You didn't consider Nagoshi convincing NetEase to buy Nintendo to prevent Yakuza games from appearing on the Switch. Rookie mistake.
DAMMIT

This seems weirdly aggressive. That was also a generational jump to a new library which I said I was more comfortable with in terms of buying hardware. In that instance, I also did what I said I'd do here and held off on playing the game until I was ready to get the newer hardware rather than drag out the WiiU again.

Literally all I was saying was that my personal choices in terms of purchasing games and hardware means I'll probably hold off on something like BOTW2 if playing it on current hardware means I'm not getting it as intended. Let me go back to lurking, jesus.
Sorry you're right, that was aggressive. Didn't mean for it to come off that way. Text, am I right? But I'm just saying there's significant precedence for this exact scenario. I should also say: I don't think the base Switch version will be like, unplayably broken or anything. You'd probably be fine to pick it up for a base Switch, and then when/if you ever DO get the new console, you'll be able to play it there too. Honestly I think this would come off more user-friendly and "pro-consumer" than their usual stance which is "oh you bought BOTW for Wii U and want to play it on Switch? Give us sixty more dollars please" which is exactly what happened to me and yes I DID fork over that cash money

Make sure you give your significant other a mouthful this Valentine's Day.

Yes, this is an official Nintendo Valentine's Day Card

CoD Mobile on Switch?
That one is always online game, it wouldn't be a good fit on Switch.

My guess for CoD Switch is Modern Warfare Remastered Trilogy with Online. Not only online, I expect split screen and wireless multiplayer modes to be in.

Honestly, you're 100% right. The Twilight Princess example is a good one, but it's not the same thing - as you point out it's a generational jump, not a reiteration.

Anyone that bought an OLED would be severely annoyed if BotW2 performs better on another Switch revision launched then - and in limited supply. Whether that hampers sales... debatable. Whether the negativity makes any impact at all in fact... debatable.

Still, not convinced Nintendo would do it.

(Don't be a lurker! We need differing opinions else this place becomes an echo chamber - which is hugely ironic since Nintendo are not even remotely predictable!)

The posts in @Magic-Man's thread are helping me to feel like I don't spend too much time gaming after all.

Xenoblade 2 and Breath of the Wild are my most played Switch games at around 120ish hours each and I'm always surprised people say they put over 200 hours into each. There was a thread on Era a while back asking how many games people buy a month. I wanna say close to a majority of people said they bought multiple full $60. For me, 1 a month is a ton and definitely not the norm.

Yeah I just saw that, must have been like zero stock for Switch in January. That's crazy.
we need more than 1 month to know if its stock issue or saturation
for me its leaning towards stock issue for OLED

and I am predicting that a pro SKU will release late 2022
Oh it's absolutely stock issues. I checked a couple times in January and it's not just OLED models that were sold out, it was everything. Even some Lite models.
Anecdotally, I was looking for a Switch .this past January and found not a single one.

I had considered seeing where rumblings were in a month or two regarding an iteration, but figure I probably won't be able to find one whenever something of that sort does release.

I always look at people's activity logs and think "how the hell do you people have all this time?" And I have a decent amount of gaming time these days lol.

I just chalk it up to I play a lot of different games overall.

People who work on cute and family friend media are often dirty people. Your favorite childhood games and cartoons are filled with innuendos. Go look at some of the Nickelodeon stuff from the 90s and you'll see what they were able to get away with. Rocko works for a sex hotline. They are obvious but you don't realize it as a kid. This is a character from Banjo Kazooie

Very subtle there. The Kirby creators definitely know what they are doing with Mouthful Mode.

Well, I usually do not sell consoles BUT I was able to sell my Switch for almost 300 bucks, which I put towards the OLED. But I am also of the mind that the OLED is a stopgap because supply chain issues and rising costs have pushed back the date for Nintendo to have a successor. And I think most of us who are into gaming know this.

So I bought the OLED fully expecting a Switch 2 or hell, a Pro or whatever they call it may release a year later. I came to terms with it. But I wanted a bigger screen, white joycons, and the OLED.

Who knows. I may keep my Switch OLED after Switch 2 even if fully backwards compatible, because hey, older games that do not get boosts with the new hardware, may as well save the storage space and keep them where they are lol

wow, not entirely related but SSDs just took a huge fucking hit

6.5 exabytes of flash storage lost due to unspecified contamination at a manufacturer

prices likely to skyrocket, at least for a little bit

Maybe no new characters yet (are there so many from previous MK games that didn't show up here? Kamek, Funky Kong, Queen Bee, and Wiggler, but that's all I can think of), but possibly the costumes from Tour will show up as options for characters that don't have alternate colour schemes? Waluigi in that red/white plaid getup with a flatcap would make me switch mains from Dry Bowser to him

fuck, I really hope Grubb is wrong on this one.

Pikmin (sort of counts) and Mario baseball next please

I've been told to give up on the dream of Custom Robo and yet I still want to hold on hope for even as much as a little GC emulation so badly šŸ™ƒ

For my fellow car weebs:

Man i dunno, i don't think they can coast on the current versions for more than the next upcoming FY. At one point you gotta accept that even your internal studios start to struggle too much and need better tools and performance to work with.
@Raccoon said it best; Switch needed a pro once Animal Crossing came out at 30fps with framedrops once the outside gets modestly crowded with furniture and items.

I do wonder if Nintendo has considered/would consider making a Dock that has the equivalent to one of those "M-Cable" things built in that softens some of the jagged edges?
Would be pretty cool if it could be implemented at a firmware level. One thing that does hold me back from getting it to use with a 4KTV to cut down on jaggies is that it appears you have to keep flipping the Switch between 720p and 1080p output depending on the game you play to maximize the effect the mClassic can have

Switch needed a Pro once BOTW came out and Kakariko Village was a framerate goblin toilet

Once the Pro is out we'll just find a new unrealistic performance target for a hybrid device to hit and I personally can't wait for it.

Apparently the Kingdom Hearts cloud ports are a shitshow. What a surprise. The only good cloud port I've seen was Control, so Remedy must be wizards or something.

It's hilarious how Hello Games (No Mans Sky) and Techland (Dying Light) both ported super intense last gen games to the Switch, but Square Enix can't port two gen old games without having trouble.

Yep. You don't fabricate reports from 11 different sources.

Either it's coming within ~14 months or it was cancelled. But I have no doubt that 4k devkits existed.
Chip shortage is going to be the deciding factor in a 4K Switch. Why make a new SKU if you can't even make more than 10 million of them a year? Even now when you can't keep up with the regular Switch's demand.

Because Nintendo didn't pay up. Square will only put effort into porting games to other systems as long as the platform holders pay them.

Just came in this thread to talk about this.

Bought the third game and yup it IS a shitshow. It's not an Ubitus game like other Switch Cloud games, it's from Square's own cloud service. Good thing is it's not region locked, you can use everywhere in the world. Bad news is everything else. I get the lower resolution but why the f this game has framerate drops? Where are they running this on, a 10 year old potato PC?

App is also broken, crashes way too often. They released update along with the game, still crashes after the update. This is NOT acceptable. Nintendo/Square need to refund the money and delist these garbage as they'll never improve in any way.

Honestly the fact that cloud ports can still be really bad ports is, I don't know, a bit insulting (not 'seriously', of course). You'd hope that buying a game with the massive downside that is 'the cloud' would at least give you a version of the game that's as good as the best version out there - but in most cases it seems that you're getting a blurry, unoptimised port anyways.

Because that's not how these production orders work.

The Switches they're manufacturing now are part of contracts from a number of different suppliers that were probably inked back in 2018 or 2019. The manufacturers and suppliers need to do their best to keep their end of those contracts, or else they'll pay a penalty.

For a new 4k Switch they will have completely different contracts, also signed years ago, some with the same suppliers and some with different suppliers. Those suppliers again will have to do their best to meet the terms of the contract, or else pay a penalty.

One contract doesn't necessarily affect the other, especially if the contract for the SoC has gone to Samsung as rumored, and not TSMC. The amount of Switches they are now producing isn't necessarily indicative of how many new 4k Switches they could produce.

That's not to say it'll definitely happen, but the chip shortage isn't really a reason for it not to happen.

Are you playing in docked mode? Apparently it can't even load.

It's on Switch Lite.

But seriously with every cloud game on Switch, it gets worse. Now we're having framerate problems in these games. If they ported KH3 natively, it'd have much less than this.
Oh so you're actually playing the better version then. Docked mode is supposedly broken.

Switch Lite Home Edition. It's a tiny box like a Roku stick and it comes bundled with one (right side) joycon.

I like to think this is how it went down:

Square Enix: "OK Nintendo, you can have Sora for Smash. Would you like Kingdom Hearts games as well?"
Nintendo: "if you want to put 'em out, go ahead"
Square Enix: "Well uh... you wanna help us pay for them?"
Nintendo: "No, not particularly."
Square Enix: "hmm. I guess we'll half ass some cloud ports."
Nintendo: "whatever, we do not care about your silly mickey mouse anime game."

Square Enix: "So we're also working on a HD2D Live-A-Live remake..."
Nintendo: "OK NOW WE'RE TALKING. Want a Direct spotlight? It's yours. This is awesome. You have our full support."
