Just think how many Switches will sell in the next two years with the likes of BotW2, a new 3D Mario, a nonstop juggernaut with two years’ worth of new content in MK8, a gen 9 Pokémon game, and Switch Sports to support it. Holy smokes.

It would be kind of wild, the specifically 3D-rendered Super Mario RPG to be turned into pixels for the HD-2D aesthetic. I wouldn't necessarily put it past them, at least to try it, though.

I wonder what sort of negotiations would have to take place for a remake of that game, regardless of the final direction.

Almost kind of figure such talks might be the necessary step for anyone to decide they want to make an actual follow-up, or to get the approval needed.

Regardless, it did lead to Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi.
If they don't try to somehow find a way to HD-2Dify it, I could see them do something like what they did with Trials of Mana and actually make it a real 3D game. But then that sounds way more expensive to me, but I guess Nintendo would be paying for a lot, if not all of it, and would be providing existing Mario character models and assets, so... why not?

I think there is a sizable audience for this though. On Switch more than ever before. And it feels like there are less hurdles around these days than there were, well probably ever since the original SMRPG first released. lol

So yeah that waddle dee guy admitted to faking everything to show how easy it is. Respect.
People falling for those is the modern day mom/grandma giving her social to an “Amazon customer support agent” over the phone. Honestly if he owned up to it this fast and it teaches people a lesson ahead of the next direct I ain’t mad.

Y’all should be like me, an intelligent person, and spend $100 on a used copy of TPHD for Wii U
Does quick ebay search.....

HOLY CRAP
I actually really want TPHD for WiiU, because I already have WWHD and I just actually really prefer the WiiU gamepad. It feels like keeping that pair together would be right. But fuckin eBay sellers, man... 😵

I still don't understand the business case for an OLED Lite. The regular OLED model is an upgrade for primarily handheld users, what's the point of making the same thing but cheaper with less value?
People like the idea of having the nicer screen with the Lite’s nicer form factor

For the price of one (1) pizza per visit, you can come over to my place and play TPHD anytime. I'll even let you use my Wolf Link amiibo. 😊

Late 2024 would be A-OK with me. I know some people are worried the Switch is going to be "left behind" by the PS5 and Series X but I've never understood in what sense. The companies that support the Switch now will continue into 2024.

Sure I can see the appeal from the consumer's perspective. I'm trying to figure out the business appeal.
I've always viewed the Switch OLED as a premium Lite with docking capability.
Exactly. A way to upsell Lite owners to get more $$$ out of them. An OLED Lite defeats that purpose by lowering the entry price.

I appreciate that but I don't think you'd like how much jelly would be on that pizza.

I am thankful that there isn't a whole lot on the PS5 and Xbox Series that really interest me coming out in the near feature. Horizon Forbidden West looks nice but I haven't gotten very far in the first one. Same with God of War. There's Final Fantasy 16 and who knows when that will come out. The Microsoft stuff like Perfect Dark and Fable I'm interested in are seemingly years away. So there's no rush for me to a new console and the amount of games that interest me on PS4 is drying up. There's Destiny 2: The Witch Queen and...that's really it. So it might be 95% Switch stuff and older games for my purchases this year.

I think the main case would be to just have something new to put into stores. Hardware revisions, even very minor ones, can boost interest up or help maintain a system's current popularity. That's really the main version why we see Lite or Pro versions of systems. They have less to do actually enhancing the games. Their primary goal is just to have something new-ish at retail.

They wouldn't make a model that ruins the purpose of another one of their models just to get a new model onto store shelves. There are plenty of other revisions or special editions they could do.

Oh, I agree. There probably is a sizeable audience for it, or at least sizeable enough.

The 3D game does seem it could be expensive to make, but is more in keeping with the idea of the original. You make a good point, though, that Nintendo is likely, in such a case, to provide existing models so the game better matches the brand aesthetic, rather than allow the game to explore what the models might look like as based on the original game.

And it's possible they try to pull it into their 2D-HD craze, despite the dissonance with the original iteration. That seems a bit less likely to me, though, since it evokes less the game it once was and there are a lot of other projects waiting in line for the 2D-HD treatment.

I kind of think there could be something of a middle ground, though, where the models and all are updated (but preferably not made into generic Mario) to look nice with our modern technology and sensibilities, but the game retains something of its visual identity. I'm not sure entirely how that should work, but the idea seems to make sense.

I guess it depends on their ambition and how much work they want to put into it, or how much they prefer to keep it closer to its original form (your proposed 2D-HD iteration might even remain closer to the original than that all-out 3D remake in everything but visuals).

Regardless, a Mario RPG in that style, even if not Legend of the Seven Stars, could totally work, and I would be interested to see it.

For instance, the Xenoblade 3 Special Edition Nintendo Switch, compete with detachable and functional flute.

also I would like to tap your collective brains for a sec

I have the foggiest memory of a game I played in the 90s on what was most likely MacOS 9 (though possibly Windows 95 instead… or even DOS because I am dust)

it was vector graphics, all lines on black, in a 3D space like the old Atari “Battle Zone” game… but more colorful?

and if I remember right there were ramps you could go up in the space and collect things in your little not-right line tank

but most distinctly I remember triangular prisms trying to destroy you, kinda like the end credits shooter in Smultimate Brothertimate

does this exist or are my deepest core memories planted by something not familiar with the specifics of our world?
I remember that game! Is it Spectre?

I remember playing it along with some other game that involved... connecting lines in a sort of grid, or something? I swear they came on the same CD or came with our old Mac or something like that

Switch Lite OLED seems counter-productive? I thought the idea behind the Lite was to encourage a one-per-user buying pattern over a one-per-household buying pattern by getting the price as low as possible. Adding in a premium screen is going to either increase price or decrease profit margins. Why bother?

damn I remember this. Used to play it on a Mac, though

I wonder if that’s Jenna Coleman for Xenoblade 3

Nia’s voice actress seems to be in Xenoblade 3, that one I can make out. But I could be wrong.
Considering we first found out about the game through her leaking it I'd say it's probably her. She did come back for Future Connected after all so it makes sense she'd also be back for this

Oh Lord forgive me

I bought my Lite because it was cheaper and i had no TV here at the time. Last year i bought a Series S and a new monitor, then i began to think about upgrading to a Swoled, but i gave up on the idea. My Lite still works perfectly fine, there's no need for me to buy a new Switch, unless a true successor is released

I’ve got a near launch Regular Switch and even though my touch screen doesn’t work and I’ve had to replace the fan myself: I’m not buying another Switch unless this one gives up entirely or they make one with actually genuine performance improvements.

Or a Yakuza themed console. Whatever comes first.

Alright. I gotta be real.

I’m glad Mario Strikers is back. But some probably don’t remember or are just interested in the title for the first time, that the first 2 titles were not content rich. In fact, the original GameCube game was absolutely barebones at the level of Mario Tennis on Wii U. And that’s not a joke, plus the only unlockable character tanks the framerate where the game is unplayable on certain stages. And it’s not even a Mario character. It’s a robot that is as generic as you get.

I’m sure some have gotten burn on Camelot’s switch games but those Two at launch had more content then the Wii Strikers game as well.

Just saying. Even if it’s Next Level Games, don’t go in expecting a content rich game. Or more content then the Camelot games on switch.

This is what’s keeping my hype levels in check about Strikers. It just doesn’t seem like it’ll have all that much to do single-player wise. Multiplayer will be where it’s at, but speaking as someone who rarely plays games online and even more rarely plays local multiplayer, I might have to hold off on Strikers just like I have with Mario Party.

I'm sitting here drinking a spinach and kale smoothie. Does anyone have any trash takes to entire me with? Like, really terrible takes. The worst takes you can throw at me. For example, I recently said that I prefer Earthbound Beginnings to Earthbound. I want that level of trash takes.

Okami is a subpar Zelda game.
