From "My own sources can't corroborate to the delay" to "multiple thirds now definitely time me suddenly", huh?

I don't believe this anymore.
Maybe people see the story and come forward? I know that happens sometimes.

I'm still not 100% on the bandwagon for this though. I was still considering a June launch a possibility before today.

What's most puzzling about this and I'm seeing no discussion about is why would they delay it to Q1 in the first place? Switch was delayed from a holiday 2016 launch because, as far as we know, the games weren't ready. Is the first year lineup once again just not ready? Something else going on?

I mean there's also a chance that they want to have enough stock at launch, or to give publishers more time to get their games on the Switch 2.

It could also be a very-specific game that had a release date pushed, like the next 3D Mario or Mario Kart entry.

What?

The 3DS' disappointing financial performance was caused by

1. Apple simply taking most of Nintendo's casual audience from the DS.
2. The 3DS was more expensive to manufacture than optimal because of the 3D screen and consumers didn't care about 3D.
3. The 3DS struggled to get western third-party games due to various factors
4. The 3DS' launch lineup was horrible
5. Nintendo didn't have enough developers to consistently make new big games for the 3DS (as they had to make WiiU games as well and the WiiU games were usually Nintendo's main focus)

The 3DS reveal scheduling was fine.
1. This doesn't matter since the 3DS was aimed more at core gamers than the casuals. This argument was also disproven with the Switch success.

2. This isn't true at all. Iwata admitted that the 3DS was priced at $250 out of hubris due to the positive reception at E3. And again core gamers cared about the 3D while casuals were afraid of catching eye cancer.

3. One of those factors was the horrible first year. Due to the poor hardware and software sales a lot of games got cancelled.

4. True, but this had to due with an earthquake and Nintendo trusting third parties to carry a console launch without any major Nintendo franchises present since third parties believe Nintendo's games cannibalize their sales.

5. I highly doubt the Wii U was the main focus. The available software for the system more or less disproves this.

Answer me this:

If Nintendo was so short stocked/panicked on software and had to delay everything to accommodate, then why didn't they hold onto Super Mario Wonder? Switch didn't need Wonder last year with TotK, Fire Emblem Engage, Pikmin 4, SMRPG, Pokemon, Xenoblade Future Redeemed, Mario Kart DLC, Advance Wars, etc? Could have used that for Switch 2 as a cross-platform game if they're so desperate.

Or better yet, why are they clumping/releasing most of their first party lineup in the first 3 months of 2024 when software is already anemic? Another Code, Mario VS Donkey Kong, Princess Peach Showtime, Splatoon 3 Side Order. Then to have to resort to a partner direct when there's only 2 remasters left on your plate, no original games for the rest of 2024 and with no release dates on said games, sounds ingenious.

It doesn't make sense, I don't buy these rumors.
It really doesn't make any sense. They don't have games for rest of the year and if they wanted something to announce they would make a usual General Direct.

This is the only thing I can think of as well. 3D Mario was not ready yet.

But the game has been in development for like 7 years... super hard to believe.

The above + they state they will still be revealing this thing a whole year in advance.... this makes no sense at all lol.

I'm guessing that we get those "back pocket" games coming this year then if this bears out. Wind Waker/Twilight Princess, FE4 Remake, Prime 2/3. Maybe some of the rumored games like F-Zero GX remaster or Bandai's 3D action remake (Kid Icarus? Although I would prefer that for new hardware). Sucks.

If this is how we get Wind Waker / Twilight Princess HD then so be it.

I definitely would have loved WW/TP "4K" though...

I don't know how to feel about this.

I can wait for a Switch 2, i'm not gasping for new hardware like some people are but the lack of clarity on new Nintendo titles this year has me worried. I know it's not unusual to not know much about Nintendo's lineup at this point in the year but with the added context of new hardware incoming it adds a bit of anxiety.

If the OG Switch gets a decent amount of mid to small games this year i'll be happy but if not, I can't lie and say I won't be a little frustrated.

it must have been a last minute delay, literally the last couple of weeks then. wonder if it leaks then, would be nice.

If it's a factory delay, then I'm sure the reveal will be delayed as well.

If it's a software launch delay, then I'm sure the reveal will hold steadfast for a March reveal if production is planned to start after the lunar new year.

Nintendo in 2023: Tanabe, is Prime 4 finally going to be ready to go in the launch window? We can launch Q4 2024, right?

Tanabe in 2023: Oh yeah, it's looking good.

6 months later

Tanabe in 2024: I need another 3-6 months and more money

Nintendo in 2024: I fucking hate you, this game has been in development for 30 years, what the fuck.

Honestly, potentially launching near/against GTA VI or other major software launching in 2025 with a Ps5 pro vs launching in 2024 where we know there’s no major software/hardware launching in an economic downturn with less disposable income is a risk but if it isnt ready, it isnt ready - I think launching with no first party games like Xbox Series X would be a disaster - but yeah 2024 being a dead year for Sony and Nintendo would definitely be rough

can they tell factories to pump the breaks for a bit or is this something that's already set in stone and they will have all their shit leak

From a business standpoint, I am shocked, horrified, and befuddled at March 2025. What happened? What's going on? Has Nintendo forsaken us? Have they forsaken themselves?

From a consumer standpoint, I have two dozen Switch games in my backlog that I haven't played/beaten because I like Splatoon too much, so IDGAF when the successor comes out, I don't have a horse in this race.

That's exactly what it is

If I'm someone who's in a semi risky position and knows Switch 2 is delayed, I might not be willing to confirm that with VGC or Eurogamer since I dunno how widely available that info is. I might even go so far as to deny it or play dumb if they came to me last week having heard the rumor.

Now that someone has reported on it, I'm much more comfortable saying "yeah we're working with the knowledge it's q1 2025 as well".

How in the hell did the rumors go from March reveal to at least six months later? They delayed this thing at the last possible minute?

God, this year is fucking shit. Pandemic level output all over again, christ

From my understanding, productions are "scheduled" so unless the delay comes from the factory itself because it's overbooked or behind on production, I don't think Nintendo can just say "nah hold off for a month please"

That's why if the production was planned for right after factories get back up and running after lunar new year, a march reveal is almost necessary to get ahead of leaks.

Here's what Eurogamer and VGC were saying back in 2021. Very likely they're totally wrong again this time.

I'm glad to see Nintendo fumble, the Switch period has been simply too good to be true and it's been harder for me to believe they actually are the dumb company I fell in love with

It’s definitely premature to say 2025 is a done deal, imo

But if it’s causing you anxiety go watch some Godzilla movies and chill out

It just seems like a recipe for disaster from a sales perspective. Reveal Switch 2 one full year (or nearly) ahead of release in enough detail to control the narrative about hardware, then they have to strike a balance between giving info about the Switch 2 (because everyone will be asking for more and more and more information) and trying to refocus the public's attention on a thin spread of Switch 1 games that were never meant to carry the year.

Edit - Unlike the Wii U, which they had left to die in 2016, Switch would stand alone this holiday (no other console to make sales up, like the 3DS did for them). Messaging is going to be hell for them between promoting a Spring launch and promoting Switch 1 sales in the holiday time).

Maybe I get more time to work on my backlog this year rather than adding to it

"According to VGC who heard it from Eurogamer who heard it from Brazil"

We got three sources now confirming. It's over folks! floodgates have opened!

why are u acting like the 3ds was a wii u tier failure
Selling less than half of the DS was a failure. Just like how most people would say the PS3 was a failure with how much it sold much less than the PS2.

A situation where the Switch 2 sells less than half the amount that the Switch sells is going to be considered a failure by most people.

On the one hand, bummer.

On the other hand… *looks at backlog oh well, I have enough to play.
