Never owned a Wii U but I always thought the gamepad was a fun way to bring "dual screen" gaming to a home console setup. I was actually kinda hoping Nintendo would release a gamepad controller for Switch that would let you play the Wii U games that needed it.

people like it though

some genuinely do

granted of course we now have years of Switch to balance the perception against, but it’s a bubbly relic full of odd charm

fucked up little Mii town square coupled with bubbly icons that make you want to pop them? yeah, that’s effective

skeumorphism got gauche in years of stagnation, and I don’t want it to come back, but we’ve had enough flat future to merit a pendulum swing in perception
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t have anything against the look and feel. But it is abysmally slow. Like NSO and eShop slow on the Switch.

Everything else? Bring that back please Nintendo. Or at least as an option for when I don’t feel completely minimalist.

"Taro even admitted: "I thank you for praising NieR: Automata's story, but actually it's pretty much just a retelling of Evangelion, so there's not much originality to it. I don't really watch recent movies, so I'm mostly inspired by memories of works I saw in the past.""

Taro telling people to shut up and watch Evangelion, this man can't possibly be more based

Was it really slow? I believe you; I genuinely don't remember. Is it slow by today's standards or slow by standards of the time? Maybe it's because I never played it too much but I don't remember being frustrated with the OS for that reason.

The WiiU's interface was painfully slow compared to that of the Wii. I hated using it at the time and even moreso now.

Not sure about at the time. The lack of a suspend option definitely hurt it. But by today’s standard, taking 2-4 minutes from a cold boot to launch Super Mario Maker from disc is rough.

Agreed; there has to be a middle ground that can offer some bells and whistles, a little spark of whimsy, some defining personality, that also won't cause the entire system to slow to a crawl.

Slow by any standard. It didn't frustrate me too much either, but it was noticeable all the same.

I forget who posted this same video elsewhere on this site, but Nintendo was so proud of a system update that reduced the wait time from 22 seconds down to 8 seconds to exit a game going to the home menu that they made a YouTube video demonstrating the load time differences.

From abysmal, to just bad. If I had my Wii U plugged in I wish I could run a timer on how long it takes to boot up from a cold start, because that I'm pretty sure never changed no matter how many system updates there were.

I am not old enough to remember the 90's and I can confirm I've never heard chronic as a name for weed.

I also was playing the Wii U today and something about that gamepad controller is so damn mushy and imprecise. When I play the same game on Wii U vs Switch, it feels like the character is wearing training weights on Wii U.

Think I'm going to try and beat every handheld Zelda I haven't completed yet. That list includes:

-Oracle of Seasons
-Oracle of Ages
-Phantom Hourglass
-Spirit Tracks
-Tri Force Heroes

I actually played and enjoyed most of these (yes, even Phantom Hourglass) but like many handheld games I played over my many years, I get distracted by something else and then never return to them. I'm about halfway through Seasons on Switch so I'll probably try to wrap that up first.

That does sound slow! I'm blessed to have not touched a Wii U since I sold mine in 2017.

My grandpa would buy a globe whenever one of his grandchildren were born so they could remember what the world looked like the year they were born. My globe had these weird countries like the USSR, East Germany, West Germany, and Yugoslavia. Which is funny because by the time I was old enough to start having memories, all but one of those had stopped existing and the last one was in the middle of imploding.

my mother and my brother played it sometimes! Dull game but not as much of a trash fire as people make it out to be. Cute, but ultimately pointless with a cumbersome amiibo feature
I honestly wonder if that and the plaza app were the result of them salvaging assets from a Wii U AC game that was way behind and eventually became New Horizons.

america i am begging u

My coworkers are sick of me talking about how cool trains are in movies. I can't help myself.

I still can't believe they used the Amiibos to create a society of haves and have nots. That said, the only game of Amiibo Festival I played was won by a non-Amiibo user.

all I know is both of those announcementd were very mean for a kid looking forward to animal crossing u

At 60 km/h, that's a face that's roughly 12 1/2 miles in length, not accounting for the topography of the nose

Why the long face?
This right here is a Good Post.™

☝️ Me watching the Indie World tomorrow

I'm old enough to remember the 90s and I can confirm my back hurts
I'm old enough to remember the 80s and I can confirm my back is fine and my knees are fine and my hips are fine but for the love of god my mind and emotions

Time to have train gun fights in John Wick 4. No, I don't mean gun fights on a train. I mean John Wick driving the train while shooting at people on other trains.
i have bad news about how many John Wicks are already out

maybe next time!

I haven't posted here in a few days, but I have another job interview today. I'm about as nervous as I was the first one (which I'm still waiting to hear back from), but I'm still ready.

Wish me luck!

Game and Wario?! Nintendo Land?! Goated?! I think I just broke a hip reading this message!
These are two of the greatest games on the system, though. In fact, I’d go as far to say that those two examples offer more fun casual multiplayer experiences than pretty much anything on Nintendo Switch, except for maybe Everybody 1-2-Switch!

I’ve beaten Phantom Hourglass but not the rest. I definitely need to at least knock out the Oracle duology at some point. Those are probably the most significant Zelda games I haven’t beaten… those and Zelda 2, I suppose.

Forgot to talk about this yesterday, but after I did my workout (after skipping my routine for over a week......) I decided to add jogging to my routine. I attempted to jog for 2 blocks and......... I gave up halfway 💀. Jogging for 2 blocks was a little ambitious for me, so I think I'll stick to 1 block for the time being. 😅

When seeing my opinions always remind yourself that: 1) They are uniformly bad and 2) I had no friends.

My only experience with either game was at a private showing of the Wii U prior to its release. I thought Nintendoland was "neat" and Game & Wario was "a weird thing to make". I played them with Nintendo PR representatives who made sure I understood they were not my friends.

Great job! Jogging is so hard. I'd recommend either of these books if you're interested:

Just finished the interview. It's for a part time bouncer job and I'll be notified within 48 hours; I'm a lot more confident about this one.
I immediately thought "you STRIKE UNRULY PATRON in the name of JOB"
