chronicles’ suffix if they’re going to start building up a new world/story arc. It’s just sounds more fun.

I doubt it’ll have any impact whatsoever on the sales of the game, as Nintendo will once again give it first class marketing, and the core audience isn’t going to miss a beat in the transition.

I don’t doubt it. I do think the franchise name is a bit of a mouthful tho

When do you think we'll get a new trailer ? The next Nintendo direct being in June, I'm sure we'll have something before, especially if the next direct features game like BOTW2, Bayonetta 3 and other surprises.

And they have to announce the collector's edition too.
I imagine the next trailer will be during E3, or the E3 time if it happens this year, as Nintendo tends to have June Directs (2020 being the exception obviously, as the pandemic had recently begun).
I'm happy they seem to have gotten rid of the blade system. It wasn't a bad system, but I hated the grind to get them.

Do we have any names on the new characters yet?
Do we have a confirmation the blade system is gone? I was thinking it was too, as in the trailers everyone is walking/running independently and not synced with their driver/blade like in Xeno 2.

I blame the localizers for making the title longer for no reason

This is a personal thing but I almost never use the full thing, I just say Xenoblade and it's not like anybody's ever going to misunderstand me. Nobody I know IRL uses the full title either since I'm not from an English speaking country and the word chronicles is awkward to pronounce for people here

Not sure, but as long as it’s entirely optional like in X2 it should be no biggie. Unless you’re a completionist like me and need to have them all even if you didn’t use them lol but yeah, you can do the whole main game with just the story baldes.

To all you Xeno people out there who know a lot more about the series than me: is there any indication in the trailer’s dialogue and imagery to suggest if Xenoblade 1 or 2 is a bigger influence on this one? I think realistically I’ll only have time to replay one or the other before this bad boy is out, especially with all the other JRPG action happening this year!

(Apologies if this has been covered I haven’t been able to parse the whole thread just yet)

It's an assumption on my part, but, yeah, it does look like it's gone.

My brother got so many cooler blades than I did, I got jealous lol.

I think they will tie it into X at some point. I pretty much assume X either takes place in the distant future, post Earth or another dimension.
I don't think it will. Takahashi's statement practically unexists X. if it was gonna tie in, they'd make a bigger deal out of it. unless there's some critical story information that ties the two together, but I don't see how without some crazy anime nonsense (note this is by bias against crazy anime stories talking(

It's a mixture of both, both literally and figuratively.

Here's a statement from the director addressing your concerns:

We believe the game will be enjoyable for both those who’ve played Xenoblade Chronicles or Xenoblade Chronicles 2, as well as those who will be playing a Xenoblade Chronicles game for the first time.

That makes sense. This should be the end of Xenoblade for this story

Xenosaga was originally going to be 6 games. At this point I won't be surprised if Xenoblade X is actually Xenoblade 10.
Jesus this just blew my mind haha. That's the only way I could imagine it fitting in with XC 1, 2 and 3 - it's actually a distant future of the rebuilt earth from 2. Like, far, far more distant than the future depicted in 3.

Imagine if Takahashi snuck in the 10th entry already and we didn't even realize it.

I never have liked the 'Chronicles' part and I always just say Xenoblade. The 'Chronicles' add on just makes the title sound less bold, imo

Takahashi completely ignoring XCX actually only makes me think that it's even more likely that 3 will tie in to X. It'll be that much more surprising if attention isn't drawn to it, after all. Much like how he assured people that Xenoblade Chronicles 2 was completely separate from the first Xenoblade Chronicles—yet that turned out to be a big lie. =P Also, with him saying that the concept for XC3's key art (and likely the core concepts of the game's story alongside it, I'd imagine) was decided sometime between when the development of the first Xenoblade Chronicles ended and the beginning of XC2's development...well, what else was he working on during that time? Xenoblade Chronicles X, of course. Hard to imagine that he'd have all these concepts thought up this far in advance and then just not factor XCX into anything at all. I feel like XCX has to be part of the bigger plan here in some way, and the mashed-up world we see in XC3 could end up explaining some of the more suspicious features of Mira's geography that seemed to hint at a connection to the first Xenoblade (like ruined geographical features that looks eerily similar to that of the Bionis and Mechonis, for example).

This implies there should be a Xenoblade 11 then with that ending

Imagine a third act, out-of-nowhere Hail Mary…

Elma showing up with a bunch of Skells in the party’s moment of need

Nothing to crazy, but that’s why I think set in the far future also can work. X needs to come back guns blazing to assert its dominance as the superior Xenoblade.

No joke: a Xenoblade Warriors is very likely imho (for 2023/24)
Can Koei make something else for Xenoblade please? I'm sick of (Insert Nintendo IP) Warriors all being reskins of same formula. Persona at least tried to change things up more than usual.

In the middle of Xenoblade 3, there's gonna be a big battle between the Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade 2 factions. It's Melia vs. Nia. Then suddenly, a dimensional rift opens up in the middle of the battle.

Punished Lynn steps through. "I need a bigger gun"

I think that Zelda too was partially different from the classic Musou formula

Persona Strikers and Age of Calamity were a good blend if genres/IPs , but also Hyrule Warriors had boss battles and item implementation

FE Warrirors wasnt, but was a good Warrior imho
Three Hopes will probably try a little bit more (maybe even just in terms of bosses/monsters/paths?)

A Xenoblade Warriros would probably be a classic Musou with bigger and more open areas? But man, they could go CRAZY with rhe storyline lol

Real talk, Xenoblade Chronicles X probably should've been called something else lol
@Comic Obsessed's suggestion of rebranding it Xenocross is already kinda growing on me, tbh. 😅

YES. Finally someone else who doesn't like or understand the addition of "Chronicles" to the title. "Xenoblade" just sounds so much cleaner without it.

Imagine if Takahashi snuck in the 10th entry already and we didn't even realize it.
When you finish Xenogears and the credits are done rolling you're treated to this:
epsxe_20160830_124417-png.60670
as Takahashi and Saga sorta kept adding more and more to the story in development until the actual game itself got pushed out into being Part 5 of its own story.
So as far as what you said, I honestly wouldn't but this past them. Seriously.

Yet Rex was the one who was all like:

Also to pile onto the XBX stuff... During the trailer I got really strong X vibes from some of the larger mecha enemies. I know Xeno games tend to share some aesthetics overall but.. just... something about this one gives me a feeling. I dunno. Even the terrain design (which someone noted is a bit more muted in color this time around) which gives it a bit less cartoonish look (closer to X) and the costume designs... it almost looks to me like they told the character designer from 2 to make X characters, if that makes sense.

Goddamn, yall. I'm gonna have to stay off the Xeno and Monolith boards once this comes out because if I start seeing screenshots of a Saito-redesigned Elma then I'm gonna trip.

I owned a Wii U from a month after it launched up until I sold it a few years ago. Never touched X and I'm sad that I didn't :(
